Estimating process capability index Cpm using a bootstrap sequential sampling procedure
Construction of a confidence interval for process capability index CPM is often based on a normal approximation with fixed sample size. In this article, we describe a different approach in constructing a fixed-width confidence interval for process capability index CPM with a preassigned accuracy by using a combination of bootstrap and sequential sampling schemes. The optimal sample size required to achieve a preassigned confidence level is obtained using both two-stage and modified two-stage sequential procedures. The procedure developed is also validated using an extensive simulation study.<br /

Boric acid vaginal suppositories: a brief review.
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to determine the utility of serum CA125 determinations in diagnosing acute salpingitis. METHODS: CA125 levels were determined for 34 women with the clinical diagnosis of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). Acute salpingitis was confirmed laparoscopically in 28 women (82.3%). RESULTS: Twenty patients (71.4%) with laparoscopically confirmed acute salpingitis had CA125 levels greater than 7.5 units, compared with no patients (0/6) with laparoscopically normal tubes (P = 0.002). The degree of elevation of CA125 levels correlated with the severity of tubal inflammation noted at laparoscopy. All patients with levels above 16 units had laparoscopically severe salpingitis. CONCLUSIONS: We conclude that while CA125 levels above 7.5 units may modestly improve the ability of the clinical diagnosis of PID to accurately reflect visually confirmed acute salpingitis, limitations of the test make its clinical utility questionable
Quasi-normal modes of charged, dilaton black holes
In this paper we study the perturbations of the charged, dilaton black hole,
described by the solution of the low energy limit of the superstring action
found by Garfinkle, Horowitz and Strominger. We compute the complex frequencies
of the quasi-normal modes of this black hole, and compare the results with
those obtained for a Reissner-Nordstr\"{o}m and a Schwarzschild black hole. The
most remarkable feature which emerges from this study is that the presence of
the dilaton breaks the \emph{isospectrality} of axial and polar perturbations,
which characterizes both Schwarzschild and Reissner-Nordstr\"{o}m black holes.Comment: 15 pages, 5 figure

What do people do with porn? qualitative research into the consumption, use and experience of pornography and other sexually explicit media
This article reviews qualitative research into the consumption of pornography and other sexually explicit media emerging from a range of subject areas. Taking a critique of quantitative methods and a focus on measuring sexual effects and attitudes as a starting point, it considers the proposition that qualitative work is more suited to an examination of the complex social, cultural and political constructions of sexuality. Examining studies into the way men, women and young people see, experience, and use explicit media texts, the article identifies the key findings that have emerged. Qualitative work shows that sexuality explicit media texts are experienced and understood in a variety of ways and evoke strong and often contradictory reactions, not all of which are represented in public debates about pornography. These texts function in a range of different ways, depending on context; as a source of knowledge, a resource for intimate practices, a site for identity construction, and an occasion for performing gender and sexuality. The article reviews these studies and their findings, identifying what they suggest about directions for future research, both in terms of developing methodology and refining approaches to sexuality and media consumption.</p
Detection of a flow induced magnetic field eigenmode in the Riga dynamo facility
In an experiment at the Riga sodium dynamo facility, a slowly growing
magnetic field eigenmode has been detected over a period of about 15 seconds.
For a slightly decreased propeller rotation rate, additional measurements
showed a slow decay of this mode. The measured results correspond satisfactory
with numerical predictions for the growth rates and frequencies
Implementation of Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) in school and community gardens
Interest in school and community gardens has increased over the past decade as a method to connect students and communities with food production. Although data on gardens as a source for foodborne illness is scarce, growing practices and settings are similar to those in small-scale commercial production. The objectives of this study were to (1) create a set of evidence-based best practices for gardens based on established food safety guidance for fresh produce, (2) create an intervention for delivery, and (3) evaluate the effectiveness of the practices. The guidelines were designed to impact garden organizer and volunteer behavior as well as organizational infrastructure regarding site selection, soil testing, handwashing, water, composting, garden design and fencing, sanitation, and volunteer management. School and community gardens (n = SO, 10 of each] were visited twice, using a pre-post design, and a risk-based observation instrument was administered. Sixteen gardens (80%) improved their overall scores. While the findings demonstrated that handwashing behavior could be altered significantly (P < 0.01) through the provision of the designed intervention, they also suggest a suitable means to take steps toward a safer garden
A sufficient criterion for integrability of stochastic many-body dynamics and quantum spin chains
We propose a dynamical matrix product ansatz describing the stochastic
dynamics of two species of particles with excluded-volume interaction and the
quantum mechanics of the associated quantum spin chains respectively. Analyzing
consistency of the time-dependent algebra which is obtained from the action of
the corresponding Markov generator, we obtain sufficient conditions on the
hopping rates for identifing the integrable models. From the dynamical algebra
we construct the quadratic algebra of Zamolodchikov type, associativity of
which is a Yang Baxter equation. The Bethe ansatz equations for the spectra are
obtained directly from the dynamical matrix product ansatz.Comment: 19 pages Late
Determinant representation for some transition probabilities in the TASEP with second class particles
We study the transition probabilities for the totally asymmetric simple
exclusion process (TASEP) on the infinite integer lattice with a finite, but
arbitrary number of first and second class particles. Using the Bethe ansatz we
present an explicit expression of these quantities in terms of the Bethe wave
function. In a next step it is proved rigorously that this expression can be
written in a compact determinantal form for the case where the order of the
first and second class particles does not change in time. An independent
geometrical approach provides insight into these results and enables us to
generalize the determinantal solution to the multi-class TASEP.Comment: Minor revision; journal reference adde
