Application of stratified emulsion splitting technology in highly hard nuclear cataract surgery
AIM:To explore safety and effectiveness of stratified emulsion splitting technology in highly hard nuclear cataract ultrasonic emulsification. METHODS: Totally 43 cases(47 eyes)of highly hard nuclear cataract was performed cataract extraction combined IOL implantation with stratified emulsion splitting cataract ultrasonic emulsification technology. RESULTS:Postoperative visual acuity 1 day, 1 week and 1 month best-corrected visual acuity ≥0.5 was accounted for 70.21%, 87.23% and 89.36%. Intraoperative capsule rupture was found in 2 eyes. Corneal mild edema was found in 7 eyes(14.89%)after the first l day post-operation. CONCLUSION:Stratified emulsion splitting technique has a practical application with little tissue damage, low capsular rupture rate and few complications for highly hard nuclear cataract patients and can bring a desirable outcome
An hourglass model for the flare of HST-1 in M87
To explain the multi-wavelength light curves (from radio to X-ray) of HST-1
in the M87 jet, we propose an hourglass model that is a modified two-zone
system of Tavecchio & Ghisellini (hereafter TG08): a slow hourglass-shaped or
Laval nozzle-shaped layer connected by two revolving exponential surfaces
surrounding a fast spine, through which plasma blobs flow. Based on the
conservation of magnetic flux, the magnetic field changes along the axis of the
hourglass. We adopt the result of TG08---the high-energy emission from GeV to
TeV can be produced through inverse Compton by the two-zone system, and the
photons from radio to X-ray are mainly radiated by the fast inner zone system.
Here, we only discuss the light curves of the fast inner blob from radio to
X-ray. When a compressible blob travels down the axis of the first bulb in the
hourglass, because of magnetic flux conservation, its cross section experiences
an adiabatic compression process, which results in particle acceleration and
the brightening of HST-1. When the blob moves into the second bulb of the
hourglass, because of magnetic flux conservation, the dimming of the knot
occurs along with an adiabatic expansion of its cross section. A similar broken
exponential function could fit the TeV peaks in M87, which may imply a
correlation between the TeV flares of M87 and the light curves from radio to
X-ray in HST-1. The Very Large Array (VLA) 22 GHz radio light curve of HST-1
verifies our prediction based on the model fit to the main peak of the VLA 15
GHz radio light curve.Comment: 14 pages, 2 figures, accepted for publication in A

Donor Bone Marrow-Derived T Cells Inhibit GVHD Induced by Donor Lymphocyte Infusion in Established Mixed Allogeneic Hematopoietic Chimeras
Delayed administration of donor lymphocyte infusion (DLI) to established mixed chimeras has been shown to achieve anti-tumor responses without graft-vs.-host disease (GVHD). Herein we show that de novo donor BM-derived T cells that are tolerant of the recipients are important in preventing GVHD in mixed chimeras receiving delayed DLI. Mixed chimeras lacking donor BM-derived T cells developed significantly more severe GVHD than those with donor BM-derived T cells after DLI, even though both groups had comparable levels of total T cells at the time of DLI. Post-DLI depletion of donor BM-derived T cells in mixed chimeras, as late as 20 days after DLI, also provoked severe GVHD. Although both CD4 and CD8 T cells contributed to the protection, the latter were significantly more effective, suggesting that inhibition of GVHD was not mainly mediated by CD4 regulatory T cells. The lack of donor BM-derived T cells was associated with markedly increased accumulation of DLI-derived alloreactive T cells in parenchymal GVHD target tissues. Thus, donor BM-derived T cells are an important factor in determining the risk of GVHD and therefore, offer a potential therapeutic target for preventing and ameliorating GVHD in the setting of delayed DLI in established mixed chimeras
Miniaturization of Branch-Line Coupler Using Composite Right/Left-Handed Transmission Lines with Novel Meander-shaped-slots CSSRR
A novel compact-size branch-line coupler using composite right/left-handed transmission lines is proposed in this paper. In order to obtain miniaturization, composite right/left-handed transmission lines with novel complementary split single ring resonators which are realized by loading a pair of meander-shaped-slots in the split of the ring are designed. This novel coupler occupies only 22.8% of the area of the conventional approach at 0.7 GHz. The proposed coupler can be implemented by using the standard printed-circuit-board etching processes without any implementation of lumped elements and via-holes, making it very useful for wireless communication systems. The agreement between measured and stimulated results validates the feasible configuration of the proposed coupler
