    The Impacts Of Network Governance On The Erformance Of Ito: A Study Of Taiwanese Firms

    Information technology outsourcing (ITO) has been a topic of great interest, one that organization researchers have studied extensively. Previous studies have suggested that ITO research has expanded from one organization and bilateral partnerships to a network form of organization that links multiple organizations and spans inter-organizational boundaries. Yet, little research has been conducted on the link between network governance and ITO performance as a way to understand an organization’s ITO efforts. This study proposes a model that employs several constructs: inter-organization coordination, contractual governance and relational governance, and technological hegemony. The model explores the mediating roles of these governance mechanisms and the moderating role of technological hegemony as it influences the IT manager’s perception of the performance of ITO. Empirical testing of the model is based on a sample of 191 companies from Taiwanese industries. The results support the mediating effect of relational governance and the moderating effect of technological hegemony. The implications of these findings for ITO management are discussed

    Improving the Performance of the Wireless Data Broadcast by the Cyclic Indexing Schemes

    Abstract. Wireless data broadcast is an effective approach to disseminate information to a massive number of users. Indexing techniques for broadcasting data can reduce the battery power consumptions of mobile terminals by decreasing the tuning time. The organization of the indexes affects the efficiency of data searching. We investigate how the degree of the index node affects the tuning time, and thus minimize the power c o n s u mp t i o n o f u s e r ' s terminals. We proposed a performance measurement for the tuning time and a cyclic indexing algorithm. The numerical results suggest the degree of an index node be 3 when the access probabilities of the data tend to be uniformly distributed so that the expected tuning time is minimal. When the access distribution of the data nodes is skewer, the tuning time can be minimized by setting the degree in the index node 2

    Effect of a novel telehealth device for dietary cognitive behavioral intervention in overweight or obesity care

    Abstract Obesity has become a major public health issue which relate to numerous physical problems and highly comorbid with depression and anxiety. Recently, some studies of technology-based interventions for weight reduction emerged to overcome the barriers from time, cost and distance. Mood component and eating behavior related to obesity are less discussed so far with technology-based intervention though. This pilot study was aimed to investigate the effect of telehealth assisted intervention on weight reduction, mood status, and eating behavior change under a smartphone application (app) with novel 3D food picture recognition and incorporated with cognitive behavioral training programs. Adult aged 30–60 years old with overweight were recruited and randomly assigned to control-first group and intervention-first group. In period 1, control-first group had regular life and intervention-first group underwent app intervention; in period 2, two groups went crossover. Body composition and psychological/behavioral questionnaires were collected at baseline, end of period 1, and end of period 2. Nonparametric statistics was performed for data analyzing. A total of 20 participants were enrolled. In control-first group, there were statistically significant reduction in body weight (− 0.55 kg, p = 0.02) and change of body weight percentage (− 0.6%, p = 0.02) after App use. In intervention-first group, the fat percentage decreased by 0.4% after App use in period 1, and increased by 0.05% in period 2. The integrated crossover data revealed that subjects of App group had significant improvements in mindful eating behavior. This pilot study showed the effectiveness in using CogniNU app for weight control and eating behavior. The difference of short-term and long-term effectiveness of technology-based weight control intervention deserves more investigation in the future. Clinical Trial Registration: ISRCTN16082909

    Chronic N-Acetylcysteine Treatment Prevents Amphetamine-Induced Hyperactivity in Heterozygous Disc1 Mutant Mice, a Putative Prodromal Schizophrenia Animal Model

    Symptoms of schizophrenia (SZ) typically emerge during adolescence to young adulthood, which gives a window before full-blown psychosis for early intervention. Strategies for preventing the conversion from the prodromal phase to the psychotic phase are warranted. Heterozygous (Het) Disc1 mutant mice are considered a prodromal model of SZ, suitable for studying psychotic conversion. We evaluated the preventive effect of chronic N-acetylcysteine (NAC) administration, covering the prenatal era to adulthood, on the reaction following the Amph challenge, which mimics the outbreak or conversion of psychosis, in adult Het Disc1 mice. Biochemical and morphological features were examined in the striatum of NAC-treated mice. Chronic NAC treatment normalized the Amph-induced activity in the Het Disc1 mice. Furthermore, the striatal phenotypes of Het Disc1 mice were rescued by NAC including dopamine receptors, the expression of GSK3s, MSN dendritic impairments, and striatal PV density. The current study demonstrated a potent preventive effect of chronic NAC treatment in Disc1 Het mice on the acute Amph test, which mimics the outbreak of psychosis. Our findings not only support the benefit of NAC as a dietary supplement for SZ prodromes, but also advance our knowledge of striatal dopamine receptors, PV neurons, and GSK3 signaling pathways as therapeutic targets for treating or preventing the pathogenesis of mental disorders
