Dos son los fines básicos de este artículo: primero, dar a conocer una nueva copia novohispana en pintura de la devota imagen del Cristo de Burgos, por fortuna, por no ser muy normal, firmada por su autor, el pintor tlaxcalteca Juan de Villalobos. Y como complemento oportuno, ofrecer noticias y datos conocidos y dispersos sobre él en distintas publicaciones para su mejor conocimiento.Two are the basic purposes of this paper. First provide a new novohispana painting copy of the devout image of Christ of Burgos, fortunately, not very regular, signed by its author, the Tlaxcalan painter Juan de Villalobos. Los Ministriles de la Capilla Real y la Universidad de Granada: aspectos ceremoniales

Una de esas estampas, más genuinamente granadinas, es esa procesión cívico-académica que, con motivo de la inauguración de nuevo curso, recorre, normalmente a comienzos de octubre, algunas calles de la ciudad, poniendo a la par una nota de seriedad y colorido. Esto, sin embargo, no es más que el último vestigio de un rico y complejo ceremonial por el cual la Universidad se hacía presente en la Ciudad en numerosas ocasiones a lo largo del año y que hoy conocemos con más profundidad gracias a un protocolo notarial1 donde concierta con los ministriles de la Capilla Real su acompañamiento a tales actos.One of the images most typical of Granada is the academic procession through the main streets of the town at the opening of the academic year, in which the civil authorities also participare, which takes place at the beginning of October and is at once both serious and festive. However, this procession is really the last remnant of a long and rich ceremonial tradition by means of which the university has over the centuries made its presence known in the town on numerous occasions throughout the year. Today we have more detailed knowledge of ali these activities thanks to the discovery of a Notary Protocol where the University and the canons of the Royal Chapel agree their co-panicipation in these ceremonial activities

Nueva aproximación al retablo mayor de la desaparecida iglesia del Convento Casa Grande de San Francisco de Granada

Although the altarpiece was lost after the French invasion of the town, a study of the detailed documentation which has survived has allowed us to reconstruct it with considerable precision. lt was without doubt a key example of early Granada Baroque art, as the characteristic classical style of the end of the 16th century survives very c learly in it. lndeed, the altarpiece may not have been completely lost, since we believe that some sculptures which are at present in the Cathedral ambulatory originally formed part of it.Aunque perdido, tras la Invasión Francesa, este retablo, del que se conserva tan abundante y detallada documentación que nos ha permitido ofrecer un alzado bastante aproximado del mismo, fue sin lugar a dudas una pieza clave del Barroco temprano granadino, pues aún perviven con gran nitidez los estilemas del clasicismo de finales del quinientos. Incluso, no se perdió todo pues algunas esculturas situadas actualmente en la girola de la Catedral de Granada creemos que pueden proceder del mismo

En este trabajo se ofrece, no sólo una serie de documentos de gran interés para conocer la vida y obra del gran pintor granadino Pedro Atanasio Bocanegra, sino también un amplio estudio introductorio donde se marca muy someramente su perfil biográfico y profesional, así como su papel dentro del momento cultural que le tocó vivir. Con ello pretendemos revalorizar su personalidad artística, en particular -reunió una excepcional pinacoteca y biblioteca- y en definitiva queremos animar a los jovenes investigadores a trabajar en esta línea para demostrar que Granada, al igual que en la escultura, también tuvo en la pintura una gran relevancia dentro del panorama nacional.This paper presents a series of documents which reveal much of the life and works of the great Granada painter Pedro Atanasio Bocanegra. We also offer an extensive introductory study summarizing his life and professional career, and describing the role he played in contemporary cultural life. The aim is to reevaluate this artist - he also built up an exceptional art collection and library - and to encourage research in this area, which will help to show that Granada played an important role in developing a national tradition of painting as well as of sculpture

En este trabajo se analizan, siguiendo un orden cronológico, los más importantes ciborios, tabernáculos y manifestadores eucarísticos de la Granada Moderna, dada la gran trascendencia que desde la misma incorporación del Reino Nazarí a Castilla, jugó la Eucaristía - eje y esencia del crist ianismo-, por su carácter anicónico, en el loable intento de la Administración de acercar su religión a la población musulmana, viéndose todo ello, además, potenciado a raíz del Concilio de Trento, a partir del cual se potencia, frente a las diversas posturas reformadoras protestantes, el culto solemne a El Santísimo.This article describes the most important Eucharistic chalices and tabernacles in modern Granada, given the great importance of the Eucharist from the time of the assimilation of the Nazarí kingdom into Castile. This was principally due to the attempts of the authorities to bring over their Moslem subjects, to the true faith, which was further encouraged by the Council of Trent. From this time on the cult of the Holy Sacrament was prometed as a counterweight to Protestant reforms

Cardinal Belluga, the architect José de Bada and the Chapter of the Virgin of Sorrows in the Parish Church of Motril

A través de este sencillo trabajo se pretende analizar esta excepcional capilla, partiendo de la documentación, pues ya no existe, debida al mecenazgo del todopoderoso motrileño Cardenal Belluga. Obra de José de Bada, el último gran maestro de la escuela barroca granadina, no sólo tuvo que ser una pieza excepcional, sino que ello se complementaba con su mobiliario, enviado desde la misma Roma por tan importante patrono.This paper offers an analysis of this outstanding chapel built under the patronage of the all-powerful Cardinal Belluga of Motril. The study is based on an examination of the available documents - since the original building no longer exists. Jt was the work of José de Bada, the last great master of the Granada baroque school, and must have been not only an exceptional chapel in itself but also outstanding for the church fumiture which the prelate had brought specially from Rome

Mucho se ha avanzado en los últimos años en el conocimiento del patrimonio artístico granadino, también de la escultura, donde Granada, debe ocupar un lugar señero en la época Moderna. Muchos y muy destacados artistas, hicieron posible esta feliz realidad. De todos ellos, la figura de Bernabé de Gaviria, sigue siendo el gran desconocido, a pesar de ser autor de obras singulares y haber hecho incursiones en el campo de la edilicia y de la retablística. De ahí que sea muy novedoso un estudio de estos dos momentos claves de su vida, a partir de fuentes documentales.In recent years we have gained much more knowledge about the artistic legacy in Granada, including sculpture, an art in which Granada occupies a significant place in the Modern age. This was due to many distinguished artists, of whom Bernabé de Gaviria is still one of the least-known figures, despite the fact that he sculpted many original works, and also made forays into the fields of building and of the creation of altarpieces

Granada master builders (construction workers, stonemasons and carpenters): notarial protocols in the Historical Archive of the Archbishopric of Granada

Se  ofrece  un  extracto  de  todos los  contratos de  obra  de  albañilería, cantería  y  carpintería registrados en los protocolos notariales del Archivo Histórico del Arzobispado de Granada. Es una documentación básica y  fundamental que facilitará el trabajo a los estudiosos de la historia de la arquitectura en particular y en general a los interesados en la investigación histórico-artística. Durante el verano de 2001 vaciamos los fondos notariales conservados en dicho archivo para completar aquella extensa monografía, titulada “Maestros de cantería y albañilería en la Granada Moderna, según los escribanos de la Ciudad” , publicada en 2000, gracias al patrocinio del Colegio Notarial de Granada.In this paper we present extracts of  all the contracts for building work, stonemasonry and carpentry to be found in the notarial protocols in the historical archive of the archbishopric of Granada. These essential basic documents will be of use to researchers specializing in the history of architecture and more generally to those interested in research in art history.
