The non-linear evolution of bispectrum from the scale-free N-body simulation

We have accurately measured the bispectrum for four scale-free models of structure formation with the spectral index n=1n=1, 0, -1, and -2. The measurement is based on a new method that can effectively eliminate the alias and numerical artifacts, and reliably extend the analysis into the strongly non-linear regime. The work makes use of a set of state-of-the art N-body simulations that have significantly increased the resolution range compared with the previous studies on the subject. With these measured results, we demonstrated that the measured bispectrum depends on the shape and size of kk-triangle even in the strongly nonlinear regime. It increases with wavenumber and decreases with the spectral index. These results are in contrast with the hypothesis that the reduced bispectrum is a constant in the strongly non-linear regime. We also show that the fitting formula of Scoccimarro & Frieman (1999) does not describe our simulation results well (with a typical error about 40 percent). In the end, we present a new fitting formula for the reduced bispectrum that is valid for −2≤n≤0-2 \leq n \leq 0 with a typical error of 10 percent only.Comment: 33 pages, including 1 table, 14 figures, accepted by Ap

    The Method of Combinatorial Telescoping

    Get PDF
We present a method for proving q-series identities by combinatorial telescoping, in the sense that one can transform a bijection or a classification of combinatorial objects into a telescoping relation. We shall illustrate this method by giving a combinatorial proof of Watson's identity which implies the Rogers-Ramanujan identities.Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures; to appear in J. Combin. Theory Ser.

This journal issue is the Proceedings of International Conference on Smart Grid and Clean Energy Technologies (ICSGCE 2011)The exhaustion of fossil fuels and environmental degradation has aroused worldwide attention for renewable as alternative clean energy sources. Benefiting from the rapid development of photovoltaic (PV) technology, solar energy generation, as an important component of renewable energy exploitation, has been witnessing an exponential increase since the past decade. Based on the characteristics of energy distribution and electricity supply status in China, this paper summarizes the current development trends of PV implementations. The state-of-the-art PV technology, specifically the grid-connected photovoltaic system applications is discussed as well. Finally, future challenges and suggestions for PV industry are analyzed and presented © 2011 Published by Elsevier Ltd.postprintThe 2011 IEEE International Conference on Smart Grid and Clean Energy Technologies (IEEE ICSGCE 2011), Chengdu, China, 27-30 September 2011. Eruption of a multi-flux-rope system in solar active region 12673 leading to the two largest flares in Solar Cycle 24

Solar active region (AR) 12673 in 2017 September produced two largest flares in Solar Cycle 24: the X9.3 flare on September 06 and the X8.2 flare on September 10. We attempt to investigate the evolutions of the two great flares and their associated complex magnetic system in detail. Aided by the NLFFF modeling, we identify a double-decker flux rope configuration above the polarity inversion line (PIL) in the AR core region. The north ends of these two flux ropes were rooted in a negative- polarity magnetic patch, which began to move along the PIL and rotate anticlockwise before the X9.3 flare on September 06. The strong shearing motion and rotation contributed to the destabilization of the two magnetic flux ropes, of which the upper one subsequently erupted upward due to the kink-instability. Then another two sets of twisted loop bundles beside these ropes were disturbed and successively erupted within 5 minutes like a chain reaction. Similarly, multiple ejecta components were detected to consecutively erupt during the X8.2 flare occurring in the same AR on September 10. We examine the evolution of the AR magnetic fields from September 03 to 06 and find that five dipoles emerged successively at the east of the main sunspot. The interactions between these dipoles took place continuously, accompanied by magnetic flux cancellations and strong shearing motions. In AR 12673, significant flux emergence and successive interactions between the different emerging dipoles resulted in a complex magnetic system, accompanied by the formations of multiple flux ropes and twisted loop bundles. We propose that the eruptions of a multi-flux-rope system resulted in the two largest flares in Solar Cycle 24.Comment: 10 pages, 8 figures. To be published in A&

Necessary and sufficient conditions for local creation of quantum discord

We show that a local channel cannot create quantum discord (QD) for zero QD states of size d≥3d\geq3 if and only if either it is a completely decohering channel or it is a nontrivial isotropic channel. For the qubit case this propertiy is additionally characteristic to the completely decohering channel or the commutativity-preserving unital channel. In particular, the exact forms of the completely decohering channel and the commutativity-preserving unital qubit channel are proposed. Consequently, our results confirm and improve the conjecture proposed by X. Hu et al. for the case of d≥3d\geq3 and improve the result proposed by A. Streltsov et al. for the qubit case. Furthermore, it is shown that a local channel nullifies QD in any state if and only if it is a completely decohering channel. Based on our results, some protocols of quantum information processing issues associated with QD, especially for the qubit case, would be experimentally accessible.Comment: 8 page

HST and LAMOST discover a dual active galactic nucleus in J0038+4128

We report the discovery of a kiloparsec-scale dual active galactic nucleus (AGN) in J0038+4128. From the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) Wide Field Planetary Camera (WFPC2) images, we find two optical nuclei with a projection separation of 4.7 kpc (3.44 arcsec). The southern component (J0038+4128S) is spectroscopically observed with the HST Goddard High Resolution Spectrograph in the UV range and is found to be a Seyfert 1 galaxy with a broad Ly alpha emission line. The northern component (J0038+4128N) is spectroscopically observed during the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fibre Spectroscopic Telescope (also named the Guoshoujing Telescope) pilot survey in the optical range. The observed line ratios as well as the consistency of redshift of the nucleus emission lines and the host galaxy's absorption lines indicate that J0038+4128N is a Seyfert 2 galaxy with narrow lines only. These results thus confirm that J0038+4128 is a Seyfert 1-Seyfert 2 AGN pair. The HST WFPC2 F336W/U-band image of J0038+4128 also reveals for the first time for a dual AGN system two pairs of bi-symmetric arms, as are expected from the numerical simulations of such system. Being one of a few confirmed kiloparsec-scale dual AGNs exhibiting a clear morphological structure of the host galaxies, J0038+4128 provides an unique opportunity to study the co-evolution of the host galaxies and their central supermassive black holes undergoing a merging process.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, 2 tables, Accepted for publication in MNRAS Letter

Infinite Hopf family of elliptic algebras and bosonization

Elliptic current algebras E_{q,p}(\hat{g}) for arbitrary simply laced finite dimensional Lie algebra g are defined and their co-algebraic structures are studied. It is shown that under the Drinfeld like comultiplications, the algebra E_{q,p}(\hat{g}) is not co-closed for any g. However putting the algebras E_{q,p}(\hat{g}) with different deformation parameters together, we can establish a structure of infinite Hopf family of algebras. The level 1 bosonic realization for the algebra E_{q,p}(\hat{g}) is also established.Comment: LaTeX, 11 pages. This is the new and final versio
