Angular and Abundance Distribution of High-energy Gamma Rays and Neutrons Simulated by GEANT4 Code for Solar Flares
In the solar flare observed on June 3, 2012, high energy gamma-rays and
neutrons were observed. The event includes a remarkable feature of a high
neutron/gamma-ratio in the secondary particles. We have examined whether this
high n/-ratio can be explained by simulation. As a result of
simulations using the GEANT4 program, the high n/-ratio may be
reproduced for the case that helium and other heavy ions were dominantly
accelerated in the flare.Comment: submitted to the Proceeding of The 20th International Symposium on

Quantitative determination of the adhesive fracture toughness of CVD diamond to WC-Co cemented carbide
Well-separated diamond particles were nucleated and grown by hot filament chemical vapor deposition (HFCVD) onto WC-Co cemented carbide pretreated by Murakami's reagent and H2O2 + H2SO4 solution. The adhesive strength of diamond particles to WC-Co cemented carbide was quantitatively determined in terms of interface toughness by directly applying an external load to the CVD diamond particles. From the measurement of the maximum load required to scratch off the particles, we determined that the adhesive toughness was 14 J/m(2). This value is more than twice as high as that of CVD diamond on smooth silicon substrate and comparable to the cleavage fracture energy of diamond. The newly developed procedure will allow to check the effectiveness of substrate surface pretreatments for further improving the adhesion level of diamond films on WC-Co. Successful toric intraocular lens implantation in a patient with induced cataract and astigmatism after posterior chamber toric phakic intraocular lens implantation: a case report

Abstract

Introduction

We report the case of a patient in whom simultaneous toric phakic intraocular lens removal and phacoemulsification with toric intraocular lens implantation were beneficial for reducing pre-existing astigmatism and acquiring good visual outcomes in eyes with implantable collamer lens-induced cataract and astigmatism.

Case presentation

A 53-year-old woman had undergone toric implantable collamer lens implantation three years earlier. After informed consent was obtained, we performed simultaneous toric implantable collamer lens removal and phacoemulsification with toric intraocular lens implantation. Preoperatively, the manifest refraction was 0, -0.5 Ć 15, with an uncorrected visual acuity of 0.7 and a best spectacle-corrected visual acuity of 0.8. Postoperatively, the manifest refraction was improved to 0, -0.5 Ć 180, with an uncorrected visual acuity of 1.2 and a best spectacle-corrected visual acuity of 1.5. No vision-threatening complications were observed.

Conclusion

Toric intraocular lens implantation may be a good surgical option for the correction of spherical and cylindrical errors in eyes with implantable collamer lens-induced cataract and astigmatism.</p
