A new species of the millipede genus Koponenius Golovatch et VandenSpiegel, 2014, from Nepal (Diplopoda: Polydesmida: Haplodesmidae)
Koponenius, the westernmost genus of the basically Australasian family Haplodesmidae which has hitherto been known by three species only, one each from northern India, Nepal and Myanmar, is again found in Nepal through the discovery of K. schawalleri Golovatch et VandenSpiegel sp.n
The millipede genus Globanus Attems, 1914, endemic to São Tomé and Príncipe, with the descriptionof a new species (Diplopoda, Spirostreptida, Spirostreptidae)
During a soil zoological expedition to São Tomé and Príncipe in 2010 by the California Academy of Sciences, millipedes of the genus Globanus were collected. Samples of G. marginescaber (Karsch, 1884) and G. integer (Karsch, 1884) were recovered in addition to those containing a new species. Globanus drewesi sp. nov. is described and additional records, illustrations, and descriptive notes are given for the other two species. A key to all three species of the genus is provided, and a distribution map is presented. The monotypic genus Lobogonus Demange, 1971, which includes L. trilobatus Demange, 1971, from Sierra Leone, mainland western Africa, is revalidated and removed from synonymy under Globanus. Lobogonus is illustrated from a type specimen
Trichopolydesmidae from Cameroon, 2: A species-level reclassification of Afrotropical trichopolydesmids (Diplopoda, Polydesmida), with two new species and two new records from Cameroon, and two new species from the Nimba Mountains, Guinea
A revised classification of Afrotropical Trichopolydesmidae is presented. The fauna presently contains as many as 52 species in six recognized genera, with numerous new transfers/combinations involved: Bactrodesmus Cook, 1896 (3 species, including B. grandis sp. nov. from the Nimba Mountains, Guinea), Eburodesmus Schubart, 1955 (2 species), Hemisphaeroparia Schubart, 1955 (26 species, including one old species, Polydesmus parvulus Porat, 1894, revised from type material and provisionally assigned to Hemisphaeroparia, as well as two new records and two new species from Cameroon: H. longibrachiata sp. nov. and H. avis sp. nov.), Mecistoparia Brolemann, 1926 (3 species), Physetoparia Brolemann, 1920 (12 species, including P. complexa sp. nov. from the Nimba Mountains, Guinea), and Sphaeroparia Attems, 1909 (6 species). The hitherto enigmatic genus Bactrodesmus is redefined, but the monotypic Trichozonus Carl, 1905 still remains dubious
The first record of the pantropical anthropochore millipede, Cylindrodesmus hirsutus Pocock, 1889, from Cameroon (Diplopoda: Polydesmida: Haplodesmidae)
The first formal record of the pantropical millipede, Cylindrodesmus hirsutus Pocock, 1889, is given from Cameroon. The species seems to be restricted to a man-made palm plantation within the capital city of Yaoundé, apparently being represented by a bisexual population. A male is richly illustrated to confirm the identity
High content of constitutive heterochromatin in two species of Pseudonannolene
Due to the fact that a considerable amount of constitutive heterochromatin has been commonly found in millipedes, this paper presents the characterization of the chromosomal complement, through C-banding technique, of two species of millipedes belonging to the genus Pseudonannolene. The species Pseudonannolene tocaiensis shows 2n=20, with five chromosomal pairs almost completely heterochromatic and the remaining pairs with pericentromeric C+ blocks. P. silvestris shows 2n=16, with a large heterochromatic portion in the first two pairs of autosomes, which presented the long arms totally C+.Depto. de Biologia, I.B. Notes on Afrotropical pyrgodesmidae 1
New faunistic records and abundant illustrations are provided for Procoptodesmus diffusus Brolemann, 1920, Nonnodesmus niger Attems, 1953 and Stylodesmus horridus Cook, 1895. The genera Cachania Schubart, 1955 and Udodesmus Cook, 1896 (= Hercodesmus Cook, 1896, = Euhercodesmus Schubart, 1955, both syn.n.) are reviewed and rediagnosed, with keys given to all of their four and nine species, respectively, including C. spiniger sp.n., C. taenia sp.n., C. furcata sp.n., U. harpago sp.n. and U. liber sp.n
A new species of the millipede genus Helicodesmus Golovatch, Geoffroy et VandenSpiegel, 2014, from southern Vietnam (Diplopoda: Polydesmida: Trichopolydesmidae)
Helicodesmus subcylindricus sp.n. is described from forest litter in southern Vietnam. It differs from the sole, and type, species H. anichkini Golovatch, Geoffroy et VandenSpiegel, 2014, also from southern Vietnam, by the subcylindrical body virtually devoid of paraterga, the shorter metatergal setae, the possible absence of ozopores from segment 18 and, above all, the less elaborate, albeit still fairly complex gonopods
Two new species of the millipede genus Caucasodesmus Golovatch,1985 from the Crimea, Russia (Diplopoda, Polydesmida,Trichopolydesmidae)
A key is given to all four species of the Crimeo-Caucasian genus Caucasodesmus, including two new described from Crimean caves: C. svetlanae sp.n. and C. turbanovi sp.n. The generic diagnosis is slightly emended as well
A new species of the millipede genus Cryptocorypha Attems, 1907,from Myanmar (Diplopoda: Polydesmida: Pyrgodesmidae)
A new species of the rather large, basically tropical/subtropical Asian genus Cryptocorypha is described from western Myanmar: C. perplexa sp.n. This is the 13th congener, also being the first to be reported from Myanmar. It differs from all sufficiently well described species of the genus in having 20 body segments in the M, combined with apparently the most complex gonopod structure
