Aquaculture Industry of Arkansas in 1979-1980
A survey of previous fish farmer certificate holders in Arkansas was conducted during 1979-1980 using renewal questionnaires, telephone conversations, and personal contacts. This survey was compared with similar surveys from preceding years. Approximately 51.0% of 12,372 intensively farmed hectares in 1979-80 were devoted to bait fish production, while 22.9% were utilized in food fish production. Aerolastic tailoring and integrated wing design
Much has been learned from the TSO optimization code over the years in determining aeroelastic tailoring's place in the integrated design process. Indeed, it has become apparent that aeroelastic tailoring is and should be deeply embedded in design. Aeroelastic tailoring can have tremendous effects on the design loads, and design loads affect every aspect of the design process. While optimization enables the evaluation of design sensitivities, valid computational simulations are required to make these sensitivities valid. Aircraft maneuvers simulated must adequately cover the plane's intended flight envelope, realistic design criteria must be included, and models among the various disciplines must be calibrated among themselves and with any hard-core (e.g., wind tunnel) data available. The information gained and benefits derived from aeroelastic tailoring provide a focal point for the various disciplines to become involved and communicate with one another to reach the best design possible
Path methods for strong shift equivalence of positive matrices
In the early 1990's, Kim and Roush developed path methods for establishing
strong shift equivalence (SSE) of positive matrices over a dense subring U of
the real numbers R. This paper gives a detailed, unified and generalized
presentation of these path methods. New arguments which address arbitrary dense
subrings U of R are used to show that for any dense subring U of R, positive
matrices over U which have just one nonzero eigenvalue and which are strong
shift equivalent over U must be strong shift equivalent over U_+. In addition,
we show positive real matrices on a path of shift equivalent positive real
matrices are SSE over R_+; positive rational matrices which are SSE over R_+
must be SSE over Q_+; and for any dense subring U of R, within the set of
positive matrices over U which are conjugate over U to a given matrix, there
are only finitely many SSE-U_+ classes.Comment: This version adds a 3-part program for studying SEE over the reals.

Conservation Laws and the Multiplicity Evolution of Spectra at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider
Transverse momentum distributions in ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions
carry considerable information about the dynamics of the hot system produced.
Direct comparison with the same spectra from collisions has proven
invaluable to identify novel features associated with the larger system, in
particular, the "jet quenching" at high momentum and apparently much stronger
collective flow dominating the spectral shape at low momentum. We point out
possible hazards of ignoring conservation laws in the comparison of high- and
low-multiplicity final states. We argue that the effects of energy and momentum
conservation actually dominate many of the observed systematics, and that
collisions may be much more similar to heavy ion collisions than generally

Using "tangibles" to promote novel forms of playful learning
Tangibles, in the form of physical artefacts that are electronically augmented and enhanced to trigger various digital events to happen, have the potential for providing innovative ways for children to play and learn, through novel forms of interacting and discovering. They offer, too, the scope for bringing playfulness back into learning. To this end, we designed an adventure game, where pairs of children have to discover as much as they can about a virtual imaginary creature called the Snark, through collaboratively interacting with a suite of tangibles. Underlying the design of the tangibles is a variety of transforms, which the children have to understand and reflect upon in order to make the Snark come alive and show itself in a variety of morphological and synaesthesic forms. The paper also reports on the findings of a study of the Snark game and discusses what it means to be engrossed in playful learning
