Hyperelliptic Solutions of KdV and KP equations: Reevaluation of Baker's Study on Hyperelliptic Sigma Functions
Explicit function forms of hyperelliptic solutions of Korteweg-de Vries (KdV)
and \break Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) equations were constructed for a given
curve whose genus is three. This study was based upon the fact
that about one hundred years ago (Acta Math. (1903) {\bf{27}}, 135-156), H. F.
Baker essentially derived KdV hierarchy and KP equation by using bilinear
differential operator , identities of Pfaffians, symmetric
functions, hyperelliptic -function and -functions; . The connection between his theory and the modern

Toda Equations and -Functions of Genera One and Two
We study the Toda equations in the continuous level, discrete level and
ultradiscrete level in terms of elliptic and hyperelliptic and
functions of genera one and two. The ultradiscrete Toda equation appears as a
discrete-valuation of recursion relations of functions.Comment: 16 page
Parametrically controlling solitary wave dynamics in modified Kortweg-de Vries equation
We demonstrate the control of solitary wave dynamics of modified Kortweg-de
Vries (MKdV) equation through the temporal variations of the distributed
coefficients. This is explicated through exact cnoidal wave and localized
soliton solutions of the MKdV equation with variable coefficients. The solitons
can be accelerated and their propagation can be manipulated by suitable
variations of the above parameters. In sharp contrast with nonlinear
Schr\"{o}dinger equation, the soliton amplitude and widths are time

Power-Gating Technique for Network-on-Chip Buffers
A new approach to reducing leakage power in network-on-chip buffers is presented. The non-uniformity of buffer utilisation is leveraged across the network and power-gating is applied to scarcely utilised buffers. Instead of turning-off the buffers completely, a buffer portion is kept turned-on. This design choice has a significant performance benefit because the buffer is always able to receive network packets. Design aspects and trade-offs in a 45 nm CMOS technology are discussed and results obtained over video application benchmarks are presented. It is shown that it is possible to reduce buffer leakage by 40% without performance penalt
Abelian functions associated with a cyclic tetragonal curve of genus six
We develop the theory of Abelian functions defined using a tetragonal curve of genus six, discussing in detail the cyclic curve y^4 = x^5 + λ[4]x^4 + λ[3]x^3 + λ[2]x^2 + λ[1]x + λ[0]. We construct Abelian functions using the multivariate sigma-function associated with the curve, generalizing the theory of theWeierstrass℘-function.
We demonstrate that such functions can give a solution to the KP-equation, outlining how a general class of solutions could be generated using a wider class of curves. We also present the associated partial differential equations
satisfied by the functions, the solution of the Jacobi inversion problem, a power series expansion for σ(u) and a new addition formula
Breather lattice and its stabilization for the modified Korteweg-de Vries equation
We obtain an exact solution for the breather lattice solution of the modified
Korteweg-de Vries (MKdV) equation. Numerical simulation of the breather lattice
demonstrates its instability due to the breather-breather interaction. However,
such multi-breather structures can be stabilized through the concurrent

The Effect of p38 Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase Activation on Inflammatory Liver Damage following Hemorrhagic Shock in Rats
Hemorrhagic shock is a frequent cause of liver failure and often leads to a fatal outcome. Several studies have revealed that p38 MAPK is a key mediator in hemorrhagic damage of the primary organs through the activation of proinflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and interleukin (IL)-1β. However, the precise role of these factors in liver damage following hemorrhagic shock is unclear. In this study, we used FR167653, a specific inhibitor of p38 MAPK phosphorylation, to examine the role of p38 MAPK in liver damage occurring up to 5 hours after a hemorrhagic episode in a rat model. Activation of p38 MAPK in the liver as well as an increase in hepatic mRNA expression and serum concentrations of TNF-α and IL-1β occurred during the early phase after hemorrhage. Increased serum levels of hepatic enzymes, as well as histological damage and activated neutrophil accumulation in the liver, were observed in the late phase following hemorrhagic shock. FR167653 inhibited the inflammation-related hepatic injury following hemorrhagic shock. Bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) derived from the gut appeared to have little effects on the hepatic damage. These results demonstrate that p38 MAPK activation is induced by hepatic ischemia during hemorrhagic shock and plays an important role both in the hepatic expression of proinflammatory cytokines and in the development of inflammation-related liver damage
Pion Absorption Cross Section for ^2H and ^3He in the Delta-Isobar Region: A Phenomenological Connection
The absorption of \pi^+ on ^3He in the -region is evaluated with
exact inclusion of the final state interaction among the three emerging
protons. The absorption is described by a vertex and a
transition t-matrix which are calculated from a phenomenological
model for NN and \pi d reactions. In a calculation where the initial pion
scattering effects are neglected, the predicted peaks of the pion absorption
cross sections for ^2H and ^3He lie too high in energy in relation to the data.
The effect of the final state three-nucleon interaction turns out to be too
small for changing the magnitude and shifting the peak position of the total
absorption cross section for ^3He. We demonstrate that the adjustment of the
peak position for the deuteron cross section by small modifications of the

Industrial associations as ideational platforms : why Japan resisted American-style shareholder capitalism
Significant wage and treatment differentials between regular workers in long-term employment and precarious non-regular workers have been a major political issue in Japan since the mid-1990s. I argue this phenomenon was caused by Japanese society’s resistance to American neoliberal hegemony. Why has Japan resisted it, and how has the resistance resulted in the rapid increase in the working poor? I contend anti-liberal, anti-free market norms of Japanese society centred on ‘systemic support’ have bolstered resistance to convergence in order to prevent capitalist dominance from severing long-term social ties, such as management-labour cooperation. My broadened definition of systemic support incorporates dominant elites’ support and protection of subordinates in exchange for their loyalty and obedience. This paper will explore reasons for the resistance to convergence by examining an ideational conflict within Japanese elites between the market liberalisation and anti-free market camps, particularly between two major industrial associations, Keidanren and Keizai Doyukai, which have played a key role as ‘ideational platforms’ for Japanese corporate society. Under the Hashimoto (1996-8) and Koizumi (2001-6) administrations, the market liberalisation camp gained influence, but since 2006, both the anti-free market camp and its subordinates (e.g. regular workers) have driven anti-neoliberal backlash
