    The Analysis of English Word Formations Used on Brand Names Found in Indonesian Products

    This research aims at describing how brand names with English inIndonesian products are created. To analyze the data found theresearchers applied English word formation in English morphology. Thisis a descriptive research. The data were brand names using English foundin Indonesian product which were taken from three supermarkets in Solonamely Hypermart Solo Grand Mall, Hypermart Gorro Assalam, andCarefur from February up to April 2010. The research found that thebrand names with English in Indonesian products can be created byapplying word formation such as compounding, blending, affixation,reduplication, onomatopoeia, abbreviation, acronym and clipping. Theprocess of compounding consists of pure compounding and modificationcompounding, The process of blending includes the first syllable of thefirst words and the first syllable of the second words, the first syllable ofthe first words and the second syllable from the front of the secondwords., the first words and the last syllables of the second words, the firstwords and two syllables from the front of the second words, twosyllables from the front of the first words and the second words, twosyllables from the front of the first words and the first syllable of thesecond words, the first words and the two last syllables from the back ofthe second words, and the first words and the first syllables of the second words. The affixation process covers prefixes pro-, -bio and suffixes –y, -er, -ness, -ish, and –s. The process of reduplication includes puremodification, modification with intensifier meaning and reduplicationwith sound change. The process of abbreviation found is pureabbreviation and acronym. The process of clipping includes the clippingof letter and syllables

    Swearing Used in Richard Wright's Black Boy

    This research aims at finding the types of swearing expressions and linguistic forms of English swearing used in Richard Wright's Black Boy. This is a descriptive qualitative research since it describes the phenomena of swearing used in the novel. The data of the research are all the conversations or sentences used swearing in the novel written by Richard Wright namely Black Boy as the main data source. The method of collecting data in this research is observation and teknik lanjut catat. After all the data had been collected then they are coded using the coding system such as data number/title of novel/chapter/page/data. There is no data reduction since all the data are analyzed in this research. This research used theory triangulation. Kind of swearing expressions found in this novel dealing with God and religion terms, name of animals and plants, part of body, racial terms, stupidity terms, name of occupation, sexual terms, family terms. The linguistic forms of English swearing used in this novel are word, phrase, and clause. The swearing in the form of words consists of (1) noun referring to place, person, occupation, animal, and idea (2) verb and (3) adjective. Phrase consists of (1) noun phrase with swearing functioning as headword, modifier, and both headword and modifier, (2) adjective phrase with swearing functioning as modifier. Swearing expression is also found in the form of sentence

    Comparing Indonesian and English Culture in EFL Context

    This research aims at describing the implementation of comparing Indonesian and English culture in EFL context and describing the students' perception on it. This is a descriptive qualitative. This research is applied to non-English department in English lesson. The data used in this research is the questionnaire results. To collect the data, the writer gives questionnaire to the students via Google Form. The writer uses 4 topic of cultural material such as comparing fairy tale (Bawang Merah Bawang Putih VS Cinderella), tradition (The Night of One Suro VS Halloween), Indonesian VS English proverbs, and Food around the world (Acar/Pickle). The students feel interest and enjoy with all materials. Even after learning those materials, they are proud of Indonesian culture

    PENGARUH LIMBAH KARBON AKTIF Cs-137 TERHADAP KERAPATAN DAN KUAT TEKAN BETON LIMBAH. Telah dilakukan optimasi perbandingan limbah karbon aktif : semen terhadap uji kerapatan dan kuat tekan hasil imobilisasi karbon aktif – semen. Ukuran butir karbon aktif yang digunakan adalah –40/+50 sampai –60/+70 mesh. Variasi kandungan limbah antara 10 – 90 % berat, dengan dimensi 46 mm diameter dan 50 mm tinggi. Uji kualitas hasil imobilisasi dilakukan dengan menggunakan cara Paul Weber, sedangkan densitas ditentukan dengan cara menimbang dan mengukur volume sample. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mempelajari pengaruh ukuran butir limbah karbon aktif terhadap kerapatan dan kuat tekan, sehingga diperoleh ratio komposisi matriks dan limbah yang optimal. Hasil percobaan menunjukkan bahwa hasil optimal diperoleh pada saat kandungan limbah 50 % berat dengan ukuran butir -50/+60 mesh. Hasil uji tekan menunjukkan densitas optimal adalah 1,7543 g/cm3 dengan kuat tekan 24 N/mm2. The EFFECT OF spent activated carbon Cs-137 TO the density and compression strength of cemented waste. Optimation of spent activated carbon: cement ratio to density and compression strength test of cemented – activated carbon immobilization result has been done. Used particle size of activated carbon was -40/50+ to -60/70+ mesh. Waste contain were varied to 10 – 90 % weight with dimension 46 mm (dia) and 50 mm (h). Quality test of immobilization results were done by using Paul Weber method, while their densities were determined by weighing and volume measurement of sample. Objective of the experiment is to study the effect of particle size activated carbon waste to the density and compression strength, so the optimum ratio of matrix composition and waste loading have been obtained. The result showed that optimum results were obtained on 50 % weight of waste contain with particle size -50/60+ mesh. Compressive strength test result indicated that optimum density was 1.7543 g/cm3 with compressive strength 25 N/mm2
