    FeS clusters are the oldest biological cofactors. They play a role in various cellular processes, in all steps of the innate immune response to pathogens and the replication process of many viruses like SARS-CoV-2. Consequently, understanding the chemistry and biology of FeS clusters is essential for understanding the mechanism of cell development, the functioning of the immune response to pathogens, and the viral replication process. To elucidate the roles of FeS clusters and proteins in these processes and use the fundamental knowledge for developing therapeutics, the Action aims to build a coordinated effort applying multidisciplinary approaches combining stem cell biology, immunology and virology, metabolomics, bioinorganic chemistry, and computational and medicinal chemistry. The resulting knowledge will reveal new therapeutic targets or approaches to treating many human diseases, including viral infection, neurodegeneration and cancer. Bridging these fields is not possible without access to a Network, where experts in these fields can share their findings, exchange ideas, and develop new research agendas and projects

    Definitions of the Mediterranean diet (MD) are divergent in different sources, and some concepts are overlapping with other dietary patterns with known health benefit. The traditional MD mainly reflect plant-based dietary pattern considering high consumption of vegetables, fruits and nuts, legumes, and cereals (not processed), low consumption of meat and meat products, and dairy products. The Mediterranean diet has been linked to a number of health benefits, including reduced mortality risk and lower incidence of cardiovascular disease, and in the last years entered the medical literature rapidly. Higher adherence to the Mediterranean diet is linked to a lower risk of obesity, a variety of noncommunicable diseases (such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and metabolic syndrome), as well as mental problems, according to the published academic researches. But, even within the Euro-Mediterranean region, attention to the Mediterranean diet varies from one nation to the next. Kosovo, as part of the Western Balkans (which include Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia), is continental, landlocked country, where dietary habits (ex., adherence to MD) and connection with lifestyle and health status have not been studied yet, there are lack of data, or is generally considered only in multi-country surveys. Does, the present study shows our intention to evaluate adherence to MD and its impact on lifestyle, physical activity and health outcome among inhabitants from different areas of Kosovo, with main goal to assess how sustainability of the MD is linked in different circumstances with environment, economy, sociocultural, and nutrition-health issues. The preliminary data from the ongoing study, shows low to middle score of adherence to MD, and that more hard-working strategies are needed to make MD approach more familiar to the people while address health outcomes

    Plant bioactive compounds affecting biomarkers and final outcome of COVID-19

    Herbal medicinal products are known for their widespread use toward various viral infections and ease of disease symptoms. Therefore, the sudden appearance of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-related Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and COVID-19 disease was no exception. Bioactive compounds from natural plant origin could act on several disease levels: through essential immunological pathways, affecting COVID-19 biomarkers, or by halting or modulating SARS-CoV-2. In this paper, we review the recently published data regarding the use of plant bioactive compounds in the prevention/treatment of COVID-19. The mode of actions responsible for these effects is discussed, including the inhibition of attachment, penetration and release of the virus, actions affecting RNA, protein synthesis and viral proteases, as well as other mechanisms. The reviewed information suggests that plant bioactive compounds can be used alone or in combinations, but upcoming, extensive and global studies on several factors involved are needed to recognize indicative characteristics and various patterns of bioactive compounds use, related with an array of biomarkers connected to different elements of inflammatory and immune-related processes of COVID-19 disease
