Higher dimensional radiation collapse and cosmic censorship
We study the occurrence of naked singularities in the spherically symmetric
collapse of radiation shells in a higher dimensional spacetime. The necessary
conditions for the formation of a naked singularity or a black hole are
obtained. The naked singularities are found to be strong in the Tipler's sense
and thus violating cosmic censorship conjecture.Comment: 4 pages, ReVTeX, Phys Rev D Vol 62 107502 (2000
N=2 Supersymmetric Planar Particles and Magnetic Interaction from Noncommutativity
We describe a N=2 supersymmetric extension of the nonrelativistic
(2+1)-dimensional model describing particles on the noncommutative plane with
scalar (electric) and vector (magnetic) interactions.
First, we employ the N=2 superfield technique and show that in the presence
of a scalar N=2 superpotential the magnetic interaction is implied by the
presence of noncommutativity of position variables. Further, by expressing the
supersymmetric Hamiltonian as a bilinear in N=2 supercharges we obtain two
supersymmetric models with electromagnetic interactions and two different
noncanonical symplectic structures describing noncommutativity. We show that
both models are related by a map of the Seiberg-Witten type.Comment: LaTeX,12 pages.Minor corrections; version appears in PL
Canonical theory of spherically symmetric spacetimes with cross-streaming null dusts
The Hamiltonian dynamics of two-component spherically symmetric null dust is
studied with regard to the quantum theory of gravitational collapse. The
components--the ingoing and outgoing dusts--are assumed to interact only
through gravitation. Different kinds of singularities, naked or "clothed", that
can form during collapse processes are described. The general canonical
formulation of the one-component null-dust dynamics by Bicak and Kuchar is
restricted to the spherically symmetric case and used to construct an action
for the two components. The transformation from a metric variable to the
quasilocal mass is shown to simplify the mathematics. The action is reduced by
a choice of gauge and the corresponding true Hamiltonian is written down.
Asymptotic coordinates and energy densities of dust shells are shown to form a
complete set of Dirac observables. The action of the asymptotic time
translation on the observables is defined but it has been calculated explicitly
only in the case of one-component dust (Vaidya metric).Comment: 15 pages, 3 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev.
BCS theory for s+g-wave superconductivity borocarbides Y(Lu)NiBC
The s+g mixed gap function \Delta_k=\Delta {[(1-x)-x\sin^4\theta\cos4\phi]}
(x: weight of g-wave component) has been studied within BCS theory. By suitable
consideration of the pairing interaction, we have confirmed that the
coexistence of s- and g-wave, as well as the state with equal s and g
amplitudes (i.e., x=1/2) may be stable. This provides the semi-phenomenological
theory for the s+g-wave superconductivity with point nodes which has been
observed experimentally in borocarbides YNi_2B_2C and possibly in LuNi_2B_2C.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
Non-adiabatic collapse of a quasi-spherical radiating star
A model is proposed of a collapsing quasi-spherical radiating star with
matter content as shear-free isotropic fluid undergoing radial heat-flow with
outgoing radiation. To describe the radiation of the system, we have considered
both plane symmetric and spherical Vaidya solutions. Physical conditions and
thermodynamical relations are studied using local conservation of momentum and
surface red-shift. We have found that for existence of radiation on the
boundary, pressure on the boundary is not necessary.Comment: 8 Latex pages, No figures, Revtex styl
Radiating black hole solutions in arbitrary dimensions
We prove a theorem that characterizes a large family of non-static solutions
to Einstein equations in -dimensional space-time, representing, in general,
spherically symmetric Type II fluid. It is shown that the best known
Vaidya-based (radiating) black hole solutions to Einstein equations, in both
four dimensions (4D) and higher dimensions (HD), are particular cases from this
family. The spherically symmetric static black hole solutions for Type I fluid
can also be retrieved. A brief discussion on the energy conditions,
singularities and horizons is provided.Comment: RevTeX 9 pages, no figure
Gravitational Collapse of Null Radiation and a String fluid
We consider the end state of collapsing null radiation with a string fluid.
It is shown that, if diffusive transport is assumed for the string, that a
naked singularity can form (at least locally). The model has the advantage of
not being asymptotically flat. We also analyse the case of a radiation-string
two-fluid and show that a locally naked singularity can result in the collapse
of such matter. We contrast this model with that of strange quark matter.Comment: RevTeX 4.0 (8 pages - no figures). submitted to Phys Rev D. Some

Nature of singularity formed by the gravitational collapse in Husain space-time with electromagnetic field and scalar field
In this work, we have investigated the outcome of gravitational collapse in
Husain space-time in the presence of electro-magnetic and a scalar field with
potential. In order to study the nature of the singularity, global behavior of
radial null geodesics have been taken into account. The nature of singularities
formed has been thoroughly studied for all possible variations of the
parameters. These choices of parameters has been presented in tabular form in
various dimensions. It is seen that irrespective of whatever values of the
parameters chosen, the collapse always results in a naked singularity in all
dimensions. There is less possibility of formation of a black hole. Hence this
work is a significant counterexample of the cosmic censorship hypothesis.Comment: 9 pages, 19 figure
Dynamics of Viscous Dissipative Plane Symmetric Gravitational Collapse
We present dynamical description of gravitational collapse in view of Misner
and Sharp's formalism. Matter under consideration is a complicated fluid
consistent with plane symmetry which we assume to undergo dissipation in the
form of heat flow, radiation, shear and bulk viscosity. Junction conditions are
studied for a general spacetime in the interior and Vaidya spacetime in the
exterior regions. Dynamical equations are obtained and coupled with causal
transport equations derived in context of Mller Israel Stewart
theory. The role of dissipative quantities over collapse is investigated.Comment: 17 pages, accepted for publication in Gen. Relativ. Gra
Magnetic Ordering and Superconductivity in the REIrGe (RE = Y, La-Tm, Lu) System
We find that the compounds for RE = Y, La-Dy, crystallize in the tetragonal
Ibam (UCoSi type) structure whereas the compounds for RE = Er-Lu,
crystallize in a new orthorhombic structure with a space group Pmmn. Samples of
HoIrGe were always found to be multiphase. The compounds for RE = Y
to Dy which adopt the Ibam type structure show a metallic resistivity whereas
the compounds with RE = Er, Tm and Lu show an anomalous behavior in the
resistivity with a semiconducting increase in as we go down in
temperature from 300K. Interestingly we had earlier found a positive
temperature coefficient of resistivity for the Yb sample in the same
temperature range. We will compare this behavior with similar observations in
the compounds RERuGe and REBiPt. LaIrGe and
YIrGe show bulk superconductivity below 1.8K and 2.5K respectively.
Our results confirm that CeIrGe shows a Kondo lattice behavior and
undergoes antiferromagnetic ordering below 8.5K. Most of the other compounds
containing magnetic rare-earth elements undergo a single antiferromagnetic
transition at low temperatures (T12K) while GdIrGe,
DyIrGe and NdIrGe show multiple transitions. The
T's for most of the compounds roughly scale with the de Gennes factor.
which suggests that the chief mechanism of interaction leading to the magnetic
ordering of the magnetic moments may be the RKKY interaction.Comment: 25 pages, 16 figure
