An algebraic formula for the index of a vector field on an isolated complete intersection singularity

    Get PDF
Let (V,0) be a germ of a complete intersection variety in \CC^{n+k}, n>0, having an isolated singularity at 0 and X be the germ of a holomorphic vector field on \CC^{n+k} tangent to V and having on V an isolated zero at 0. We show that in this case the homological index and the GSV-index coincide. In the case when the zero of X is also isolated in the ambient space \CC^{n+k} we give a formula for the homological index in terms of local linear algebra.Comment: 18 pages; added an example which is not quasi homogeneous. A script calculating this example can be found at http://www.iag.uni-hannover.de/~bothmer/gobelin/ or at the and of the source file of this articl

The elimination of surface cross-hatch from relaxed, limited-area Si1 – xGex buffer layers

    Get PDF
The influence of lateral dimensions on the relaxation and surface topography of linearly graded Si1 – xGex buffer layers has been investigated. A dramatic change in the relaxation mechanism has been observed for depositions on Si mesa pillars of lateral dimensions 10 µm and below. Misfit dislocations are able to extend unhindered and terminate at the edges of the growth zone, yielding a surface free of cross-hatch. For lateral dimensions in excess of 10 µm orthogonal misfit interactions occur and relaxation is dominated by the modified Frank–Read (MFR) mechanism. The stress fields associated with the MFR dislocation pile-ups result in a pronounced cross-hatch topography

On the rationality of the moduli space of L\"uroth quartics

    Get PDF
We prove that the moduli space M_L of L"uroth quartics in P^2, i.e. the space of quartics which can be circumscribed around a complete pentagon of lines modulo the action of PGL_3(CC) is rational, as is the related moduli space of Bateman seven-tuples of points in P^2.Comment: 7 page

Marangoni convection in droplets on superhydrophobic surfaces

    Get PDF
We consider a small droplet of water sitting on top of a heated superhydrophobic surface. A toroidal convection pattern develops in which fluid is observed to rise along the surface of the spherical droplet and to accelerate downwards in the interior towards the liquid/solid contact point. The internal dynamics arise due to the presence of a vertical temperature gradient; this leads to a gradient in surface tension which in turn drives fluid away from the contact point along the interface. We develop a solution to this thermocapillary-driven Marangoni flow analytically in terms of streamfunctions. Quantitative comparisons between analytical and experimental results, as well as effective heat transfer coefficients, are presented.National Science Foundation (U.S.) (CTS-045609)National Science Foundation (U.S.) (CCF-0323672

The subject issledovaniyayavlyaetsya - personnel system adaptation. The purpose work- evaluation system to adapt and develop methods to improve it in the cafe "Dumplings Project». The study conducted a comprehensive survey. The study developed recommendations to improve the personnel system to adapt to the cafe "Dumplings Project». Degree of implementation: adapting the system of young staff in the cafe "Dumplings Project» is at a good level, hosts a variety of supportive measures for adaptation to work, in spite of this, all still there are some shortcomings in this area, confirming that is staff turnover and dissatisfaction with the new employees

Interference of Higgs boson resonances in mu^+ mu^- -> neutralino_i neutralino_j with longitudinal beam polarization

We study the interference of resonant Higgs boson exchange in neutralino production in \mu^+ \mu^- annihilation with longitudinally polarized beams. We use the energy distribution of the decay lepton in the process \neutralino_j \to \ell^\pm \slepton^\mp to determine the polarization of the neutralinos. In the CP conserving Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model a non-vanishing asymmetry in the lepton energy spectrum is caused by the interference of Higgs boson exchange channels with different CP eigenvalues. The contribution of this interference is large if the heavy neutral bosons H and A are nearly degenerate. We show that the asymmetry can be used to determine the couplings of the neutral Higgs bosons to the neutralinos. In particular, the asymmetry allows to determine the relative phase of the couplings. We find large asymmetries and cross sections for a set of reference scenarios with nearly degenerate neutral Higgs bosons.Comment: 20 pages, 6 figures, minor typos corrected, to appear in Eur. Phys. Influencing factors for the digital transformation in the financial services sector

    Get PDF
Digital transformation affects almost every area in societies and has consequences for incumbent companies. With qualitative research, we explore the influencing factors for digital transformation in the financial services sector. We use a PEST-model and Porter’s Five Forces as the underlying structure for our analysis. Our interviews and findings show that the financial services sector face the same current challenges, but their impact is perceived higher in the banking than in the insurance sector concerning social factors and bargaining power of buyers. The character of the current development is evolutionary rather than disruptive. Almost all incumbents currently focus on modernizing and consolidating their backend-systems. The aim is to enable them for new customer-oriented services. A primary driver for the digital transformation is the threat of a broader market entry by BigTechs. Our research provides a comprehensive overlook about the influencing factors of digital transformation using statements from experts in the field. © 2020, The Author(s)

Development of a device to simulate tooth mobility

    Get PDF
Objectives: The testing of new materials under simulation of oral conditions is essential in medicine. For simulation of fracture strength different simulation devices are used for test set-up. The results of these in vitro tests differ because there is no standardization of tooth mobility in simulation devices. The aim of this study is to develop a simulation device that depicts the tooth mobility curve as accurately as possible and creates reproducible and scalable mobility curves. Materials and methods: With the aid of published literature and with the help of dentists, average forms of tooth classes were generated. Based on these tooth data, different abutment tooth shapes and different simulation devices were designed with a CAD system and were generated with a Rapid Prototyping system. Then, for all simulation devices the displacement curves were created with a universal testing machine and compared with the tooth mobility curve. With this new information, an improved adapted simulation device was constructed. Results: A simulations device that is able to simulate the mobility curve of natural teeth with high accuracy and where mobility is reproducible and scalable was developed

Localization criteria for Anderson models on locally finite graphs

We prove spectral and dynamical localization for Anderson models on locally finite graphs using the fractional moment method. Our theorems extend earlier results on localization for the Anderson model on \ZZ^d. We establish geometric assumptions for the underlying graph such that localization can be proven in the case of sufficiently large disorder
