Sexual Racism in an Online Gay Community: How Race, Gender and Body-Type Construct Desire and Impact Lives

Past literature examining race and sexuality has revealed the ways the two intersect to construct racial bodies in sexually stereotypical ways on and offline. Still, while these studies have made tremendous contributions to the field, they have lacked strong theoretical grounding, often settling on terms like prejudice, and stereotyping to describe phenomenon more accurately explained through the lens of structural and systemic racism. Similarly, sexuality studies have often been restrained in their assessment of racism in regards to sexuality, often assigning greater autonomy to sexual minorities but absolving them of their role in the maintenance of systemic racial domination. This project builds on prior studies by also investigating the intersections of race and sexuality online by means of Systemic Racism Theory and the Sexual Fields, synthesizing both into a theory of Sexual Racism. A goal of this project is to explore sexual racism within the website for men who have sex with men called Adam4adam.com. In doing this, another goal is to explore the parameters of sexual racism theory and their impact on sexual health behaviors and negotiations. Sexual Racism theory includes four parameters. These parameters include; 1) the role of the owner and creators of the website being analyzed and how they establish the sexual field that perpetuates racism within it, 2) the racial hierarchy of desire established via sexual racism that sets the Ideal White Male Archetype (IWMA) as the most desired male atop the hierarchy and other deviations of this archetype below, with varying degrees of erotic capital distributed throughout, 3) an accompanying ideology of preference that justifies sexual racism and, 4) the resulting impact of sexual racism on the lives of the men impacted by it, such as increased sexual risk behavior and targeting by White men towards men of color. Taken together, the theory seeks to explain the way race and racism along with sex and sexuality intersect online and impact the lives of those found least sexually desirable

The goal of this chapter is to present three kind of thin films for the materials, done by Chemical Bath Deposition technique, the materials are CdS, PbS and CuS. The characterization has been diversified, but consisting mainly X-ray Diffraction (XRD) giving hexagonal, cubic and amorphous structures of CdS, PbS and CuS respectively. The Raman dispersion let to found the characteristics peaks of vibration, one for the CdS located on 300.7 cm−1, three for PbS and two more for the CuS. We use X-rays Photoelectron Spectroscopy to formalize the chemical composition analysis, from this analysis we could to proof the high purity of the chemical bath deposition method in the materials preparation. We used UV-Vis Spectroscopy to determine simple optical responses, getting the biggest transmittances of 72% for CdS, 45% for PbS, and 80% for CuS, and direct energy band gaps of 2.47 eV for CdS, 1.78 eV for CuS as ground and with thermic annealing 2.45 eV which is believed result of amorphous to crystalline morphology changes, the indirect bandgap 0.94 eV is measured too. The AFM given information about the surface morphology and roughness, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) micrography shows the polycrystallinity nature of the CuS including the smooth

Agricultura y pobreza en República Dominicana

    Get PDF

Studying the laws of software evolution in a long-lived FLOSS project

    Get PDF
ome free, open-source software projects have been around for quite a long time, the longest living ones dating from the early 1980s. For some of them, detailed information about their evolution is available in source code management systems tracking all their code changes for periods of more than 15 years. This paper examines in detail the evolution of one of such projects, glibc, with the main aim of understanding how it evolved and how it matched Lehman's laws of software evolution. As a result, we have developed a methodology for studying the evolution of such long-lived projects based on the information in their source code management repository, described in detail several aspects of the history of glibc, including some activity and size metrics, and found how some of the laws of software evolution may not hold in this cas

The physiological process to counteract environmental stress are extremely diverse in marine species that inhabit intertidal zones. Ecological approaches have demonstrated a variety of adaptations among narrowly distributed species. The present study is focused on physiological responses of two key marine gastropods from Atlantic Patagonia living in one of the most stressful intertidal rocky shores of the world: Tegula patagonica and Trophon geversianus. We evaluated the body temperature and its heat-shock response by Hsp70 expression. Our results suggest that T. geversianus, inhabiting the mid-intertidal zone and exposed for longer to aerial conditions, presents better physiological and behavioral adaptations to temperature than T. patagonica, living in the low intertidal with less physical stress. Tegula patagonica seems to have an inefficient thermal defense, an inability to upregulate Hsp70 expression against water temperature increase. Contrariwise, a significant upregulation of Hsp70 was registered in T. geversianus added to a protective behavior of hiding during periods of high temperature. These results will be useful as a reference for monitoring sentinel species to assess real-time changes in coastal intertidal communities due to global warming. The evolution of the laws of software evolution. A discussion based on a systematic literature review

    Get PDF
After more than 40 years of life, software evolution should be considered as a mature field. However, despite such a long history, many research questions still remain open, and controversial studies about the validity of the laws of software evolution are common. During the first part of these 40 years the laws themselves evolved to adapt to changes in both the research and the software industry environments. This process of adaption to new paradigms, standards, and practices stopped about 15 years ago, when the laws were revised for the last time. However, most controversial studies have been raised during this latter period. Based on a systematic and comprehensive literature review, in this paper we describe how and when the laws, and the software evolution field, evolved. We also address the current state of affairs about the validity of the laws, how they are perceived by the research community, and the developments and challenges that are likely to occur in the coming years
