Substructure in clusters containing wide-angle tailed radio galaxies. I. New redshifts
We present new redshifts and positions for 635 galaxies in nine rich clusters
containing Wide-Angle Tailed (WAT) radio galaxies. Combined with existing data,
we now have a sample of 18 WAT-containing clusters with more than 10 redshifts.
This sample contains a substantial portion of the WAT clusters in the VLA 20 cm
survey of Abell clusters, including 75% of WAT clusters in the complete survey
(z0.09. It is a representative sample
which should not contain biases other than selection by radio morphology. We
graphically present the new data using histograms and sky maps. A
semi-automated procedure is used to search for emission lines in the spectra in
order to add and verify galaxy redshifts. We find that the average apparent
fraction of emission line galaxies is about 9% in both the clusters and the
field. We investigate the magnitude completeness of our redshift surveys with
CCD data for a test case, Abell 690. This case indicates that our galaxy target
lists are deeper than the detection limit of a typical MX exposure, and they
are 82% complete down to R=19.0. The importance of the uniformity of the
placement of fibers on targets is posited, and we evaluate this in our
datasets. We find some cases of non-uniformities which may influence dynamical
analyses. A second paper will use this database to look for correlations

Electrodynamics of quasi-two-dimensional BEDT-TTF charge transfer salts
We consider the millimeter-wave electrodynamics specific to
quasi-two-dimensional conductors and superconductors based on the organic donor
molecule BEDT-TTF. Using realistic physical parameters, we examine the current
polarizations that result for different oscillating (GHz) electric and magnetic
field polarizations. We show that, in general, it is possible to discriminate
between effects (dissipation and dispersion) due to in-plane and interlayer ac
currents. However, we also show that it is not possible to selectively probe
any single component of the in-plane conductivity tensor, and that excitation
of interlayer currents is strongly influenced by the sample geometry and the

Dynamics of axial separation in long rotating drums
We propose a continuum description for the axial separation of granular
materials in a long rotating drum. The model, operating with two local
variables, concentration difference and the dynamic angle of repose, describes
both initial transient traveling wave dynamics and long-term segregation of the

The Calcium Triplet metallicity calibration for galactic bulge stars
We present a new calibration of the Calcium II Triplet equivalent widths
versus [Fe/H], constructed upon K giant stars in the Galactic bulge. This
calibration will be used to derive iron abundances for the targets of the GIBS
survey, and in general it is especially suited for solar and supersolar
metallicity giants, typical of external massive galaxies. About 150 bulge K
giants were observed with the GIRAFFE spectrograph at VLT, both at resolution
R~20,000 and at R~6,000. In the first case, the spectra allowed us to perform
direct determination of Fe abundances from several unblended Fe lines, deriving
what we call here high resolution [Fe/H] measurements. The low resolution
spectra allowed us to measure equivalent widths of the two strongest lines of
the near infrared Calcium II triplet at 8542 and 8662 A. By comparing the two
measurements we derived a relation between Calcium equivalent widths and [Fe/H]
that is linear over the metallicity range probed here, -1<[Fe/H]<+0.7. By
adding a small second order correction, based on literature globular cluster
data, we derived the unique calibration equation [Fe/H], with a rms dispersion of 0.197 dex, valid across the
whole metallicity range -2.3<[Fe/H]<+0.7.Comment: Accepted for publication in A&
Promoting independent learning skills using video on digital language laboratories

It investigates the potential for recording and editing video clips from online sources and digitalising clips from analogue recordings and reflects on the current status quo regarding the complex copyright regulations in this area. It describes two pilot self-access programmes based on video clips which were undertaken with University College Chester undergraduates and reflects on the value of the experience for students in developing a wide range of language skills as well as independent learning skills using their feedback on the experience
Sexual Attraction Toward Clients, Use of Supervision, and Prior Training: A Qualitative Study of Predoctoral Psychology Interns
Interviews were conducted with 13 predoctoral psychology interns about an experience of sexual attraction toward a client, use of supervision to address the sexual attraction, and prior training regarding sexual attraction. Results indicated that sexual attraction to clients consisted of physical and interpersonal aspects. Therapists believed they were more invested and attentive than usual to clients to whom they were sexually attracted, and they indicated that sexual attraction created distance, distraction, and loss of objectivity. In terms of supervision, only half of the participants disclosed their sexual attraction to supervisors, and supervisors seldom initiated the discussion. Furthermore, trainees found it helpful when supervisors normalized the sexual attraction and provided the opportunity to explore feelings in supervision. Finally, trainees believed their training programs did not adequately address therapist sexual attraction
Length Scales of Acceleration for Locally Isotropic Turbulence
Length scales are determined that govern the behavior at small separations of
the correlations of fluid-particle acceleration, viscous force, and pressure
gradient. The length scales and an associated universal constant are quantified
on the basis of published data. The length scale governing pressure spectra at
high wave numbers is discussed. Fluid-particle acceleration correlation is
governed by two length scales; one arises from the pressure gradient, the other

Distillation of GHZ states by selective information manipulation
Methods for distilling maximally entangled tripartite (GHZ) states from
arbitrary entangled tripartite pure states are described. These techniques work
for virtually any input state. Each technique has two stages which we call
primary and secondary distillation. Primary distillation produces a GHZ state
with some probability, so that when applied to an ensemble of systems, a
certain percentage is discarded. Secondary distillation produces further GHZs
from the discarded systems. These protocols are developed with the help of an
approach to quantum information theory based on absolutely selective
