Anger rumination, cognitive inflexibility and the development of relational and physical aggression in adolescence.
This literature review addresses how socio-cognitive theory may inform the understanding of childhood aggression. Though there are a range of approaches to the topic of aggression, the aim here is to focus on two specific cognitive theories: firstly, the hostile attributional bias (Dodge, 1980) which is an empirically robust theory of social cognition applied extensively to children and, secondly, anger rumination (Sukhodolsky, Golub and Cromwell, 2001), a cognitive style associated with aggressive behaviour in adults. The potential to adapt theories of adult cognition to children and adolescence, distinctions between relational and physical aggression and the importance of gender and methodology will be discussed
Are Causality Violations Undesirable?
Causality violations are typically seen as unrealistic and undesirable
features of a physical model. The following points out three reasons why
causality violations, which Bonnor and Steadman identified even in solutions to
the Einstein equation referring to ordinary laboratory situations, are not
necessarily undesirable. First, a space-time in which every causal curve can be
extended into a closed causal curve is singularity free--a necessary property
of a globally applicable physical theory. Second, a causality-violating
space-time exhibits a nontrivial topology--no closed timelike curve (CTC) can
be homotopic among CTCs to a point, or that point would not be causally well
behaved--and nontrivial topology has been explored as a model of particles.
Finally, if every causal curve in a given space-time passes through an event
horizon, a property which can be called "causal censorship", then that
space-time with event horizons excised would still be causally well behaved.Comment: Accepted in October 2008 by Foundations of Physics. Latex2e, 6 pages,

Analogue Models for T and CPT Violation in Neutral-Meson Oscillations
Analogue models for CP violation in neutral-meson systems are studied in a
general framework. No-go results are obtained for models in classical mechanics
that are nondissipative or that involve one-dimensional oscillators. A complete
emulation is shown to be possible for a two-dimensional oscillator with
rheonomic constraints, and an explicit example with spontaneous T and CPT
violation is presented. The results have implications for analogue models with
electrical circuits.Comment: 9 page
Topological Charged Black Holes in High Dimensional Spacetimes and Their Formation from Gravitational Collapse of a Type II Fluid
Topological charged black holes coupled with a cosmological constant in
spacetimes are studied, where is an Einstein
space of the form . The global structure for
the four-dimensional spacetimes with is investigated systematically.
The most general solutions that represent a Type fluid in such a high
dimensional spacetime are found, and showed that topological charged black
holes can be formed from the gravitational collapse of such a fluid. When the
spacetime is (asymptotically) self-similar, the collapse always forms black
holes for , in contrast to the case , where it can form
either balck holes or naked singularities.Comment: 14 figures, to appear in Phys. Rev.
Particle motion in the field of a five-dimensional charged black hole
In this paper, we have investigated the geodesics of neutral particles near a
five-dimensional charged black hole using a comparative approach. The effective
potential method is used to determine the location of the horizons and to study
radial and circular trajectories. This also helps us to analyze the stability
of radial and circular orbits. The radius of the innermost stable circular
orbits have also been determined. Contrary to the case of massive particles for
which, the circular orbits may have up to eight possible values of specific
radius, we find that the photons will only have two distinct values for the
specific radii of circular trajectories. Finally we have used the dynamical
systems analysis to determine the critical points and the nature of the
trajectories for the timelike and null geodesics.Comment: 15 pages, accepted for publication in Astrophysics and Space Scienc
The Gervais-Neveu-Felder equation and the quantum Calogero-Moser systems
We quantize the spin Calogero-Moser model in the -matrix formalism. The
quantum -matrix of the model is dynamical. This -matrix has already
appeared in Gervais-Neveu's quantization of Toda field theory and in Felder's
quantization of the Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov-Bernard equation.Comment: Comments and References adde
An action for the exact string black hole
A local action is constructed describing the exact string black hole
discovered by Dijkgraaf, Verlinde and Verlinde in 1992. It turns out to be a
special 2D Maxwell-dilaton gravity theory, linear in curvature and field
strength. Two constants of motion exist: mass M>1, determined by the level k,
and U(1)-charge Q>0, determined by the value of the dilaton at the origin. ADM
mass, Hawking temperature T_H \propto \sqrt{1-1/M} and Bekenstein-Hawking
entropy are derived and studied in detail. Winding/momentum mode duality
implies the existence of a similar action, arising from a branch ambiguity,
which describes the exact string naked singularity. In the strong coupling
limit the solution dual to AdS_2 is found to be the 5D Schwarzschild black
hole. Some applications to black hole thermodynamics and 2D string theory are
discussed and generalizations - supersymmetric extension, coupling to matter
and critical collapse, quantization - are pointed out.Comment: 41 pages, 2 eps figures, dedicated to Wolfgang Kummer on occasion of

Further restrictions on the topology of stationary black holes in five dimensions
We place further restriction on the possible topology of stationary
asymptotically flat vacuum black holes in 5 spacetime dimensions. We prove that
the horizon manifold can be either a connected sum of Lens spaces and "handles"
, or the quotient of by certain finite groups of
isometries (with no "handles"). The resulting horizon topologies include Prism
manifolds and quotients of the Poincare homology sphere. We also show that the
topology of the domain of outer communication is a cartesian product of the
time direction with a finite connected sum of 's
and 's, minus the black hole itself. We do not assume the existence of
any Killing vector beside the asymptotically timelike one required by
definition for stationarity.Comment: LaTex, 22 pages, 9 figure
Killing spectroscopy of closed timelike curves
We analyse the existence of closed timelike curves in spacetimes which
possess an isometry. In particular we check which discrete quotients of such
spaces lead to closed timelike curves. As a by-product of our analysis, we
prove that the notion of existence or non-existence of closed timelike curves
is a T-duality invariant notion, whenever the direction along which we apply
such transformations is everywhere spacelike. Our formalism is
straightforwardly applied to supersymmetric theories. We provide some new
examples in the context of D-branes and generalized pp-waves.Comment: 1+35 pages, no figures; v2, new references added. Final version to
