IAC user manual
The User Manual for the Integrated Analysis Capability (IAC) Level 1 system is presented. The IAC system currently supports the thermal, structures, controls and system dynamics technologies, and its development is influenced by the requirements for design/analysis of large space systems. The system has many features which make it applicable to general problems in engineering, and to management of data and software. Information includes basic IAC operation, executive commands, modules, solution paths, data organization and storage, IAC utilities, and module implementation
Towards violation of Born's rule: description of a simple experiment
Recently a new model with hidden variables of the wave type was elaborated,
so called prequantum classical statistical field theory (PCSFT). Roughly
speaking PCSFT is a classical signal theory applied to a special class of
signals -- "quantum systems". PCSFT reproduces successfully all probabilistic
predictions of QM, including correlations for entangled systems. This model
peacefully coexists with all known no-go theorems, including Bell's theorem. In
our approach QM is an approximate model. All probabilistic predictions of QM
are only (quite good) approximations of "real physical averages". The latter
are averages with respect to fluctuations of prequantum fields. In particular,
Born's rule is only an approximate rule. More precise experiments should
demonstrate its violation. We present a simple experiment which has to produce
statistical data violating Born's rule. Since the PCSFT-presentation of this
experiment may be difficult for experimenters, we reformulate consequences of
PCSFT in terms of the conventional wave function. In general, deviation from
Born's rule is rather small. We found an experiment amplifying this deviation.

Impingement of Water Droplets on an Ellipsoid with Fineness Ratio 5 in Axisymmetric Flow
The presence of radomes and instruments that are sensitive to water films or ice formations in the nose section of all-weather aircraft and missiles necessitates a knowledge of the droplet impingement characteristics of bodies of revolution. Because it is possible to approximate many of these bodies with an ellipsoid of revolution, droplet trajectories about an ellipsoid of revolution with a fineness ratio of 5 were computed for incompressible axisymmetric air flow. From the computed droplet trajectories, the following impingement characteristics of the ellipsoid surface were obtained and are presented in terms of dimensionless parameters: (1) total rate of water impingement, (2) extent of droplet impingement zone, (3) distribution of impinging water, and (4) local rate of water impingement
Disentanglement and decoherence in two-spin and three-spin systems under dephasing
We compare disentanglement and decoherence rates within two-spin and
three-spin entangled systems subjected to all possible combinations of local
and collective pure dephasing noise combinations. In all cases, the bipartite
entanglement decay rate is found to be greater than or equal to the
dephasing-decoherence rates and often significantly greater. This sharpens
previous results for two-spin systems [T. Yu and J. H. Eberly Phys. Rev. B 68,
165322 (2003)] and extends them to the three-spin context.Comment: 17 page
Developmental design, fabrication, and test of acoustic suppressors for fans of high bypass turbofan engines
An analysis procedure was developed for design of acoustically treated nacelles for high bypass turbofan engines. The plan was applied to the conceptual design of a nacelle for the quiet engine typical of a 707/DC-8 airplane installation. The resultant design was modified to a test nacelle design for the NASA Lewis quiet fan. The acoustic design goal was a 10 db reduction in effective perceived fan noise levels during takoff and approach. Detailed nacelle designs were subsequently developed for both the quiet engine and the quiet fan. The acoustic design goal for each nacelle was 15 db reductions in perceived fan noise levels from the inlet and fan duct. Acoustically treated nacelles were fabricated for the quiet engine and quiet fan for testing. Performance of selected inlet and fan duct lining configurations was experimentally evaluated in a flow duct. Results of the tests show that the linings perform as designed
A Plain Account of Christian Purity: Berlin Walls
While theological definitions of holiness incorporate purity terminology among several metaphors, the challenges resident in using this language may well impede opportunities of engaging difference and reconciliation. Wesleyans need a “Plain Account” of Christian purity to guide both ecclesial discussions that stress not only strengths, but also limits, in purity thinking. Using an example involving the Church of the Nazarene and Pentecostalism, the writing reveals how purity thinking risks creating “Berlin walls” when engaging differences. The analysis argues that a moral fear of degradation, rather than an acknowledgment of difference, often pushes purity thinkers to oppose certain issues
Utilizing Volunteered Geographic Information to Develop a Real-Time Disaster Mapping Tool: A Prototype and Research Framework
The global proliferation of personal mobile devices has provided the capability of electronic data collection to billions of people. Furthermore, recent innovations in technologies and implementation methodologies have allowed groups of people to collect and analyze large quantities of data. Examples of such systems include Wikipedia, a community-sourced digital encyclopedia, and Yelp, a directory and review tool of local businesses. The occurrence of important events or the establishment of new restaurants has motivated individuals to provide timely and accurate contributions to Wikipedia or Yelp, respectively. Considering the benefits of widespread data collection capabilities and the motivations to contribute to public knowledge, this design-science paper proposes and prototypes components of a publically driven, real-time disaster-response mapping system
The Effects of Geospatial Website Attributes on eImage: An Exploratory Study
This research-in-progress analyzes the impacts of geospatial website attributes on eImage, or the online image of an organization. Specifically, geospatial attributes on websites of service-oriented businesses that must convince consumers to visit their physical locations are addressed. Limited existing research regarding geospatial website attributes provided the motivation to conduct this study. Additionally, the moderating impact of geospatial reasoning ability on eImage is explored. The results of this study will further electronic commerce and human-computer interaction research, expand the understanding of website attributes and their effects on eImage, as well as provide practical guidance for web designers
Understanding and Managing Website Information Content: The WICS Method
This study describes and demonstrates the Website Information Content Survey (WICS), which is intended to provide practitioners and researchers with a means of systematically describing website information content. In an exploratory survey of twenty business-to-consumer websites across five e-commerce domains, we demonstrate how the survey can be used to make cross-website comparisons that can identify potential gaps in a website’s information content. The results of this study offer actionable guidance to practitioners seeking to match their website’s information mix to customers’ demands for product, company, and channel information. We also enable future investigations of hypothesized relationships between website information content and user-website interaction outcomes
