    USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA FOR INFORMATION SERVICE DELIVERY IN NIGERIAN ACADEMIC LIBRARY

    This study examined the use of social media for information service delivery in Olusegun Oke Library LAUTECH Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Nigeria. Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. Library personnel constitute the respondent, fifty-one (51) both (librarian and library officer). Questionnaire and Focus Group Discussion (FGD) were the instrument used to gather data. Descriptive statistics (such as frequency counts, percentage, mean) and inferential (Pearson Product Moment Correlation) statistical tools were used for data analysis. The findings revealed that use of social media is very relevant and important to library service delivery. Encouragement of social medial facilities among staff especially those with least level of relevance as it expected of any library staff to be knowledgeable enough to use any of the social media facilities for information service delivery while university management should put effort to encourage on –job training in this direction for its library staff members as this would improve the level of relevance, awareness and encourage the usage of social media facilities among the University Library Staff and University Community at large. The library management should facilitate use of social media platform among library personnel by making available adequate infrastructure that supports internet connectivity in the library in other to resolved challenges encountered. This will encourage the librarians and paraprofessionals to use social media at work for library service delivery

    Library Operation and Services as Determinants of Researchers’ Satisfaction in an Agricultural Research Institute in Nigeria

    Operations and services provided by libraries are seen as social services with a responsibility to encourage society\u27s reading habits, especially in academic settings. The educational, economic, cultural, and recreational life of the whole population are strongly impacted by library services. A special library is known to offer services like interlibrary loan, reference and information, current awareness, selective information dissemination, user education, literature searching, bibliography compilation, indexing and abstracting, knowledge management, preservation and conservation, bindery, information literacy, and information media literacy. The research focuses on the following goals: discovering the library services offered by research libraries in Kwara State; identifying the services that are highly demanded by research libraries in Kwara State; gauging user satisfaction with Kwara State research libraries; and identifying potential obstacles that might endanger library delivery services there. The study used a descriptive survey, and 73 researchers from a Kwara State agricultural research institution make up the sample. Findings of the study show that; users are satisfied with the facilities and equipment of research libraries in Kwara State; users are satisfied with the attitude of staff at research libraries in Kwara State; and quality service has a positive and significant impact on use. User education programmes, volumes of text books and reference books, and personalised assistance provided by the library staff are services available in the special library.     Perception of Academic Librarians to the Use of Massive Online Open Courses as Professional Development Tools in Selected University Libraries in Osun State, Nigeria.

    Librarians’ professional development is the process of constantly strengthening professional attainment, broadening academic knowledge, enhancing the professional skills, and improving library services. The new Massive Open Online Courses necessitate academic librarians to be lifelong learners who can take advantage of available opportunities to improve their professional competence continuously. However, much research has not been done on perception of academic librarians to the use of MOOC as professional development tools. Therefore, this study examined perception of academic librarians to the use of MOOC as professional development tools in selected university libraries in Osun State, Nigeria. Also, the study adopted the descriptive survey design. Questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection and descriptive statistics were used for data analysis. Three Nigerian universities were selected which has a total number of Thirty eight (38) academic librarians. The total enumeration sampling technique was used to study all respondents for the study. The findings showed that academic librarians are fully aware of massive open online course as a tool for professional development in University libraries in Nigeria

    Awareness and Adoption of Cloud Computing in Nigerian Libraries: An Aid to Library Services

    Abstract The study focused on awareness and adoption of cloud computing in Nigerian libraries. Given the importance of cloud computing to information resources storage and service delivery, it has become necessary to find out the extent of awareness among library personnel and to ascertain what they use it for, either for personnel or professional use and as well the area to which cloud based services has been adopted in some selected Private Universities in Osun State. A survey design was adopted for this study. Fifty-three library personnel from four private university libraries constitutes the respondent for the study. These respondents were randomly selected. Questionnaire was used as instrument for data collection. The data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics with the use of the Software Package for Service Solution (SPSS). The study concluded that most library personnel are aware of cloud computing and uses it mostly for personal than professional purposes also, most libraries provide mailing services and social networking cloud-based services, more so, the most adopted area of cloud-based services in their libraries is in the area of Library Management Software (LMS) others raised concerns over the security of their resources. The study however recommended that before the adoption of cloud computing technologies, there is a need to sensitize and train library personnel on the professional importance of cloud computing, consideration should also be given to privacy issues. This will give libraries the assurance that their resources are secured and save from intellectual property theft
