    THE ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN USING QUESTION TAG IN SMA NEGERI 1 LINTONG NIHUTA

    Grammar is a description of certain organizing aspects of a written particular language. One of the grammar topic is question tag. Question tag is a mini question which we often put at the end of a sentence. The purpose of this study is to describe the ability of the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Lintong Nihuta in using question tag. This study is a qualitative study with descriptive research. The population of this study is the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Lintong Nihuta in Academic Year 2020/2021. The sample is 50 students. The instrument for collecting data is a test concerning question tag which consist of 20 multiple choice and 10 for completion form. The test is done in order to know the ability of students in using question tag. Based on result of the data analysis, the percentage of the student’s ability is devided three parts high category, moderate category and low category. The result shows that 2 students (4%) belong to high score category, 40 students (80%) to moderate category, and 8 students (16%) to low category. The mean score is 83.56, it is 84% of the total students who can do the test well with 42 students who got score above 72.     TEACHING VOCABULARY BY USING SUBSTITUTION AND CUED RESPONSE DRILLS TECHNIQUE TO THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP NEGERI 41 MEDAN

    In learning a language, the first thing people should learn is vocabulary. Vocabulary is one of the essential aspects of language.  Without vocabulary nothing can be conveyed.  In other words, vocabulary is the core of the language itself.  The aim of this study is to find out whether or not Substitution and Cued Response Drills Technique gives improvement on students’ vocabulary mastery.  The subject of the study is the students of Class VIII E of SMP Negeri 41 Medan in the Academic Year of 2017/2018.  Vocabulary test, questionnaire, observation sheet and field notes were used as the instruments for collecting data. The results of the study showed the improvement of the students’ vocabulary mastery.  It is proven by the students’ mean score of each test: pre test is 45.37, formative test is 58.28 and post test is 70.12.  Moreover, the improvement could also be seen from the Minimum Mastery Criteria (Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimum) that showed the percentage of students’ score of pre test is 9.37%, formative test is 31.25%, and post test is 56.25%.  It can be concluded that there is a progress on student score percentage namely 46.88% from pre-test to post-test based on KKM. Therefore, the application of Substitution and Cued Response Drills Technique is suitable to teach vocabulary to the students

    IMPROVING STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION THROUGH LISTEN READ DISCUSS (LRD) STRATEGY

    This research was conducted in order to find out wheter LRD Strategy can improve students’ Reading Comprehension in Recount Text and to know the students’ responses toward the learning reading comprehension through LRD Strategy. The subjects of this research were the tenth grade students at SMA Budi Murni 3 Medan. In conducting this research, the writer used Classroom Action Research (CAR) as the method of the research. The data collected used quantitative and qualitative data. Quantitative data was gained from the result of pre-test, formative test and post-test. Meanwhile, qualitative data was gained from the result of field notes, observation sheets and questionnaire toward students and teacher activity. The result showed that LRD Strategy can improve the students’ reading comprehension especially in recount text. The improvement can be seen from the student’s mean score in the pre-test is 52.41, in the formative test is 74.48, and in the post-test is 80. Furthermore, the students’ responses toward the method of the teaching learning process sound great because above 90% of the students are interested, motivated and understand the lesson with LRD Strategy

    ERROR ANALYSIS ON THE USING BE OF SIMPLE PRESENT AND SIMPLE PAST TENSES AMONG THE SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP NEGERI 2 NAINGGOLAN

    Grammar is the rules in a language for changing the form of words and joining them into sentences to create meaning. This research is focused on error analysis  on the using BE in Simple Present and Simple Past Tenses. The purpose of this study is to find out the grammatical errors in using BE in students’ composition. In this study the writer took the the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Nainggolan in the Academic Year of 2017/2018 consisting 25 students as the sample. The data are analyzed with descriptive qualitative method. The data were identified based on kinds of errors. The kinds of errors are omission and misordering. The results of the data analysis show that there are 155 errors made by the students in their compositions. The writer concluded that omission errors 68 or 61,80% in Simple Present Tense and  49 or 51% in Simple Past Tense, misordering errors 16 or 14,60% in Simple Present Tense and 22 or 23% in Simple Past Tense. But out of category there are 28 or 23,60 redundant sentences in Simple Present Tense and 25 or 26% redundant sentences in Simple Past Tense. The writer also concluded that there are two causes of errors, namely Translation and Carelesssness. Based on the result of the research, it is suggested that the students should learn and memorize grammatical rules an teachers should give clearer explanation on grammatical rules in English

