This paper demonstrates that there exist several different types of networks in the "interjacent marsh" between markets and hierarchies. Depending on the base of resource configuration and co-operation (task dimension), power characteristics and mechanisms for controlling opportunism (people dimension), and both the ability and need for change and flexibility (change dimension), these different types of networks may be identified.
