Chiral rings and GSO projection in Orbifolds

The GSO projection in the twisted sector of orbifold background is sometimes subtle and incompatible descriptions are found in literatures. Here, from the equivalence of partition functions in NSR and GS formalisms, we give a simple rule of GSO projection for the chiral rings of string theory in \C^r/\Z_n, r=1,2,3r=1,2,3. Necessary constructions of chiral rings are given by explicit mode analysis.Comment: 24 page

Development of Large area Gamma-ray Camera with GSO(Ce) Scintillator Arrays and PSPMTs

We have developed a position-sensitive scintillation camera with a large area absorber for use as an advanced Compton gamma-ray camera. At first we tested GSO(Ce) crystals. We compared light output from the GSO(Ce) crystals under various conditions: the method of surface polishing, the concentration of Ce, and co-doping Zr. As a result, we chose the GSO(Ce) crystals doped with only 0.5 mol% Ce, and its surface polished by chemical etching as the scintillator of our camera. We also made a 16×\times16 cm2^2 scintillation camera which consisted of 9 position-sensitive PMTs (PSPMTs Hamamatsu flat-panel H8500), the each of which had 8×\times8 anodes with a pitch of 6 mm and coupled to 8×\times8 arrays of pixelated 6×6×\times6\times13 mm3^3 GSO(Ce) scintillators. For the readout system of the 576 anodes of the PMTs, we used chained resistors to reduce the number of readout channels down to 48 to reduce power consumption. The camera has a position resolution of less than 6mm and a typical energy resolution of 10.5% (FWHM) at 662 keV at each pixel in a large area of 16×\times16 cm2^2. %to choose the best scintillator for our project. Furthermore we constructed a 16×\times16 array of 3×3×\times3\times13 mm3^3 pixelated GSO(Ce) scintillators, and glued it to a PMT H8500. This camera had the position resolution of less than 3mm, over an area of 5×\times5 cm2^2, except for some of the edge pixels; the energy resolution was typically 13% (FWHM) at 662 keV.Comment: Proceedings of PSD7 appear in NIM

On Gauge Equivalence of Tachyon Solutions in Cubic Neveu-Schwarz String Field Theory

Simple analytic solution to cubic Neveu-Schwarz String Field Theory including the GSO()GSO(-) sector is presented. This solution is an analog of the Erler-Schnabl solution for bosonic case and one of the authors solution for the pure GSO(+)GSO(+) case. Gauge transformations of the new solution to others known solutions for the NSNS string tachyon condensation are constructed explicitly. This gauge equivalence manifestly supports the early observed fact that these solutions have the same value of the action density.Comment: 8 pages, LaTe

Kinetics of lycopene degradation in sunflower and grape seed oils

The stability of lycopene in two vegetable oils, sunflower seed oil (SSO) and grape seed oil (GSO), was investigated by analyzing the carotenoid degradation kinetics in the temperature range of 10–40°C. A tomato oleoresin containing 6% (w/w) of lycopene was used to prepare lycopene-enriched oil samples. Analysis of kinetic data showed that lycopene degradation follows first-order kinetics, with an apparent activation energy of 70.7 kJ mol–1 in SSO and 69 kJ mol–1 in GSO. The estimated half-life of lycopene was found to depend on oil type and storage temperature. At 20°C, it varied between 59 and 122 days, while at 4°C it was comprised between 302 and 650 days. At all temperatures, lycopene was more stable in SSO than in GSO, which is likely due to the higher content of antioxidant compounds in SSO

The potential of generic social outcomes in promoting the positive impact of the public library: Evidence from the National year of reading in Yorkshire

    Get PDF
Objective - To present the development, planning and implementation of a qualitative research project on the impact of National Year of Reading in Yorkshire. Methods - Generic Social Outcomes (GSO) were used to develop a theoretical framework. Data were gathered via in-depth interviews and focus groups with National Year of Reading (NYR) steering group partners in Calderdale and North Lincolnshire, selected as the two case study authorities. The use of MAXQDA computer-assisted qualitative data analysis software (CAQDAS) enabled data and coding structures to be stored and facilitated comparison in this longitudinal study. Results - The findings using the GSO framework show considerable evidence of NYR related activities in supporting the three first-tier social outcomes: 'Stronger and Safer Communities', 'Health and Well-Being' and 'Strengthening Public Life.' Conclusion - The GSO framework can be used by practitioners to help provide evidence for how public libraries contribute to diverse agendas and demonstrate their value to the community. Public library authorities can use this evidence for planning and for advocacy with a range of audiences including local and central government. © 2012 Rankin

Indonesian Non-GSO Satellites: Current Operations and Future Predictions

    Get PDF
Indonesian satellite operations are mainly known for the operation of geostationary orbit (GSO) satellites for telecommunication missions. In the last decade, however, the activities of non-GSO satellites in Indonesia are significantly increasing. Therefore, the objectives of this research are to find out the cause of the growth and to predict the future operation of non-GSO satellites in Indonesia. For such purpose, review on the operation of non-GSO satellites in the past and now was done. Analysis on the characteristics of their missions, owners/operators, and technical characteristics of the satellites were done. Literature studies on the global trends and their defining strategic environments were also done to complete the insight. The study shows that increase in the use of non-GSO satellites is caused by the growth in remote sensing application, M2M application, and development of LAPAN’s satellites. In the future, the growth of non-GSO remote sensing satellite is predicted to be caused by the same reason. The increase in the use of non-GSO telecommunication satellites, however, will be affected more by the new global trend. The increase in non-GSO remote sensing satellites does not affect significantly on the needs of frequency and ground stations. The increase in the non-GSO telecommunication satellites, however, needs significant additional frequency allocations and ground stations

Free Fermionic Heterotic Model Building and Root Systems

We consider an alternative derivation of the GSO Projection in the free fermionic construction of the weakly coupled heterotic string in terms of root systems, as well as the interpretation of the GSO Projection in this picture. We then present an algorithm to systematically and efficiently generate input sets (i.e. basis vectors) in order to study Landscape statistics with minimal computational cost. For example, the improvement at order 6 is approximately 10^{-13} over a traditional brute force approach, and improvement increases with order. We then consider an example of statistics on a relatively simple class of models.Comment: Standard Latex, 12 page