    AN ERROR ANALYSIS ON THE USE OF SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE OF REPORT TEXT AT GRADE VII SMP DHARMA WANITA MEDAN

    The writer was founded that the students were difficult to understand how to translate the phrase, clause, words and the sentences in the text expecially in recount text in another hand they were difficult to translate, a commos response of students, and they didn’t have a good vocabulary the felt difficultness translation while write down indonesia to English that’s why the researcher were interested to analyze the English translation especially in borrowing Tehnique. This was descriptive qualitative research which only collect, classify and analyze the data. Then drew the conclusion according to analysis without making generalization. This study deal with focusing on how someone translate the text of the theory, using translation technique and using the specific techique and dominant types. The dominant types of borrowing translation technique based on the analyzed of the researcher that the dominant types of borrowing translation technique found in recount text, there are 24 data in the text which is dominantly Naturalized Borrowing (75%) and Pure Borrowing (25%). Based on the finding and explanation in the analysis, some discussion can be withdrawn as follows. This study tried to analyze the borrowing translation technique used by the student in translating a text, there are only two types of borrowing translation technique such as pure borrowing and naturalized borrowing founded in text especially recount text which is using by students of SMK Bina Media Medan. Based on the finding in the analysis, the lexical term used in the target language consist of borrowing word which are generally assimilated with target language, and some are new to the target speakers. There is intentional and no intentional modification in the process of translation. It is to say that the type of borrowing is more oriented towards two types such as: pure borrowing and naturalized borrowing. In this study the students used the dominant of aturalized borrowing when they were translating a phrase, sentences from source language to the target language

    IMPROVING STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY MASTERY THROUGH THE APPLICATION OF WORD WALL STRATEGY TO THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA GKPI PAMEN MEDAN

    Learning  vocabulary is important for learners because the mastery of certain words would motivate them to express themselves clearly. In reality, vocabulary becomes a problem to almost all of students at any level of education. This study is aimed to improve students’ vocabulary mastery through Word Wall Strategy. This strategy is one of appropriate stategies in improving students’ vocabulary mastery. The subject of this study is the students of Class X A of SMA GKPI Pamen Medan in the Academic Year of 2017/2018. This study was conducted by applying Classroom Action Research (CAR), which was performed in two cycles (cycle I and cycle II) and each cycle consisted of three meetings, excluding pretest and posttest. The instruments of collecting data are vocabulary tests, field notes, observation sheet, documentation, and questionaire. The results of vocabulary tests showed that the mean of the students’ score increased continuously from pretest is 59 with 15% of students who got score >75, in formative test in cycle I is 67.63 with 45% of students who got score >75, and in the posttest is 83.33 with 91% of students who got score >75. It showed that there is a significant mean score increase from pretest to posttest, namely about 76%. The field notes, observation sheet, photograph evidence and questionaire showed that the students are interested in the learning teaching processes through the application Word Wall Strategy. It was found that Word Wall Strategy could improve students’ vocabulary mastery. It is suggested that teachers of English apply Word Wall strategy as one of the strategies in teaching vocabulary mastery

    IMPROVING THE SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY MASTERY OF SMP ANASTASIA PANCUR BATU BY USING MAKE A MATCH TECHNIQUE

    This research was primarily conducted to prove that the application of Make a Match technique could improve the seventh grade students of SMP Anastasia Pancur Batu and to describe their responses towards the application of Make a Match technique in the processes of learning vocabulary. This research is Classroom Action Research which was performed in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of three meetings. The quantitative data analysis showed that the students mean score increase continuously from 72,75 in pre test, 85,17 in formative test and 96,20. The qualitative data analysis showed that the students gave good responses towards the application of Make A Match technique. They felt more interested and encouraged to master vocabulary after Make a Match technique was applied. To sum up, the application of Make a Match technique could improve the students’ vocabulary mastery. It is advisable that English teachers should try applying Make a Match technique in teaching vocabulary

