Flavour structure of low-energy hadron pair photoproduction
We consider the process where and
are either mesons or baryons. The experimental findings for such quantities as
the and differential cross sections, in the energy range
currently probed, are found often to be in disparity with the scaling behaviour
expected from hard constituent scattering. We discuss the long-distance
pole--resonance contribution in understanding the origin of these phenomena, as
well as the amplitude relations governing the short-distance contribution which
we model as a scaling contribution. When considering the latter, we argue that
the difference found for the and the integrated cross
sections can be attributed to the s-channel isovector component. This
corresponds to the subprocess in the VMD
(vector-meson-dominance) language. The ratio of the two cross sections is
enhanced by the suppression of the component, and is hence constrained.
We give similar constraints to a number of other hadron pair production
channels. After writing down the scaling and pole--resonance contributions
accordingly, the direct summation of the two contributions is found to

Effect of entanglement on the decay dynamics of a pair of H(2p) atoms due to spontaneous emission
We have measured the coincidence time spectra of two Lyman-α photons emitted by a pair of H(2p) atoms in the photodissociation of H2 at the incident photon energy of 33.66 eV and at the hydrogen gas pressures of 0.40 and 0.02 Pa. The decay time constant at 0.02 Pa is approximately half the lifetime of a single H(2p) atom, 1.60 ns, while the decay time constant at 0.40 Pa is in agreement with the lifetime of a single H(2p) atom. It turns out that the decay faster than the lifetime of a single H(2p) atom originates from the entanglement in the pair of H(2p) atoms. Jet angular correlation in vector-boson fusion processes at hadron colliders
Higgs boson and massive-graviton productions in association with two jets via
vector-boson fusion (VBF) processes and their decays into a vector-boson pair
at hadron colliders are studied. They include scalar and tensor boson
production processes via weak-boson fusion in quark-quark collisions, gluon
fusion in quark-quark, quark-gluon and gluon-gluon collisions, as well as their
decays into a pair of weak bosons or virtual gluons which subsequently decay
into , or . We give the helicity amplitudes
explicitly for all the VBF subprocesses, and show that the VBF amplitudes
dominate the exact matrix elements not only for the weak-boson fusion processes
but also for all the gluon fusion processes when appropriate selection cuts are
applied, such as a large rapidity separation between two jets and a slicing cut
for the transverse momenta of the jets. We also show that our off-shell
vector-boson current amplitudes reduce to the standard quark and gluon
splitting amplitudes with appropriate gluon-polarization phases in the
collinear limit. Nontrivial azimuthal angle correlations of the jets in the
production and in the decay of massive spin-0 and -2 bosons are manifestly
expressed as the quantum interference among different helicity states of the
intermediate vector-bosons. Those correlations reflect the spin and the CP

Safely Managed On-Site Sanitation: A National Assessment of Sanitation Services and Potential Fecal Exposure in Indonesia.
Sustainable Development Goal target 6.2 calls for universal access to adequate and equitable sanitation, setting a more ambitious standard for 'safely managed sanitation services'. On-site sanitation systems (e.g., septic tanks) are widely used in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). However, the lack of indicators for assessing fecal exposure risks presents a barrier to monitoring safely managed services. Furthermore, geographic diversity and frequency of disasters require a more nuanced approach to risk-informed decision-making. Taking Indonesia as an example, the purpose of this paper is to provide insights into current status and practices for on-site sanitation services in the contexts of LMICs. Using a dataset from a national socio-economic survey (n = 295,155) coupled with village census (n = 83,931), we assessed (1) household sanitation practices across Indonesia stratified by city-level population density and meteorological factors, (2) factors associated with septic tank emptying practice, and (3) inequalities in potential fecal exposure as measured by population density and WASH access by wealth quintile. We found a high reliance on on-site sanitation facilities (80.0%), almost half of which are assumed to be 'uncontained' septic tanks and one in ten facilities discharging untreated waste directly into the environment. The most densely populated areas had the highest rates of septic tank emptying, though emptying rates were just 17.0%, while in the lowest population density group, emptying was rarely reported. Multivariate regression analysis demonstrated an association between flooding and drought occurrence and septic tank emptying practice. Higher groundwater usage for drinking among poorer households suggests unsafe sanitation may disproportionally affect the poor. Our study underscores the urgent need to strengthen the monitoring of on-site sanitation in LMICs by developing contextualized standards. Furthermore, the inequalities in potential fecal exposure require greater attention and tailored support mechanisms to ensure the poorest gain access to safely managed sanitation services
signals at LEP2 energies in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model
In this paper we compare and into four-fermion production
at centre-of-mass energies typical of LEP2 and somewhat larger. The theoretical
framework considered is the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. The interest
in exploiting the CERN collider at values of greater than
192 GeV could come from the discovery of Supersymmetric signals during runs at
lower energy. If these indicate that a charged Higgs boson exists in the mass
range \MH\approx95-105 GeV, then a few years of running at
GeV and nominal luminosity could make the detection of such scalars feasible,
in the purely leptonic channel and, for small
\tb's, also in the semi-hadronic(leptonic) one . Charged
Higgs bosons of the above nature cannot be produced by the beam energies
approved at present for LEP2. However, if runs beyond the so-called `192 GeV
cryogenic limit' will be approved by the CERN Council, our selection procedure
will enable us to establish the presence, or otherwise, of charged Higgs bosons

Jet vetoing and Herwig++
We investigate the simulation of events with gaps between jets with a veto on
additional radiation in the gap in Herwig++. We discover that the
currently-used random treatment of radiation in the parton shower is generating
some unphysical behaviour for wide-angle gluon emission in QCD 2 to 2
scatterings. We explore this behaviour quantitatively by making the same
assumptions as the parton shower in the analytical calculation. We then modify
the parton shower algorithm in order to correct the simulation of QCD
