Pion Interactions in Chiral Field Theories

    Get PDF
We study in various chiral models the pion charge radius, πe3\pi_{e3} form factor ratio, πγγ\pi^\circ \to \gamma \gamma amplitude, charge pion polarizabilities, γγππ\gamma\gamma \to \pi^\circ \pi^\circ amplitude at low energies and the ππ\pi\pi s-wave I = 0 scattering length. We find that a quark-level linear sigma-model approach (also being consistent with tree-level vector meson dominance) is quite compatible with all of the above data.Comment: 12 pages, 9 eps figure

π+\pi^+ and π0\pi^0 Polarizabilities from {γγππ\gamma\gamma\rightarrow\pi\pi} Data on the Base of S-Matrix Approach

We suggest the most model-independent and simple description of the γγππ\gamma\gamma\rightarrow\pi\pi process near threshold in framework of S-matrix approach. The amplitudes contain the pion polarizabilities and rather restricted information about ππ\pi \pi interaction. Application of these formulae for description of MARK-II \cite{M2} and Crystal Ball \cite{CB} data gives: (αβ)C=(6.0±1.2)1042cm3(\alpha-\beta)^{C}=(6.0\pm 1.2)\cdot 10^{-42} {\rm cm}^{3}, (αβ)N=(1.4±2.1)1042cm3(\alpha-\beta)^{N}=(-1.4\pm 2.1)\cdot 10^{-42} cm^3 (in units system e2=4παe^2 = 4 \pi \alpha) at the experimental values of ππ\pi \pi scattering lengths. Both values are compartible with current algebra predictions.Comment: LaTeX, 14 pages plus 6 figures (not included, available upon request) , ISU-IAP.Th93-03, Irkuts

    Momentum Dependent Vertices σγγ\sigma \gamma \gamma, σργ\sigma \rho \gamma and σρρ\sigma \rho \rho : The NJL Scalar Hidden by Chiral Symmetry

We calculate the momentum dependence of three particle vertices σγγ\sigma \gamma \gamma, σργ\sigma \rho \gamma and σρρ\sigma \rho \rho in the context of a Nambu Jona Lasinio type model. We show how they influence the processes γγσππ\gamma \gamma \rightarrow \sigma \rightarrow \pi \pi, ργσ\rho \rightarrow \gamma \sigma and γγρρ\gamma \gamma \rightarrow \rho \rho and how chiral symmetry shadows the presence of the σ\sigma.Comment: 9 pages (latex), 5 figures available from the authors, preprint Coimbra 940506, IJS-TP-94/10, accepted for publication in Zeit. f. Photon-Photon Scattering, Pion Polarizability and Chiral Symmetry

Recent attempts to detect the pion polarizability via analysis of γγππ\gamma\gamma\rightarrow\pi\pi measurements are examined. The connection between calculations based on dispersion relations and on chiral perturbation theory is established by matching the low energy chiral amplitude with that given by a full dispersive treatment. Using the values for the polarizability required by chiral symmetry, predicted and experimental cross sections are shown to be in agreement.Comment: 21 pages(+10 figures available on request), LATEX, UMHEP-38

The standard model at low energies

The hadronic sector of the standard model at low energies is described by a non--decoupling effective field theory, chiral perturbation theory. An introduction is given to the construction of effective chiral Lagrangians, both in the purely mesonic sector and with inclusion of baryons. The connection between the relativistic formulation and the heavy baryon approach to chiral perturbation theory with baryons is reviewed.Comment: Lectures given at the 6th Indian-Summer School on Intermediate Energy Physics, Prague, Aug. 1993, Latex, 26 pages (with a4.sty), UWThPh-1993-3

    Hadron Spectroscopy: Theory and Experiment

    Get PDF
Many new results on hadron spectra have been appearing in the past few years thanks to improved experimental techniques and searches in new channels. New theoretical techniques including refined methods of lattice QCD have kept pace with these developments. Much has been learned about states made of both light (u, d, and s) and heavy (c, b) quarks. The present review treats light-quark mesons, glueballs, hybrids, particles with a single c or b quark, charmonium, and bottomonium states. Some prospects for further study are noted.Comment: 29 pages, 9 figures, to be published in Journal of Physics G. Further updating of reference

Observation of Two Narrow States Decaying into Ξc+γ\Xi_{c}^{+}\gamma and Ξc0γ\Xi_{c}^{0}\gamma

We report the first observation of two narrow charmed strange baryons decaying to Ξc+γ\Xi_c^+\gamma and Ξc0γ\Xi_c^0\gamma, respectively, using data from the CLEO II detector at CESR. We interpret the observed signals as the Ξc+(csu)\Xi_c^{+\prime}(c{su}) and Ξc0(csd)\Xi_c^{0\prime}(c{sd}), the symmetric partners of the well-established antisymmetric Ξc+(c[su])\Xi_c^+(c[su]) and Ξc0(c[sd])\Xi_c^0(c[sd]). The mass differences M(Ξc+)M(Ξc+)M(\Xi_c^{+\prime})-M(\Xi_c^+) and M(Ξc0)M(Ξc0)M(\Xi_c^{0\prime})-M(\Xi_c^0) are measured to be 107.8±1.7±2.5107.8\pm 1.7\pm 2.5 and 107.0±1.4±2.5MeV/c2107.0\pm 1.4\pm 2.5 MeV/c^2, respectively.Comment: 11 pages, postscript file also available through http://w4.lns.cornell.edu/public/CLN
