Reverse pitch fan with divided splitter

    Get PDF
A guide vane arrangement is described for improving gas turbine performance in the reverse thrust mode. This flow straightening method produces low losses in the fluid entering a core engine during reverse thrust operations and allows large supercharging of the core engine during forward thrust

Wage and Occupational Differences Between Black and White Men: Labor Market Discrimination in the Rural South

    Get PDF
The existence of labor market discrimination based on race is well established. However, study continues into a variety of aspects of discrimination-among them the extent to which it exists in different regions. Gwartney has estimated the ratio of black to white earnings to be between .83 and .88 for the North and between .68 and .74 for the South. Masters, in a study of earnings differentials between black and white men, found a ratio of .79 for the non-South and .69 for the South. Although considerable literature has developed concerning earnings differentials, wage discrimination in rural areas is one topic which has received relatively little attention. In an attempt to eliminate this oversight this paper concentrates on the extent of wage differences between black and white men in the rural South attributable to labor market discrimination

Study made of interaction between sound fields and structural vibrations

    Get PDF
Study analyzes structural vibrations and the interactions between them and sound fields. It outlines a conceptual framework to analyze the vibrations of systems and their interactions, incorporating the results of earlier studies and establishing a unified basis for continuing research

Status Report on the Low-Energy Demonstration Accelerator (LEDA)

The 75-keV injector and 6.7-MeV RFQ that comprise the first portion of the cw, 100-mA proton linac for the accelerator production of tritium (APT) project have been built and operated. The LEDA RFQ has been extensively tested for pulsed and cw output-beam currents <=100 mA. Up to 2.2 MW of cw rf power from the 350-MHz rf system is coupled into the RFQ, including 670 kW for the cw proton beam. The emittance for a 93-mA pulsed RFQ output beam, as determined from quadrupole-magnet-scan measurements, is ex x ey = 0.25 x 0.31 (pi mm mrad)2 [rms normalized]. A follow-on experiment, to intentionally introduce and measure beam halo on the RFQ output beam, is now being installed.Comment: Paper TUD14 for the XX International Linac Conference (LINAC2000), 3 pages, 10 figure

Development and evaluation of a fault-tolerant multiprocessor (FTMP) computer. Volume 1: FTMP principles of operation

    Get PDF
The basic organization of the fault tolerant multiprocessor, (FTMP) is that of a general purpose homogeneous multiprocessor. Three processors operate on a shared system (memory and I/O) bus. Replication and tight synchronization of all elements and hardware voting is employed to detect and correct any single fault. Reconfiguration is then employed to repair a fault. Multiple faults may be tolerated as a sequence of single faults with repair between fault occurrences

Copernicus observational searches for OH and H2O in diffuse clouds

    Get PDF
An intensive search for OH and H2O in the directions of sigma Sco, alpha Cam, and micron Per was undertaken with the Copernicus satellite. Multiple scans were carried out over the wavelength region for the expected absorption features due to the OH D-X and H2O C-X transitions. The feature due to OH was detected marginally towards sigma Sco, and only an upper limit can be given towards alpha Cam. H2O was not detected in any of the stars at the signal level accumulated. The OH abundance towards sigma Sco and the respective lower limits for the OH/H2O ratios are discussed with regard to the extant models for the steady state abundances of OH and H2O, and shown not to be inconsistent with ion-molecule schemes
