Jets and Jet Multiplicities in High Energy Photon-Nucleon Inetraction:

    Get PDF
We discuss the theory of jet events in high-energy photon-proton interactions using a model which gives a good description of the data available on total inelastic γp\gamma p cross sections up to s\sqrt{s}=210 GeV. We show how to calculate the jet cross sections and jet multiplicities and give predictions for these quantities for energies appropriate for experiments at the HERA epep collider and for very high energy cosmic ray observations.Comment: 12 pages + 4 figs, MAD/TH/92-8, submitted to Phys. Anyons and Chiral Solitons on a Line

    Get PDF
We show that excitations in a recently proposed gauge theory for anyons on a line in fact do not obey anomalous statistics. On the other hand, the theory supports novel chiral solitons. Also we construct a field-theoretic description of lineal anyons, but gauge fields play no role.Comment: 8 pages, revtex, no figure

Intricacies of the Co3+^{3+} spin state in Sr2_2Co0.5_{0.5}Ir0.5_{0.5}O4_4: an x-ray absorption and magnetic circular dichroism study

We report on a combined soft x-ray absorption and magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) study at the Co-L3,2L_{3,2} on the hybrid 3dd/5dd solid state oxide Sr2_2Co0.5_{0.5}Ir0.5_{0.5}O4_4 with the K2_2NiF4_4 structure. Our data indicate unambiguously a pure high spin state (S=2)(S=2) for the Co3+^{3+} (3d6d^6) ions with a significant unquenched orbital moment Lz/2Sz=0.25L_z/2S_z=0.25 despite the sizeable elongation of the CoO6_6 octahedra. Using quantitative model calculations based on parameters consistent with our spectra, we have investigated the stability of this high spin state with respect to the competing low spin and intermediate spin states.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figure

[Colored solutions of Yang-Baxter equation from representations of U_{q}gl(2)]

We study the Hopf algebra structure and the highest weight representation of a multiparameter version of Uqgl(2)U_{q}gl(2). The commutation relations as well as other Hopf algebra maps are explicitly given. We show that the multiparameter universal R{\cal R} matrix can be constructed directly as a quantum double intertwiner, without using Reshetikhin's transformation. An interesting feature automatically appears in the representation theory: it can be divided into two types, one for generic qq, the other for qq being a root of unity. When applying the representation theory to the multiparameter universal R{\cal R} matrix, the so called standard and nonstandard colored solutions R(μ,ν;μ′,ν′)R(\mu,\nu; {\mu}', {\nu}') of the Yang-Baxter equation is obtained.Comment: [14]pages, latex, no figure
