    Hot Nuclear Matter : A Variational Approach

    We develop a nonperturbative technique in field theory to study properties of infinite nuclear matter at zero temperature as well as at finite temperatures. Here we dress the nuclear matter with off-mass shell pions. The techniques of thermofield dynamics are used for finite temperature calculations. Equation of state is derived from the dynamics of the interacting system in a self consistent manner. The transition temperature for nuclear matter appears to be around 15 MeV.Comment: 16 pages, IP/BBSR/91-3

    Neutron matter - Quark matter phase transition and Quark star

    We consider the neutron matter quark matter phase transition along with possible existence of hybrid quark stars. The equation of state for neutron matter is obtained using a nonperturbative method with pion dressing of the neutron matter and an analysis similar to that of symmetric nuclear matter. The quark matter sector is treated perturbatively in the small distance domain. For bag constant B1/4B^{1/4}=148 MeV, a first order phase transition is seen. In the context of neutron quark hybrid stars, Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equations are solved using the equations of state for quark matter and for neutron matter with a phase transition as noted earlier. Stable solutions for such stars are obtained with the Chandrasekhar limit as 1.58 MM_\odot and radius around 10 km. The bulk of the star is quark matter with a thin crust of neutron matter of less than a kilometer.Comment: 28 pages including 9 figures, Revtex, IP/BBSR/92-8

    Waste Management in Some Medium Sized Metallurgical Industries

    In thispaper, an attempt has been made to discuss some aspects of the nature of wastes generated and their management in some medium sized metallurgical industries, viz. mini steel plants of (1) MIs Special Steels Limtited, Bombay; (2)MIs Sun Flag Iron and Steel Company Ltd., Bhandara Road; (3) MIs IPISTEEL,Dhenkanal; (4) MlsIncast Metal Private Limited, Bhubaneswar (Steel Casting); (5) MIs Indo Flo gates Limited, Kalunga (Refractory Castings); (6) MIs Konark Malleables Private Limited, Jagatpur (Processing of Malleables) and (7) Mr's Foundry Forge Plant, Ranchi (Forging). The wastes considered are solid, liquid and gaseous entities. The solid wastes are in the form of slag, mill scale, used refractory, used moulding sand, coal ash, saw dust, metal turnings and borings, various dusts from flue gases and dry grinding units, lime slurry and sludges. The liquid wastes are in the form of industrial effluents at ambient and higher temperatures. The characteristics such as pfl, total suspended solids, total dissolved solids,dissolved oxygen, chemical oxygen and biological oxygen demands, oil and greases etc. are given quantitatively. The gaseous wastes consists of flue gases and fumes from furnaces and tar pots. These wastes may contain oxides of carbon, sulphur and nitrogen, cyanides, fluorides, etc. Values of these characteristics are given. Mention has been made of the requirements of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB)for the Iron and Steel Industry together with pollution control measures for better environmental management

    A New Dynamic Round Robin and SRTN Algorithm with Variable Original Time Slice and Intelligent Time Slice for Soft Real Time Systems

    The main objective of the paper is to improve the Round Robin (RR) algorithm using dynamic ITS by coalescing it with Shortest Remaining Time Next (SRTN) algorithm thus reducing the average waiting time, average turnaround time and the number of context switches. The original time slice has been calculated for each process based on its burst time.This is mostly suited for soft real time systems where meeting of deadlines is desirable to increase its performance. The advantage is that processes that are closer to their remaining completion time will get more chances to execute and leave the ready queue. This will reduce the number of processes in the ready queue by knocking out short jobs relatively faster in a hope to reduce the average waiting time, turn around time and number of context switches. This paper improves the algorithm [8] and the experimental analysis shows that the proposed algorithm performs better than algorithm [6] and [8] when the processes are having an increasing order, decreasing order and random order of burst time.Comment: 07 pages; International Journal of Computer Applications, Vol 16, No. 1(9) February 201

    Studies on some homo and hetero trinuclear complexes of nickel(II), cobalt(II) and copper(II) with 1,8-bis(2'-oxophenyl)2,3,6,7-tetraza-4,5-dimethyl-1,3,5,7-octatetraene (BTDO)

    788-791A few homo/hetero trinuc1ear complexes of the type [MNiM(BTDO)2X2(H2O)4] nH2O [where M = nickel(II), cobalt(II) and copper(II), X = cr or NO, n = 0, or 0.5 and BTDO = 1,8-bis(2'-oxophenyl)-2,3,6, 7-tetraza4,5-dimethyl-1 ,3,5,7-octatetraene] have been isolated in a stepwise reaction from the precursor nickel bis(diacetyldihydrazone) complexes. These have been characterised on the basis of elemental analyses, spectral and magnetic properties, conductivity measurements and thermal analyses. All the complexes contain coordinated water. The metal centres have an octahedral environmental around them
