    The qq-deformed statistics for fermions arising within the non-extensive thermostatistical formalism has been applied to the study of various quantum many-body systems recently. The aim of the present note is to point out some subtle difficulties presented by this approach in connection with the problem of thermodynamic consistency.     Biculturals in International Business Negotiations: Moving away from the single culture paradigm

    Article publication date: 24 March 2023Purpose – Biculturals possess higher cultural intelligence than monocultural individuals. This study explores biculturals’ key factors and attributes and how their cultural knowledge and identification influence International Business Negotiations (IBNs) and help their firms outperform others. Design/methodology/approach – Data were collected from semi-structured interviews with 35 bicultural senior managers in Lebanon. Findings – The findings highlight three essential qualities and behaviors that allow biculturals to act as a bridge between the parties during IBN: adaptability, cultural frame switching (CFS) and creativity.     Vortex behavior near a spin vacancy in 2D XY-magnets

    The dynamical behavior of anisotropic two dimensional Heisenberg models is still a matter of controversy. The existence of a central peak at all temperatures and a rich structure of magnon peaks are not yet understood. It seems that the central peaks are related, in some way, to structures like vortices. In order to contribute to the discussion of the dynamical behavior of the model we use Monte Carlo and spin dynamics simulations as well analytical calculations to study the behavior of vortices in the presence of nonmagnetic impurities. Our simulations show that vortices are attracted and trapped by the impurities. Using this result we show that if we suppose that vortices are not very much disturbed by the presence of the impurities, then they work as an attractive potential to the vortices explaining the observed behavior in our simulations.Comment: 4 pages, 6 figure

    Atmospheric electricity as a proxy for air quality:Relationship between potential gradient and pollutant gases in an urban environment

    A relationship between Trace Gases (TG), NOx, SO2, O3, and the Atmospheric Electric Potential Gradient (PG), through Ion/Particulate Matter (PM) interaction, is established in the urban environment of the city of Lisbon (Portugal). Analysis was restricted to 1988–1990, when simultaneous measurements of PG and TG were taken. Reasonable linear relationships between PG and TG concentrations have been found. A formulation relating PG with TG concentrations allows the estimation of constants of proportionally between TG-PM to be ∼50 cm−3 ppb−1; which are similar to the values found in direct TG-PM measurements in UK cities, validating the present results

    Magnetic field strength and orientation effects on co-fe discontinuous multilayers close to percolation

    International audienceMagnetization and magnetoresistance in function of the magnitude and orientation of applied magnetic field were studied in Co-Fe discontinuous multilayers close to their structural percolation. The high pulsed magnetic fields up to 33 T were used in the 120–310 K temperature range. Comparison between longitudinal and transverse with respect to the film plane field configurations was made in the low-field and high-field regimes in order to clarify the nature of the measured negative magnetoresistance. Coexistence of two distinct magnetic fractions, superparamagnetic SPM, consisting of small spherical Co-Fe granules and superferromagnetic SFM, by bigger Co-Fe clusters, was established in this system. These fractions were shown to have different relevance for the system magnetization and magnetotransport. While the magnetization is almost completely up to 97% defined by the SFM contribution and practically independent of temperature in this range, the magnetoresistance experiences a crossover from a regime dominated by Langevin correlations suppressed with temperature between neighbor SPM and SFM moments at low fields, to that dominated by spin scattering enhanced with temperature of charge carriers within SFM clusters at high fields. Also, the demagnetizing effects, sensitive to the field orientation, were found to essentially define the low-field behavior and characteristic crossover field
