Recent N^* Results From J/\psi Decays
Based on 7.8 million J/\psi events collected at BEPC, the events for J/\psi
\to p\bar{p}\pi^0 and p\bar{p}\eta have been selected and reconstructed. Clear
peaks are observed around 1480 MeV in p\pi^0 (\bar{p}\pi^0) invariant mass
spectrum and near the threshold for production in p\eta(\bar{p}\eta)
invariant mass spectrum. A partial wave analysis of J/\psi \to p\bar{p}\eta
data has been performed. Two J^P={1/2}^- resonances are observed with mass and
width (M, \Gamma) at (1540^{+15}_{-17}, 178^{+20}_{-22}) MeV and
(1648^{+18}_{-16}, 150)MeV, and are considered to be the nucleon resonances
S_{11}(1535) and S_{11}(1650) respectively.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, proceedings for Hadron9
Cyclophosphamide induces NR2B phosphorylation-dependent facilitation on spinal reflex potentiation
Chang CH, Peng HY, Wu HC, Lai CY, Hsieh MC, Lin TB. Cyclophosphamide induces NR2B phosphorylation-dependent facilitation on spinal reflex potentiation. Am J Physiol Renal Physiol 300: F692-F699, 2011. First published November 24, 2010; doi:10.1152/ajprenal.00531.2010.-It is well-established that cyclophosphamide (CYP) can sensitize the pelvic afferent nerve arising from the urinary bladder and therefore induce suprapubic pain. To test the possibility that CYP might mediate the development of visceral hypereflexia/hyperalgesia by facilitating spinal activity-dependent neural plasticity, we compared the pelvic-urethra reflex activity and spinal N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor NR2B subunit (NR2B) phosphorylation in rats treated with vehicle solution and CYP. Compared with vehicle solution, when accompanied by upregulation of phosphorylated NR2B expression in the lumbosacral (L6-S2) dorsal horn, CYP increased the evoked spikes in spinal reflex potentiation induced by repetitive stimulation (1 stimulation/1 s). Moreover, intraperitoneal pretreatments with N(G)-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester and roscovitine, nitric oxide synthase and cyclin-dependent protein kinase 5 (Cdk5) antagonists, respectively, overwrote CYP-enhanced reflex potentiation and NR2B phosphorylation. When compared with the untreated group, the treatment with small-interfering RNA of NR2B, which decreased the expression of NR2B expression, abolished CYP-dependent reflex facilitation and spinal NR2B phosphorylation. These results suggested that CYP might facilitate spinal reflex potentiation mediated by N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors and participate in the development of visceral hypereflexia/hyperalgesia through nitric oxide-and Cdk5-dependent NR2B phosphorylation at the lumbosacral dorsal horn
Spectral Function of rho in Dense and Hot Hadronic Matter
The spectral function of rho meson in hot/dense hadronic matter is studied by
taking into account the nucleon-loop on quantum hadrondynamics model level.
Different from the hot pion gas effect which changes the spectral function
slightly, the nucleon-antinucleon polarization (Dirac sea) makes the spectral
function very sharp and shifted towards the low invariant mass region
significantly due to the decreasing effective nucleon mass.Comment: Revised version to be published, 10 pages, 8 figure
EphrinB2 induces pelvic-urethra reflex potentiation via Src kinase-dependent tyrosine phosphorylation of NR2B
Wu HC, Chang CH, Peng HY, Chen GD, Lai CY, Hsieh MC, Lin TB. EphrinB2 induces pelvic-urethra reflex potentiation via Src kinase-dependent tyrosine phosphorylation of NR2B. Am J Physiol Renal Physiol 300: F403-F411, 2011. First published December 8, 2010; doi:10.1152/ajprenal.00520.2010.-Recently, the role of EphB receptor (EphBR) tyrosine kinase and their ephrinB ligands in pain-related neural plasticity at the spinal cord level have been identified. To test whether Src-family tyrosine kinase-dependent glutamatergic N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor NR2B subunit phosphorylation underlies lumbosacral spinal EphBR activation to mediate pelvic-urethra reflex potentiation, we recorded external urethra sphincter electromyogram reflex activity and analyzed protein expression in the lumbosacral (L(6)-S(2)) dorsal horn in response to intrathecal ephrinB2 injections. When compared with vehicle solution, exogenous ephrinB2 (5 mu g/rat it)-induced reflex potentiation, in associated with phosphorylation of EphB1/2, Src-family kinase, NR2B Y1336 and Y1472 tyrosine residues. Both intrathecal EphB1 and EphB2 immunoglobulin fusion protein (both 10 mu g/rat it) prevented ephrinB2-dependent reflex potentiation, as well as protein phosphorylation. Pretreatment with PP2 (50 mu M, 10 mu l it), an Src-family kinase antagonist, reversed the reflex potentiation, as well as Src kinase and NR2B phosphorylation. Together, these results suggest the ephrinB2-dependent EphBR activation, which subsequently provokes Src kinase-mediated N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor NR2B phosphorylation in the lumbosacral dorsal horn, is crucial for the induction of spinal reflex potentiation contributing to the development of visceral pain and/or hyperalgesia in the pelvic area
