Unique Mass Texture for Quarks and Leptons

    Get PDF
Texture specific quark mass matrices which are hermitian and hierarchical are examined in detail . In the case of texture 6 zeros matrices, out of sixteen possibilities examined by us, none is able to fit the low energy data (LED), for example, Vus=0.2196±0.0023V_{us} = 0.2196 \pm 0.0023, Vcb=0.0395±0.0017V_{cb} = 0.0395 \pm 0.0017, VubVcb=0.08±0.02\frac{V_{ub}}{V_{cb}} = 0.08 \pm 0.02, VtdV_{td} lies in the range 0.0040.0130.004 - 0.013 (PDG). Similarly none of the 32 texture 5 zeros mass matrices considered is able to reproduce LED. In particular, the latest data from LEP regarding Vub/Vcb(=0.093±0.016)|V_{ub}|/|V_{cb}|(=0.093\pm0.016) rules out all of them. In the texture 4 zeros case, we find that there is a unique texture structure for UU and DD mass matrices which is able to fit the data.Comment: 12 pages, LaTeX,some changes in the references, minor changes in the text,to appear in Phys Rev D(Rapid communications

Effect of Growth Regulator and Nutrients Spray on Control of Fruit Drop, Fruit Size and Quality of Ber under Sub-Montane Zone of Punjab

The effect of foliar spray of plant growth regulators and nutrients on fruit drop, fruit size and quality was studied in ber cv Sanuar-2 at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoshiarpur, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, during 2005-2006. Plants were sprayed with NAA (20, 30 or 40 ppm), KNO3 (0.5, 1.0 or 1.5%) and ZnSO43333</sub (1.5%)

Hybrid Superconductor-Quantum Point Contact Devices using InSb Nanowires

    Get PDF
Proposals for studying topological superconductivity and Majorana bound states in nanowires proximity coupled to superconductors require that transport in the nanowire is ballistic. Previous work on hybrid nanowire-superconductor systems has shown evidence for Majorana bound states, but these experiments were also marked by disorder, which disrupts ballistic transport. In this letter, we demonstrate ballistic transport in InSb nanowires interfaced directly with superconducting Al by observing quantized conductance at zero-magnetic field. Additionally, we demonstrate that the nanowire is proximity coupled to the superconducting contacts by observing Andreev reflection. These results are important steps for robustly establishing topological superconductivity in InSb nanowires

A tight Tsirelson inequality for infinitely many outcomes

We present a novel tight bound on the quantum violations of the CGLMP inequality in the case of infinitely many outcomes. Like in the case of Tsirelson's inequality the proof of our new inequality does not require any assumptions on the dimension of the Hilbert space or kinds of operators involved. However, it is seen that the maximal violation is obtained by the conjectured best measurements and a pure, but not maximally entangled, state. We give an approximate state which, in the limit where the number of outcomes tends to infinity, goes to the optimal state for this setting. This state might be potentially relevant for experimental verifications of Bell inequalities through multi-dimenisonal entangled photon pairs.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures; improved presentation, change in title, as published

Effect of Post-Harvest Treatment on Storage Quality in 'Umran' Ber Fruit

    Get PDF
An experiment was conducted to study the effect of post-harvest sprays of CaCl2 (@ 0.5%, 1.0%&2.0%), Ca(NO3)2 (@ 0.5%, 1.0%&2.0%), GA3 (@ 20, 40 and 60 ppm) and Bavistin (0.1%) on storage quality of 'Umran' ber'. Fruits of uniform size were harvested at physiological maturity and treated with various chemicals. Treated fruits were placed in CFB boxes and placed in cold storage (3-5 °C and 85-95% RH). Stored fruits were evaluated at 10, 20 and 30 days from storage for palatability rating, TSS, acidity, Vitamin C and total sugars. After 30 days from storage, the highest palatability rating was recorded in GA3 (60 ppm) treated fruits, followed by CaCl2 (2.0%). Both TSS and Total sugars showed a similar trend of increase upto 20 days from storage, followed by a decrease. However, acidity and Vitamin C content of fruits decreased continuously with advancement of storage period. At the end of storage, maximum TSS, total acidity Vitamin C and total sugars were observed in GA3 (60 ppm) treated fruits, followed by CaCl2 (2.0%). Studies revealed that GA3 (60 ppm) treated ber fruits maintained very good quality at 20 days of cold storage

Contributions of spontaneous phase slippage to linear and non-linear conduction near the Peierls transition in thin samples of o-TaS_3

In the Peierls state very thin samples of TaS_3 (cross-section area \sim 10^{-3} mkm^2) are found to demonstrate smearing of the I-V curves near the threshold field. With approaching the Peierls transition temperature, T_P, the smearing evolves into smooth growth of conductance from zero voltage interpreted by us as the contribution of fluctuations to the non--linear conductance. We identify independently the fluctuation contribution to the linear conductance near T_P. Both linear and non-linear contributions depend on temperature with close activation energies \sim (2 - 4) x 10^3 K and apparently reveal the same process. We reject creep of the {\it continuous} charge-density waves (CDWs) as the origin of this effect and show that it is spontaneous phase slippage that results in creep of the CDW. A model is proposed accounting for both the linear and non-linear parts of the fluctuation conduction up to T_P.Comment: 6 pages, 5 Postscript figure, RevTeX, accepted for publication in PR
