Exercise Therapy for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) Patients

    Get PDF
Background: Highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) has reduced mortality and morbidity in HIV-infected patients and transformed HIV infection from an acute to a chronic disease, not only increasing the life expectancy but also adding to the potential side effects associated with drug therapy. Exercise has been fused as an important adjuvant therapy and can play a valuable role in the management of health in HIV/AIDS patients

The Global Burden and Perspectives on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and the Prevention, Data Availability and Systems Approach of NCDs in Low-resource Countries

    Get PDF
The burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) is growing swiftly in low-resourced countries resulting in deleterious health resembling the NCDs burden in high-resourced countries. Despite the availability of information on the escalating adverse economic and health effects of NCDs globally, specific strategies designed to address the growing burden of NCDs in low-resourced countries remain substandard. Research engines like EBSCOhost, Science Citation Index, CINAHL database, PsycINFO, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, published and unpublished abstracts and a hand search of reference lists and table of contents of relevant journals and books were searched from January 2011 to June 2019. In total, 84 studies met the inclusion criteria. Most studies confirm that low-resourced countries compared with high-resourced countries battle to implement NCDs prevention strategies; fail to record data on the risk factors of NCDs; medical records and surveillance data are unavailable. Due to a lack of knowledge and skill, low-resourced countries show no urgency to implement a systems approach for NCDs management. The findings confirm disparities between high-resourced and low-resourced countries regarding NCDs prevention, availability of quality data, and strategies to prevent and manage NCDs through a systems approach that can assist healthcare institutions in reducing the damaging effect of NCDs globally

Nanostructured Layered Copper Hydroxy Dodecyl Sulfate: A Potential Fire Retardant for Poly(vinyl Ester) (PVE)

    Get PDF
Composites of poly(vinyl ester) (PVE) with copper hydroxy dodecyl sulfate (CHDS) were prepared by thermal curing. The efficiency of the additive, CHDS, in reducing flammability is demonstrated via cone calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The addition of 1-10% by mass of the CHDS additive resulted in significant increments in char formation (~4-11%) from thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Incorporation of the CHDS into the polymer matrix at these low concentrations leads to substantial reductions in the total heat release (~20-30%) but no significant change in the peak heat release rate. The composite materials generally ignite more quickly, however, the flame extinguishes faster for the composites relative to the virgin polymer. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and infrared spectroscopic analyses of the residues collected at various stages during thermal decomposition of the composities, suggest the participation of copper-containing species in promoting enhanced thermal stability of PVE

This research aims to analyze the revenue from the hydroponic Utama Hidrofarm business, and to know how effective the hydroponic farming of Utama Hidrofarm as a business. This research was conducted for 2 months, from March to April 2022 at Utama Hidrofarm ini North Minahasa District, Dimembe District. Data collection was carried out through interviews with the owner of the Utama Hidrofarm hydroponic farming for primary data, and for secondary data which is data collection and research materials obtained through the Google for thesis, journals, and other sources related to the issues discussed in this study. Analysis can be used to determine the main business income of Utama Hidrofarm in North Minahasa. Based on the results of the research done then it is known that from total revenue of IDR562.500 / day after reduced costs incurred in the form of variable costs and fixed costs totaling cost IDR528.070 / day then the result of hydroponic farming of the main reduction of the main reduction of Nina Minahasa Nina hyprofar can earn revenues of IDR34.430 / day for 45 days of planting period. For green vegetables from total reception of IDR2.250.000 / day after reduced production costs at a total cost IDR1.406.560 / day then the result of hydroponic farming of the main green vegetable hydrophone marriage of Minahasa Nina Mosaharbarity may earn revenues of IDR843.440 / day for 45 days of planting period

Cesarean Delivery in Women With Genital Herpes in Washington State, 1989–1991

    Get PDF
Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine whether the proportion of cesarean deliveries in pregnant women with a history of genital herpes and no active lesions at birth is higher than that in women with no history of genital herpes, and to determine whether this risk was modified by birth facilities' underlying prevalence of cesarean delivery

Uncomfortable yet Necessary: The Impact of PPE on Communication in Emergency Medicine

    Get PDF
Background: The efficacy of pre-hospital emergency services is heavily dependent on the effective communication of care providers. This effective communication occurs between providers as part of a team, but also among providers interacting with family members and patients. The COVID-19 pandemic introduced a number of communication challenges to emergency care, which are primarily linked to the increased use of PPE. Methods: We sought to analyze the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on Emergency Medical Service (EMS) workers and pre-hospital care delivery. We conducted focus groups and one-on-one interviews with fire-EMS first responders between Sept 2021 and 2022. Interviews included questions about job related stress, EMS skills, work experiences and changes during Covid-19. Interviews were recorded, independently dual coded, and analyzed for themes. Results: 223 first responders participated in 40 focus groups and 40 lead paramedics participated in individual interviews. We found that additional use of personal protective-equipment (PPE) was reported to have significantly impaired efficiency and perceptions of quality of care—among EMS team members and also between EMS workers and patients. EMS personnel also experienced on scene hostility on arrival (from both families and other agencies). Use of extensive PPE muffles voices, obscures facial expressions, and can cause team members to have difficulty recognizing and communicating with one another and can be a barrier to showing empathy and connecting with patients. Creative solutions such as putting a hand on someone’s shoulder, wearing name tags on suits, and explaining rationale for perceived delays were mentioned as methods to transcend these barriers. The appearance of providers in heavy PPE can be unsettling and create barriers to human connection, particularly for pediatric patients. Conclusion: Human connection is an important element of health care delivery and healing. These findings shed light on new skills that are needed to initiate and maintain human connection in these times of PPE use, especially full body PPE. Awareness of the communication and empathy barriers posed by PPE is the first step to improving provider-patient interactions in pre-hospital EMS. Additionally, ‘communication-friendly’ adaptations of PPE equipment may be an important area for future research and development in manufacturing and the healthcare industry

A Theoretical and Applied Review of Embodied Restorying for Post-Deployment Family Reintegration

Abstract The purpose of this paper is to introduce the theory and application of Embodied Restorying Practices (ERPs), an intervention designed to promote military family reintegration.  ERPs are an approach to family storytelling that takes on a sociomaterial, translational approach.  ERPs are geared toward individuals and families who have experienced stress, separation, or trauma.  A facilitator follows the steps of ERPs to encourage people to move beyond grand culturally imposed narratives or separate, looped stories of trauma/difficulty.  ERPs prompt families to reframe stories in cognitive and material ways to create positive, unified, living stories of the future that, when reinforced by the family system, give members increased agency and family connection.  Practical roots of ERPs stem from equine-assisted interventions with veterans. Theoretical review shows how ERPs fit in the context of family storytelling research and warrant further research. Keywords: military, family, stress, PTSD, deployment, family communication, storytelling, narrative, restorying, equine, sociomaterial,</p
