Il saggio propone un'ipotesi di lavoro per verificare il significato di un'opera d'arte, basandosi sul concetto di 'call for interpretation'. La struttura profonda e il ruolo sociale dell'arte è produrre una richiesta di interpretazione, dato il presupposto che un'opera d'arte "deve" avere un significato, diversamente dalla vita "reale". L'indagine verte su due ambiti esemplari: la musica (e il suo rapporto con la poesia) e l'arte preistorica.Aim of this research’s draft is to understand the place and meaning of the Arts in the human frame and society. The main hypothesis is that the role of the Arts consists above all in producing objects of interpretation. This is not only a "role", actually, it is an identity and a meaning. Artworks are tools to be interpreted, meaningful structures that live only to be understood. The rule of the game is that the artwork must be per se significant (even when representing the senselessness of the world). Thus the artwork activates inevitably a call for interpretation (CFI), which is the fulfillment of its identity. Realizzazione di uno strato di rete per lo stack MaD-WiSe

Il lavoro svolto consiste nella realizzazione di uno strato di rete affidabile per reti di sensori. Lo stack protocollare in cui si va ad inserire (chiamato MaD-WiSe) è composto da un livello applicativo di gestione di query, un livello di trasporto nel quale si organizzano le connessioni, un livello di rete su cui sono implementate le comunicazioni tra i nodi. Le interrogazioni verso il database/rete di sensori avvengono tramite un’interfaccia utente: l’applicazione le gestisce e attraverso il livello di rete fa interagire i nodi. I servizi offerti dal livello di rete sono realizzati sfruttando l’interfaccia radio presente su ogni nodo. Al fine di garantire un’applicazione reale del MaD-WiSe, il network fornisce supporto al routing multi-hop. Un server invia comandi ad un nodo speciale chiamato sink, in base ai dati ricevuti dall’interfaccia utente e questo inoltra i messaggi verso gli altri nodi: la stessa gestione dei pacchetti è comunque identica in tutta la rete, che può quindi estendersi anche oltre il raggio di azione della ricetrasmittente di un singolo sensore. I protocolli definiti per sincronizzare i nodi con il server e per far funzionare efficacemente l’applicazione sono implementati tenendo in considerazione diverse topologie possibili. Un’ulteriore funzionalità è implementata con il modulo energy efficiency: dato che la gestione dell’energia è molto critica, è stato costruito un meccanismo per inserire dei periodi di radio sleep durante il ciclo di vita dei sensori. In particolare l’algoritmo fornito si propone di estendere questa durata mantenendo inalterate le funzioni riguardanti la corretta esecuzione dell’applicazione in ogni momento

An Investigation about Entailment and Narrative by AI Techniques (Generative Models)

Many storytelling generation problems concern the difficulty to model the sequence of sentences. Language models are generally able to assign high scores to well-formed text, especially in the cases of short texts, failing when they try to simulate human textual inference. Although in some cases output text automatically generated sounds as bland, incoherent, repetitive and unrelated to the context, in other cases the process reveals capability to surprise the reader, avoiding to be boring/predictable, even if the generated text satisfies entailment task requirements. The lyric tradition often does not proceed towards a real logical inference, but takes into account alternatives like the unexpectedness, useful for predicting when a narrative story will be perceived as interesting. To achieve a best comprehension of narrative variety, we propose a novel measure based on two components: inference and unexpectedness, whose different weights can modify the opportunity for readers to have different experiences about the functionality of a generated story. Metagenomic Characterization of the Human Intestinal Microbiota in Fecal Samples from STEC-Infected Patients

The human intestinal microbiota is a homeostatic ecosystem with a remarkable impact on human health and the disruption of this equilibrium leads to an increased susceptibility to infection by numerous pathogens. In this study, we used shotgun metagenomic sequencing and two different bioinformatic approaches, based on mapping of the reads onto databases and on the reconstruction of putative draft genomes, to investigate possible changes in the composition of the intestinal microbiota in samples from patients with Shiga Toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) infection compared to healthy and healed controls, collected during an outbreak caused by a STEC O26:H11 infection. Both the bioinformatic procedures used, produced similar result with a good resolution of the taxonomic profiles of the specimens. The stool samples collected from the STEC infected patients showed a lower abundance of the members of Bifidobacteriales and Clostridiales orders in comparison to controls where those microorganisms predominated. These differences seemed to correlate with the STEC infection although a flexion in the relative abundance of the Bifidobacterium genus, part of the Bifidobacteriales order, was observed also in samples from Crohn's disease patients, displaying a STEC-unrelated dysbiosis. The metagenomics also allowed to identify in the STEC positive samples, all the virulence traits present in the genomes of the STEC O26 that caused the outbreak as assessed through isolation of the epidemic strain and whole genome sequencing. The results shown represent a first evidence of the changes occurring in the intestinal microbiota of children in the course of STEC infection and indicate that metagenomics may be a promising tool for the culture-independent clinical diagnosis of the infection

Cross Cultural Adaptation and Validation of Italian Version of the Leeds Assessment of Neuropathic Symptoms and Signs Scale and Pain DETECT Questionnaire for the Distinction between Nociceptive and Neuropathic Pain

Objective. This study aimed to validate Italian versions of Leeds Assessment of Neuropathic Symptoms and Signs (LANSS) scale and Pain DETECT questionnaire (PD-Q) and evaluate the ability of these questionnaires to discriminate between nociceptive and neuropathic pain. Design. Multicenter prospective validation cohort study. Subjects and Setting. One hundred patients were included with a diagnosis formulated by a specialist in outpatient settings (50 affected by knee osteoarthritis as nociceptive pain and 50 affected by trigeminal or postherpetic neuralgia as neuropathic pain). Methods. The Italian versions of both questionnaires according to Italian cultural characteristics were performed according to the following steps: (1) translation of the questionnaires from English into Italian; (2) review by a bilingual individual for consistency; (3) proposed version after a mail round between experts; (4) backward translation; (5) comparison with the original English version by the experts; (6) approved version of the questionnaires. One hundred patients were enrolled and completed the two questionnaires administered by a specialist or blinded nursing staff, at the baseline and after 24/48 hours. Internal consistency, stability, validity, and discriminative power were analyzed. Results. Statistically significant differences were reported about the ability of both questionnaires to discriminate between patients affected by neuropathic or nociceptive pain. Internal consistency for the Italian version of the LANSS was 0.76, and for PD-Q, it was 0.80, assessed by Cronbach’s α; LANSS showed a good test-retest reliability with an ICC of 0.76, and PD-Q showed a high test-retest reliability with an ICC of 0.96. For interrater reliability, there was a concordance rate of 83.3% between reference diagnosis and LANSS (Cohen’s kappa = 0.67, CI 95% 0.52–0.75). Conclusions. This study validated the Italian versions of LANSS and PD-Q as reliable instruments with good psychometric characteristics, for pain evaluation, discriminating between nociceptive and neuropathic pain. Our findings were similar to those observed in the original study. Furthermore, we have reported the test-retest reliability for both questionnaires, not addressed in original validation studies