    The research is intended to determine the best approach to managing classrooms. There are discussions regarding the comparison of approaches that have proven effective in designing effective classroom management. Student achievement could not be separated from a successful classroom management system. The learning environment in the class is based on how well teachers build effective classroom management systems. It leads to the students’ well-being in the learning process. In order to achieve a successful classroom management system, teachers tend to apply different approaches. There are some studies that deal with the application of these approaches in the process of creating such an effective classroom management system. Two of them are the behavior modification approach and the analytical pluralistic approach. This research is completed by using quantitative approach. The findings lead to the conclusion that certain approaches have proven better through this experimental research. At the end of the research, readers might benefit by taking the result of this research as a reference in their daily teaching

    Pelajaran matematika sangat perlu diberikan kepada semua peserta didik untuk membekali peserta didik dengan kemampuan berpikir logis, analitis, sistematis, kritis, dan kreatif, serta kemampuan bekerjasama. Kompetensi tersebut diperlukan agar peserta didik dapat memiliki kemampuan memperoleh, mengelola, dan memanfaatkan informasi untuk bertahan hidup, pada keadaan yang selalu berubah, tidak pasti, dan kompetitif. Model Pembelajaran Advance Organizer adalah suatu rencana pembelajaran yang digunakan untuk menguatkan struktur kognitif siswa ketika mempelajari konsep-konsep atau informasi yang baru dan bagaimana sebaiknya pengetahuan itu disusun serta dipahami dengan benar. Peta konsep akan berfungsi sebagai penyusun yang mengorganisasikan semua informasi berikutnya yang akan diasimilasikan oleh pembelajar. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SMA Swasta St. Petrus Sidikalang pada siswa Kelas X Semester II T.P. 2021/2022 dengan metode Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (Action Research). Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa Kelas X IPA 1 yang berjumlah 35 orang. Hasil penelitian diperoleh: (1) Adanya peningkatan persentase aktivitas belajar siswa melalui penerapan model pembelajaran Advance Organizer dengan Peta Konsep pada materi persamaan kuadrat di kelas X IPA 1 SMA Swasta St. Petrus Sidikalang T.P. 2021/2022 sebesar 57,15% dari 17,14% di siklus I menjadi 74,29% di siklus II yang dikategorikan baik. (2) Adanya peningkatan hasil belajar siswa melalui penerapan model pembelajaran Advance Organizer dengan Peta Konsep pada materi persamaan kuadrat di kelas X IPA 1 SMA Swasta St. Petrus Sidikalang T.P. 2021/2022 dari total 35 siswa pada siklus I sebanyak 11 siswa (31,43%) menjadi 30 siswa (85,71%) yang tuntas. Dari hasil penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa melalui penerapan model pembelajaran Advance Organizer dengan Peta Konsep pada materi persamaan kuadrat dapat meningkatkan aktivitas dan hasil belajar siswa di kelas X IPA 1 SMA Swasta St. Petrus Sidikalang T.P. 2021/2022, sehingga model pembelajaran Advance Organizer dengan Peta Konsep dapat dijadikan salah satu alternatif model pembelajaran

    THE ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN USING DEMONSTRATIVE PRONOUNS AT SMA SWASTA BINA GUNA TANAH JAWA SIANTAR IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2021/2022

    This study aims to determine whether students are able to use demonstrative pronouns at SMA Bina Guna Tanah Jawa Siantar. This study uses a multiple choice test design with 40 questions. The froblem of this study is the student's ability to use demonstrative pronouns. To answer the formulation of the problem related to the research objectives, the writer applies a quantitative method, namely giving tests to students and formulated in multiple choice items. Data collected through post-test consists of 34 students. The writer uses the total sample technique in this study. It means that all samples in the class are taken. The date results show that there are a total of 32% of all students' answers which can be classified as low and have not reached the minimum score, and the average score of students is 3.0 which means the category is low and students' weaknesses in using pointing pronouns are in those  because they only get 23%, the weaknesses obtained with the thesis were 25%, followed by 42%, and finally there were those who got 47%, the writer concludes that the weakness of using demonstrative pronouns is in those. Based on the findings and discussion, the researcher concluded that the students' ability to use the demonstrative pronoun method was low at SMA Bina Guna Tanah Jawa Siantar
