ObjectiveTo report the incidence of radiation pneumonitis after radioembolization.MethodsIn this retrospective study, from May 2009 to July 2021, 782 consecutive patients underwent radioembolization in two institutes. Medical internal radiation dose dosimetry and partition dosimetry were used for glass and resin Yttrium-90-labeled microspheres (90Y-microspheres), respectively. Medical records and radiological findings were retrospectively evaluated with emphasis on the symptomatic radiation pneumonitis.ResultsOf the 732 patients with lung shunt study and follow-up, 13 (1.8%) had symptomatic radiation pneumonitis and six patients died due to radiation pneumonitis. Of the 721 patients whose lung doses were calculated, 10 patients who were treated with glass (n = 5) and resin (n = 5) 90Y-microspheres had radiation pneumonitis. No significant statistical difference between glass and resin 90Y-microspheres (p = 0.304) was noted in terms of radiation pneumonitis incidence. Among the patients with radiation pneumonitis, all five patients treated with glass 90Y-microspheres had estimated lung doses > 29 Gy, whereas five patients treated with resin 90Y-microspheres had relatively wide range of lung dose reaching much lower value (13.21Gy).ConclusionThe present study suggests that radiation pneumonitis after radioembolization may occur even though the manufacturer’s instructions are followed

A Case of Nasal NK T-Cell Lymphoma Presenting With Persistent Epiphora

Nasal type natural killer/T-cell lymphoma (NNKTL) is a rare and aggressive subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma originating from a natural killer cell or γδ T cell infected by the Epstein-Barr virus. It usually invades the aerodigestive tract and can rapidly destroy the paranasal sinus, hard palate, and central nervous system. NNKTL is often mistaken for benign conditions such as chronic hypertrophic rhinosinusitis or mucosal inflammatory change, as endoscopic findings of NNKTL presenting nasal mucosal hypertrophy are similar to endoscopic findings for these abovementioned benign conditions. Here, the authors report the diagnosis and examination of NNKTL in a 58-year-old male patient who visited our clinic for nasal cavity discomfort after he underwent a dacryocystorhinostomy to treat dacryocystitis

A Case of Primary Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma of the Maxillary Sinus Presenting as Epiphora

Primary sinusoidal non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL) is a very rare disease. The main symptoms of sinusoidal NHL are rhinorrhea, nasal obstruction, and post-nasal drip. Symptoms such as eye protrusion, diplopia, trismus, and periorbital pain can also occur. Epiphora is a very rare symptom of sinusoidal NHL, which can lead to a misdiagnosis of dacryocystitis or dacryostenosis. The authors report the case of a 46-year-old female patient who visited hospital for symptoms of epiphora, which did not improve even after 3 months of eye treatment, leading to a final diagnosis of maxillary NHL

Percutaneous cryoablation in early stage hepatocellular carcinoma: analysis of local tumor progression factors

PURPOSEWe aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of percutaneous cryoablation (PC) for early or very early stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and assess the risk factors for local tumor progression (LTP) after PC.METHODSA total of 45 treatment-naïve patients treated with PC for early or very early stage HCCs were included in this retrospective study. The safety of PC was assessed by evaluating procedure-related complications and comparing hepatic function before and after the procedure. The effectiveness was assessed by evaluating technical success, LTP rates, and disease progression (DP) rates. Prognostic factors associated with LTP after PC were also analyzed.RESULTSTechnical success and complete response were achieved in all patients (100%) by 1 month after PC. During a mean of 28.1±15.6 months of follow-up, the incidences of LTP and DP were 11.1% and 37.8%, respectively. The LTP-free and DP-free survival rates were 93.3% and 84.4% at 1 year and 88.9% and 62.2% at 2 years, respectively. Hepatic function was normalized within 3 months after PC. There were no major complications and only one minor complication of small hematoma. On univariate and multivariate analysis, minimal ablative margin <5 mm was the only significant risk factor associated with LTP.CONCLUSIONPC is a safe and effective therapy for patients with early or very early stage HCC. Minimal ablative margin <5 mm was a significant prognostic factor for LTP

Hysteroscopic Resection of the Vaginal Septum in Uterus Didelphys with Obstructed Hemivagina: A Case Report

Uterus didelphys with obstructed hemivagina and ipsilateral renal agenesis is a rare congenital anomaly. Excision of the obstructed vaginal septum is the treatment of choice for symptom relief and the preservation of reproductive capability. A 14-yr-old girl complained of persistent vaginal spotting following each menstruation. Pelvic magnetic resonance imaging revealed a uterus didelphys with left hematocolpos and ipsilateral renal agenesis. Instead of conventional transvaginal excision of the vaginal septum, we used hysteroscopic excision under transabdominal ultrasonographic guidance to preserve the integrity of the hymen. The postoperative course was uneventful, and clinical symptoms were completely resolved after this intervention. Resectoscopic excision of the vaginal septum was found to be easy, safe, effective, and appropriate for young women as it preserved hymen integrity. We believe that this is the first Korean report on the use of a hysteroscopy for vaginal septum resection in a patient with uterus didelphys with obstructed hemivagina

Effect of Metal Door On Indoor Radio Channel

This paper reports the variation of indoor radio channel caused by metal door. The simulation results using the Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) method and measurement results using the vector network analyzer in frequency domain are used for the characterization of received signal strength variation by metal door. Target frequency bands are three - sensor band, 802.11b ISM band, and 802.11a UNII band. From the simulation and measurement results, the effect of door angle to the received signal strength in three frequency bands and effect of radio frequency to variation are investigated. And, FDTD simulation parameters for different environments are suggested
