Infertility diagnosis in jaguar (Panthera onca): case report

O presente trabalho relata um caso de infertilidade em uma onça-pintada (Panthera onca), macho, de 21 anos e 125 kg. São ressaltadas as alterações ocorridas nos espermatozoides, devido a estresse crônico, manejo alimentar inadequado e senescência reprodutiva.This work reports one case of infertility in a male jaguar (Panthera onca) aged 21 years and weighing 125 kg. Changes in sperm due to chronic stress, inadequate food handling and reproductive senescence are emphasized.

Diagnosis, Prognosis and Treatment of Canine Cutaneous and Subcutaneous Mast Cell Tumors

Mast cell tumors (MCTs) are hematopoietic neoplasms composed of mast cells. It is highly common in dogs and is extremely important in the veterinary oncology field. It represents the third most common tumor subtype, and is the most common malignant skin tumor in dogs, corresponding to 11% of skin cancer cases. The objective of this critical review was to present the report of the 2nd Consensus meeting on the Diagnosis, Prognosis, and Treatment of Canine Cutaneous and Subcutaneous Mast Cell Tumors, which was organized by the Brazilian Association of Veterinary Oncology (ABROVET) in August 2021. Encefalomalácia nutricional em Gallus gallus domesticus: estudo sobre a patogenia e a participação de astrócitos

Os astrócitos são células nervosas que participam da patogenia de diversas neuropatias que acometem os animais domésticos. Nas aves, a principal doença neurológica é a Encefalomalácia Nutricional causada pela deficiência de vitamina E. Com o objetivo de se estudar o comportamento do astrócitos, pelo exame imunoistoquímico, na patogenia da Encefalomalácia Nutricional em Gallus gallus domesticus, foi realizada a tentativa de indução desta doença. Utilizou-se para isto rações contendo deficiência de vitamina E no suplemento vitamínico-mineral e fontes de gordura oxidadas. Nos experimentos realizados não se obteve sucesso na indução da Encefalomalácia Nutricional, porém, em casos naturais reavaliados, constatou-se que os astrócitos participam na patogenia apresentando astrogliose e astrocitose nas áreas lesionadas e ao redor de vasos sangüíneos (barreira hemato-encefálica). Portanto, conclui-se que os astrócitos participam na patogenia da Encefalomalácia Nutricional em Gallus gallus domesticus e que, a etiologia da doença não é atribuída somente à deficiência de vitamina E na dieta.The astrocytes are nervous cells which participate in the pathogenesis of various neuropathies of domestic animais. In poultry; the main neurologic disorder is Nutricional Encephalomalacia, caused by vitamin E deficiency. With the aim to study the behavior of astrocytes in the Nutricional Encephalomalacia pathogenesis in Gallus gallus domesticus, by immunohistochemistry, a trial of induction of the disorder was realized. Low vitamin E and oxidized oi! rations were prepared. There was no success in the experimental induction of Nutricional Encephalomalacia, however, in re-evaluated naturally occurring cases, it could be observed that astrocytes undergo astrogliosis and astocytosis in the lesioned area and around blood vessels (hemato-encephalic barrier). Altogether, it may be concluded that astrocytes participate in the pathogenesis of the poultry's Nutricional Encephalomalacia, and that the disorder is not only caused by diets with the lack of vitamin E.Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP
