    Non Abelian Sugawara Construction and the q-deformed N=2 Superconformal Algebra

    The construction of a q-deformed N=2 superconformal algebra is proposed in terms of level 1 currents of Uq(su^(2)){\cal{U}}_{q} ({\widehat{su}}(2)) quantum affine Lie algebra and a single real Fermi field. In particular, it suggests the expression for the q-deformed Energy-Momentum tensor in the Sugawara form. Its constituents generate two isomorphic quadratic algebraic structures. The generalization to Uq(su^(N+1)){\cal{U}}_{q} ({\widehat{su}}(N+1)) is also proposed.Comment: AMSLATEX, 21page

    Charges, Monopoles and Duality Relations

    A charge-monopole theory is derived from simple and self-evident postulates. Charges and monopoles take an analogous theoretical structure. It is proved that charges interact with free waves emitted from monopoles but not with the corresponding velocity fields. Analogous relations hold for monopole equations of motion.     Strongly correlated wave functions for artificial atoms and molecules

    A method for constructing semianalytical strongly correlated wave functions for single and molecular quantum dots is presented. It employs a two-step approach of symmetry breaking at the Hartree-Fock level and of subsequent restoration of total spin and angular momentum symmetries via Projection Techniques.     Spacelike surfaces with free boundary in the Lorentz-Minkowski space

    We investigate a variational problem in the Lorentz-Minkowski space \l^3 whose critical points are spacelike surfaces with constant mean curvature and making constant contact angle with a given support surface along its common boundary. We show that if the support surface is a pseudosphere, then the surface is a planar disc or a hyperbolic cap. We also study the problem of spacelike hypersurfaces with free boundary in the higher dimensional Lorentz-Minkowski space \l^{n+1}.Comment: 16 pages. Accepted in Classical and Quantum Gravit

    A practical approach for minimising inbreeding and maximising genetic gain in dairy cattle

    A method that predicts the genetic composition and inbreeding (F) of the future dairy cow population using information on the current cow population, semen use and progeny test bulls is described. This is combined with information on genetic merit of bulls to compare bull selection methods that minimise F and maximise breeding value for profit (called APR in Australia). The genetic composition of the future cow population of Australian Holstein-Friesian (HF) and Jersey up to 6 years into the future was predicted. F in Australian HF and Jersey breeds is likely to increase by about 0.002 and 0.003 per year between 2002 and 2008, respectively. A comparison of bull selection methods showed that a method that selects the best bull from all available bulls for each current or future cow, based on its calf's APR minus F depression, is better than bull selection methods based on APR alone, APR adjusted for mean F of prospective progeny after random mating and mean APR adjusted for the relationship between the selected bulls. This method reduced F of prospective progeny by about a third to a half compared to the other methods when bulls are mated to current and future cows that will be available 5 to 6 years from now. The method also reduced the relationship between the bulls selected to nearly the same extent as the method that is aimed at maximising genetic gain adjusted for the relationship between bulls. The method achieves this because cows with different pedigree exist in the population and the method selects relatively unrelated bulls to mate to these different cows. Selecting the best bull for each current or future cow so that the calf's genetic merit minus F depression is maximised can slow the rate of increase in F in the population

    Reducing SS- duality to TT- duality

    The infrared limit of D=4,  N=4D=4,~~N=4 Yang-Mills theory with compact gauge group GG compactified on a two-torus is governed by an effective superconformal field theory. We conjecture that this is a certain orbifold involving the maximal torus of GG. Yang-Mills SS-duality makes predictions for all correlators of this effective conformal field theory. These predictions are shown to be implied by the standard TT-duality of the conformal field theory. Consequently, Montonen-Olive duality between electric and magnetic states reduces to the standard two-dimensional duality between momentum and winding states.Comment: 13 pages, harvmac, no figures.     On the fundamental representation of Borcherds algebras with one imaginary simple root

    Borcherds algebras represent a new class of Lie algebras which have almost all the properties that ordinary Kac-Moody algebras have, and the only major difference is that these generalized Kac-Moody algebras are allowed to have imaginary simple roots. The simplest nontrivial examples one can think of are those where one adds ``by hand'' one imaginary simple root to an ordinary Kac-Moody algebra. We study the fundamental representation of this class of examples and prove that an irreducible module is given by the full tensor algebra over some integrable highest weight module of the underlying Kac-Moody algebra. We also comment on possible realizations of these Lie algebras in physics as symmetry algebras in quantum field theory.Comment: 8 page

    Polarization Correlations in Pair Production from Charged and Neutral Strings

    Polarization correlations of e+e−e^{+}e^{-} pair productions from charged and neutral Nambu strings are investigated, via photon and graviton emissions, respectively and explicit expressions for their corresponding probabilities are derived and found to be \textit{speed} dependent. The strings are taken to be circularly oscillating closed strings, as perhaps the simplest solution of the Nambu action. In the extreme relativistic case, these probabilities coincide, but, in general, are different, and such inquiries, in principle, indicate whether the string is charged or uncharged. It is remarkable that these dynamical relativistic quantum field theory calculations lead to a clear violation of Local Hidden Variables theories.Comment: 6 pages, no figure, LaTeX with ws-mpla.cl
