Boundary regularity for the Poisson equation in reifenberg-flat domains

This paper is devoted to the investigation of the boundary regularity for the Poisson equation {{cc} -\Delta u = f & \text{in} \Omega u= 0 & \text{on} \partial \Omega where ff belongs to some Lp(Ω)L^p(\Omega) and Ω\Omega is a Reifenberg-flat domain of Rn.\mathbb R^n. More precisely, we prove that given an exponent α(0,1)\alpha\in (0,1), there exists an ε>0\varepsilon>0 such that the solution uu to the previous system is locally H\"older continuous provided that Ω\Omega is (ε,r0)(\varepsilon,r_0)-Reifenberg-flat. The proof is based on Alt-Caffarelli-Friedman's monotonicity formula and Morrey-Campanato theorem

THE CONTRIBUTION OF LOWER TORSO, UPPER TORSO AND UPPER LIMBS SEGMENTAL MOTION TO HAMMER HEAD VELOCITY DURING ACCELERATION PHASE

In hammer throw event, the distance of the hammer throw is mainly determined by hammer head resultant velocity at release. During turn phase, hammer head resultant velocity is increased gradually with four turns and is increased during double support phase. The purpose of this study was to investigate the contribution of the motions in the lower torso, upper torso, upper limbs and hammer segment to the hammer head tangential velocity during double support phase

Optical observations of NEA 162173 (1999 JU3) during the 2011-2012 apparition

Near-Earth asteroid 162173 (1999 JU3) is a potential target of two asteroid sample return missions, not only because of its accessibility but also because of the first C-type asteroid for exploration missions. The lightcurve-related physical properties of this object were investigated during the 2011-2012 apparition. We aim to confirm the physical parameters useful for JAXA's Hayabusa 2 mission, such as rotational period, absolute magnitude, and phase function. Our data complement previous studies that did not cover low phase angles. With optical imagers and 1-2 m class telescopes, we acquired the photometric data at different phase angles. We independently derived the rotational lightcurve and the phase curve of the asteroid. We have analyzed the lightcurve of 162173 (1999 JU3), and derived a synodic rotational period of 7.625 +/- 0.003 h, the axis ratio a/b = 1.12. The absolute magnitude H_R = 18.69 +/- 0.07 mag and the phase slope of G = -0.09 +/- 0.03 were also obtained based on the observations made during the 2011-2012 apparition.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure

Testing for heteroskedasticity of the residuals in fuzzy rule-based models

    Get PDF
International audienceIn this paper, we propose a new diagnostic checking tool for fuzzy rule-based modelling of time series. Through the study of the residuals in the Lagrange Multiplier testing framework we devise a hypothesis test which allows us to determine if the residual time series is homoscedastic or not, that is, if it has the same variance throughout time. This is another important step towards a statistically sound modelling strategy for fuzzy rule-based models

An association between lifespan and variation in insulin-like growth factor I receptor in sheep

Longevity in livestock is a valuable trait. When productive animals live longer, fewer replacement animals need to be raised. However, selection for longevity is not commonly the focus of breeding programs as direct selection for long-lived breeding stock is virtually impossible until late in the reproductive life of the animal. Additionally the underlying genetic factors or genes associated with longevity are either not known, or not well understood. In humans, there is evidence that IGF 1 receptor (IGF1R) is involved in longevity. Polymorphism in the IGF1R gene has been associated with longevity in a number of species. Recently, 3 alleles of ovine IGF1R were identified, but no analysis of the effect of IGF1R variation on sheep longevity has been reported. In this study, associations between ovine IGF1R variation, longevity and fertility were investigated. Polymerase chain reaction-single strand conformational polymorphism (PCR-SSCP) was used to type IGF1R variation in 1,716 New Zealand sheep belonging to 6 breeds and 36 flocks. Ovine IGF1R C was associated with age when adjusting for flock (present 5.5 ± 0.2 yr, absent 5.0 ± 0.1 yr, P = 0.02). A general linear mixed effects model suggested an association (P = 0.06) between age and genotype, when correcting for flock. Pairwise comparison (least significant difference) of specific genotypes revealed the difference to be between AA (5.0± 0.1 yr) and AC (5.6 ± 0.2 yr, P = 0.02). A weak negative Pearson correlation between fertility and longevity traits was observed (r = -0.25, P < 0.01). The finding of an association between variation in IGF1R and lifespan in sheep may be useful in prolonging the lifespan of sheep

On the L_p-solvability of higher order parabolic and elliptic systems with BMO coefficients

We prove the solvability in Sobolev spaces for both divergence and non-divergence form higher order parabolic and elliptic systems in the whole space, on a half space, and on a bounded domain. The leading coefficients are assumed to be merely measurable in the time variable and have small mean oscillations with respect to the spatial variables in small balls or cylinders. For the proof, we develop a set of new techniques to produce mean oscillation estimates for systems on a half space.Comment: 44 pages, introduction revised, references expanded. To appear in Arch. The Taiwanese-American Occultation Survey (TAOS) operates four fully automatic telescopes to search for occultations of stars by Kuiper Belt Objects. It is a versatile facility that is also useful for the study of initial optical GRB afterglows. This paper provides a detailed description of the TAOS multi-telescope system, control software, and high-speed imaging.Comment: 11 pages, 11 figure