Dynamics of tournaments: the soccer case
A random walk-like model is considered to discuss statistical aspects of
tournaments. The model is applied to soccer leagues with emphasis on the
scores. This competitive system was computationally simulated and the results
are compared with empirical data from the English, the German and the Spanish
leagues and showed a good agreement with them. The present approach enabled us
to characterize a diffusion where the scores are not normally distributed,
having a short and asymmetric tail extending towards more positive values. We
argue that this non-Gaussian behavior is related with the difference between
the teams and with the asymmetry of the scores system. In addition, we compared
two tournament systems: the all-play-all and the elimination tournaments.Comment: To appear in EPJ
Slowly rotating black holes in the Horava-Lifshitz gravity
We investigate slowly rotating black holes in the Ho\v{r}ava-Lifshitz (HL)
gravity. For and , we find a slowly rotating black
hole of the Kehagias-Sfetsos solution in asymptotically flat spacetimes. We
discuss their thermodynamic properties by computing mass, temperature, angular
momentum, and angular velocity on the horizon.Comment: 12 pages, no figures, version to appear in EPJ
Slowly rotating charged black holes in anti-de Sitter third order Lovelock gravity
In this paper, we study slowly rotating black hole solutions in Lovelock
gravity (n=3). These exact slowly rotating black hole solutions are obtained in
uncharged and charged cases, respectively. Up to the linear order of the
rotating parameter a, the mass, Hawking temperature and entropy of the
uncharged black holes get no corrections from rotation. In charged case, we
compute magnetic dipole moment and gyromagnetic ratio of the black holes. It is
shown that the gyromagnetic ratio keeps invariant after introducing the
Gauss-Bonnet and third order Lovelock interactions.Comment: 14 pages, no figur
Molecular velocity auto-correlation of simple liquids observed by NMR MGSE method
The velocity auto-correlation spectra of simple liquids obtained by the NMR
method of modulated gradient spin echo show features in the low frequency range
up to a few kHz, which can be explained reasonably well by a long
time tail decay only for non-polar liquid toluene, while the spectra of polar
liquids, such as ethanol, water and glycerol, are more congruent with the model
of diffusion of particles temporarily trapped in potential wells created by
their neighbors. As the method provides the spectrum averaged over ensemble of
particle trajectories, the initial non-exponential decay of spin echoes is
attributed to a spatial heterogeneity of molecular motion in a bulk of liquid,
reflected in distribution of the echo decays for short trajectories. While at
longer time intervals, and thus with longer trajectories, heterogeneity is
averaged out, giving rise to a spectrum which is explained as a combination of
molecular self-diffusion and eddy diffusion within the vortexes of hydrodynamic
fluctuations.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figur
Selection of shrimp breeders free of white spot syndrome and infectious hypodermal and hematopoietic necrosis
The objective of this work was to select surviving breeders of Litopenaeus vannamei from white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) outbreak, adapted to local climatic conditions and negatively diagnosed for WSSV and infectious hypodermal and hematopoietic necrosis virus (IHHNV), and to evaluate if this strategy is a viable alternative for production in Santa Catarina, Brazil. A total of 800 males and 800 females were phenotypically selected in a farm pond. Nested-PCR analyses of 487 sexually mature females and 231 sexually mature males showed that 63% of the females and 55% of the males were infected with IHHNV. Animals free of IHHNV were tested for WSSV, and those considered double negative were used for breeding. The post-larvae produced were stocked in nine nursery tanks for analysis. From the 45 samples, with 50 post-larvae each, only two were positive for IHHNV and none for WSSV. Batches of larvae diagnosed free of virus by nested-PCR were sent to six farms. A comparative analysis was carried out in growth ponds, between local post-larvae and post-larvae from Northeast Brazil. Crabs (Chasmagnathus granulata), blue crabs (Callinectes sapidus), and sea hares (Aplysia brasiliana), which are possible vectors of these viruses, were also evaluated. The mean survival was 55% for local post-larvae against 23.4% for post-larvae from the Northeast. Sea hares showed prevalence of 50% and crabs of 67% of WSSV
