This contrastive study is geared towards investigating the euphemistic language of death in Egyptian Arabic and Chinese The results indicate that euphemisms are universal since they exist in every language and no human communication is without euphemisms Both Egyptian and Chinese native speakers regard the topic of death as a taboo Therefore they handle it with care Egyptian Arabic and Chinese employ euphemistic expressions to avoid mentioning the topic of death However Chinese has a large number of death euphemisms as compared with the Egyptian Arabic ones The results also show that death euphemisms are structurally and basically employed in both Egyptian Arabic and Chinese in metonymy as a linguistic device and a figure of speech Moreover they employ conceptual metaphor to substitute the taboo topic of deat

Structural and Magnetic Properties of LaxSr1-xMnO3

Abstract : Samples of LaxSr1-xMnO3 (x = 0.5, 0.55, 0.6, 0.66, and 0.7) were prepared by the citrate-nitrate autocombustion method. The prepared nano-particles were investigated and characterized using X-Ray diffraction (XRD) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) to confirm the formation of the samples in single phase without any impurities and to calculate the particle size. The magnetic susceptibility χM was measured as a function of temperature and magnetic field intensity. From χM(T) and M(H) the saturation magnetization (Ms), remanent magnetization (Mr) and coercivity (Hc) of the samples were estimated. The correlation among physical properties and the ratio of divalent cation substitution was discussed and reported to shed more light on technological applications of the investigated samples

Solvation Free Energies of K+, Rh+ and Cs+ Ions in Methanol-N,N-dimethylformamide Mixtures

    Get PDF
The selective solvation of K+,Rb+and Cs+ ions has been studied at 25 DCby solubility measurements. The solubility of tetraphenylboride salts, KBPh4, RbBPh4 and CsBPh4 increases with the addition of N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) to methanol (CH30H) solutions. From the solubility data, the solvation free energies of the ions under consideration are evaluated on applying the asymmetric tetraphenylarsonium-tetraphenylboride (ΔG° Ph4As+> >ΔG° Ph4B-) assumption and their values are discussed

Conductometric and volumetric study of copper sulphate in aqueous ethanol solutions at different temperatures

AbstractAn Anton Par Model 55 densimeter was used to measure the densities of copper sulphate solutions in H2O and EtOH–H2O at 298.15K, 303.15K, 308.15K, and 313.15K. The acquired information was used to ascertain the apparent molar volumes, limiting partial molar volumes, and transfer partial molar volumes of copper sulphate. These computed parameters were utilized to decipher the solute–solute and solute–solvent interactions of copper sulphate in an aqueous ethanol solution. The ion solvation behavior of copper sulphate in water and aqueous ethanol over the range of 298.15–313.15K was studied using the electrical conductivity principle. The Kraus–Bray and Shedlovsky models of conductivity were used to analyze the obtained conductance data. From the obtained data, the limiting molar conductance λ°m, association constant KA, energy of activation of the rating process (Ea), and related thermodynamic parameters were determined. The Walden product (λ°mη0) was determined. The standard thermodynamic parameters of association (ΔG°A, ΔH°A) were calculated and discussed. Increased ion–solvent and solvent–solvent interactions are indicated by limiting molar conductance values with an increasing amount of ethanol. The negative ΔG°A values indicate that the association processes in all of the studied systems are spontaneous processes. The negative estimation of (ΔH°A) demonstrates that the association processes is exothermic in nature

Genre Analysis of Daily COVID-19 Infographic Reports in the Arabian Gulf: The Case of the Kingdom of Bahrain

Infographics are visual data that are used in public service announcements to convey particular messages to a particular group of people. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Health (MOH) in the Kingdom of Bahrain relied heavily on the use of infographics to communicate different types of information to all its people. The study at hand aimed to analyze the Medical Announcement Infographics (MAIs) published by the Bahraini MOH during the pandemic. Two research questions were posited. The first one investigated the schematic moves in MAIs, and the second one researched the extent to which the Bahraini Medical Announcement infographics on COVID-19 Pandemic met the contextual variables of register. The study utilized Swales’ genre-analysis model and examined the contextual variables of the MIA register and the lexicogrammatical features highlighted in Systemic Functional Linguistics in relation to the Bahraini MOH’s MAIs. The study concluded that the register variables showed variation in the lexical, structural, and illocutionary force choice-making. In addition, MAIs included both obligatory and optional moves that impacted the behavioral attitudes of the people either positively or negatively
