Grimmia nevadense, a new species from California

In November 1999. during a field trip along the eastern slopes of the Californian Sierra Nevada, at five different localities a Grimmia species was found that, with some doubt, was identified as Grimmia mariniana Sayre. Recent comparison with fresh material of this species, and with the type specimen, revealed that the Sierra Nevada plants differ in sporophytic as well as in gametophytic characters. As a result of this, it is described and illustrated as Grimmia nevadense H.C. Greven, spec. nov

De verspreiding van het Grimmietum orbicularis (Allorge 1922) Marstaller 1980 in Nederland

Grimmia orbicularis is a saxicolous moss species. In 1990 it was discovered on free standing, concrete bunkers in the western part of the Netherlands. These bunkers were built in 1939 as part of the Dutch war defence. The species was growing on south-west to south-east facing, slanting roofs. Nearly all of the plants were fertile, growing together with other species of the Grimmietum orbicularis association

Synopsis of Grimmia Hedw. in Australia

The Australian Grimmia Hedw. specimens from BM, BRI, CANB, CBG, HO, MEL, MELU, NSW and PERTH have been revised and a bryological trip to the Australian Alps was made to study specimens in their natural habitats. As a result of the revision and field trip, G. anodon, G. australis, G. longirostris, G. macroperichaetialis and G. reflexidens were added to the moss flora.
