Representaciones (ficticias) de un pequeño medio literario: El caso de la literatura luxemburguesa

Reflecting on the literary milieu through the lens of a small literature reveals existing configurations, prevalent dynamics and structural constraints characteristic of a given milieu. Firstly, author interviews conducted in the context of our research project Observatory of the Franco-Luxembourgish literary milieu (Obslit) will be examined in order to highlight the conflicting views regarding the properties of the milieu. These fluctuate between a perceived vitality and the very negation of the existence of the milieu. Secondly, these opposite views will be investigated further by analysing the fictional representations of the milieu as cast in Georges Hausemer’s 1989 novel Kleines luxemburgisches Sittenbild and its rewriting in the 2018 novel Kleine luxemburgische Literaturgeschichte. The confrontation of the two versions enables us to retrace the development of the milieu in the wake of the emergence of new mediation devices and to showcase how this evolution was commented on by Hausemer, a key figure of the milieu.La reflexión acerca del medio literario a partir de la perspectiva de una literatura pequeña como la luxemburguesa permite revelar sus configuraciones, sus dinámicas y las limitaciones estructurales que lo determinan. En primer lugar, el presente artículo partirá de una serie de entrevistas realizadas en el marco del proyecto de investigación del Observatorio del medio literario francoluxemburgués (Obslit) para mostrar que las cuestiones acerca de las propiedades del medio revelan posiciones enfrentadas que oscilan entre la descripción de su vitalidad y la negación de su propia existencia. En segundo lugar, se profundizará en estas visiones opuestas del medio a través del análisis de sus representaciones ficcionales llevadas a cabo por Georges Hausemer en su novela Kleines luxemburgisches Sittenbild (1989), así como en su actualización bajo el título modificado de Kleine luxemburgische Literaturgeschichte (2018). La yuxtaposición de estas dos versiones permite destacar el desarrollo del medio tras la aparición de nuevos dispositivos de mediación, así como observar la manera en que el propio G. Migration Literature as a New World Literature? An Overview of the Main Arguments

Contemporary migration literature is increasingly heralded as a ‘new world literature’. This working paper presents a brief overview on the main arguments advanced to sustain this claim. It will address the question of when and why the term ‘new world literature’ came about. It will highlight the place of migration literature in research on world literature and conclude with a brief reflection on some aspects of world literature theory and their possible contribution to scholarship on migration literature
