This study consisted of contributing to a better knowledge of honeydews. Data on the pace of plant foraging were observed in Lemfu (Locality of Madimba Territory) and Kanka (Locality of Mbanza-Ngungu Territory) in Kongo Central Province, from June 1, 2022 to May 31, 2023. Results reveal that Apis mellifera adansonii collects flowers every hour, continuously between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m., throughout the day and all months of observation. The daily average numbers at the flight hole vary from 125 to 513 ± 134 bees in Lemfu and 96 to 480 ± 134 in Kanka; and the monthly averages are 321±134 and 291±134 bees respectively. The pollen harvest, for which 24±20 and 21±18 bees remain the average monthly frequencies, is carried out at the same rate. It is weak around 1 p.m., practically zero from 3 p.m. and is carried out intensely between October and December, accumulating respectively 64% and 60% of all pollen carriers, the average proportions of which vary from 5 to 12%. Obviously, the absolute frequencies of foragers do not impact variations in occupancy and pollen transport. The periods from June to August and from October to December remain those of the great honey flow in Lemfu and Kanka respectively. While the periods February, March and April, May respectively represent those of the small honey flow. It appears interesting that these observations are repeated on other sites in our study area in order to obtain more representative data. However, mastering these indicative results is recommended for a good overview over the months, in order to establish a consistent beekeeping calendar.

La neuropathie sensitive disséminée de Wartenberg.

We studied ten cases of disseminated sensory neuropathy. Both sexes were similarly involved. Except in one case, the first symptoms appeared between ages 20 and 50. The clinical disorders, their evolution and similar cases previously reported suggest and autonomous benign disease. The deficits resulted from a selective involvement of superficial cutaneous nervous fibers and appeared in different cutaneous areas. Some territories were more frequently affected (nervus peroneus, sural, radialis, cutaneous femoralis lateralis). Tinel's sign was often present. Patients sometimes described a sensation of electric discharge when elongating nerve trunks. In half of the cases the attacks of dysesthesia or of sensory loss followed one another within less than one year. The deficits were fully reversible in a third of the cases after a mean total evolution of 4 to 8 years. Blood and cerebrospinal fluid were always normal. Electromyography and motor conduction velocities were normal. Sensory conduction velocities were uncommonly decreased. On the other hand, the aspect of somesthetic potentials which were evoked from cutaneous areas involved by the disease were modified in most cases. Pathological examination of nerve biopsies which were performed in 5 cases showed non specific axo-myelinic degeneration in 3 cases and a severe sclerosis of the perineurium in one case. The etiopathogenesis of the disease is discussed

Brain metabolism in mitochondrial encephalomyopathy: a PET study.

Regional brain glucose metabolism has been studied in a case of mitochondrial encephalomyopathy with ragged red fibers, using positron emission tomography with fluorodeoxyglucose as the tracer. A marked decrease in glucose utilization was found in all gray structures, with a preponderance of metabolic alterations in posterior cortical regions and thalamus and a relative sparing of anterior cortical areas and basal nuclei

Otitis media in a 43 year-old male patient was followed by signs of chronic meningitis with persistent headaches, moderate pleiomorphic lymphocytosis of CSF without hypoglycorrhachia and unilateral impairment of cranial nerves XI to II. These signs were accompanied by widespread inflammation with general deterioration of the patient's condition. After a time the tentorium of cerebellum showed thickening and significant contrast uptake in conjunction with necrotizing granulomatous inflammation, indicating tentorial pachymeningitis. Swift and complete remission was obtained with a corticoid-cyclophosphamide combination. After reviewing the other possible causes of chronic meningitis, the authors proposed a diagnosis of Wegener's disease of auricular origin in view of the compatibility of all the data. A few cases of cranial pachymeningitis of indeterminate origin are described in the literature. Only this patient was treated with a corticoid-cyclophosphamide combination. The remarkable efficacy of this double therapy confirms the diagnostic hypothesis of Wegener's granulomatosis

Effect of Equine-Assisted Activities on Social and Sensory Functioning of Children with Autism

Abstract This is a replication, randomized control trial, that investigated the therapeutic effects of a 12-week equine-assisted (EA) intervention on the social and sensory functioning of children with autism. Reliability and stability of parent and teacher reports of children’s social and sensory functioning across three assessment times were assessed, in support of the validity of observed outcomes. Furthermore, it was hypothesized that children in the EA group (n = 25) would significantly improve, relative to a wait-list control group (n = 25), in both domains of functioning. Results indicated that reports were reliable, and children in the experimental group improved in overall social and sensory functioning, as well as within specific subdomains, with “unblinded” assessment methods. Relative to the pre-assessment scores, children improved in functioning in specific areas at post-assessment and 8-weeks post-intervention. Therefore, results of the study suggest EA activities may be a beneficial modality for delivering autism-specific treatment strategies

The authors report a case of Wegener's granulomatosis unusual for its initial signs. The first evidence of disease consisted in pains in the lower limbs, probably caused by inflammatory processes involving the fascia. Biochemical, radiological and histological examinations allowed the diagnosis to be made

An All-Weather Land Surface Temperature Product Based on MSG/SEVIRI Observations

A new all-weather land surface temperature (LST) product derived at the Satellite Application Facility on Land Surface Analysis (LSA-SAF) is presented. It is the first all-weather LST product based on visible and infrared observations combining clear-sky LST retrieved from the Spinning Enhanced Visible and Infrared Imager on Meteosat Second Generation (MSG/SEVIRI) infrared (IR) measurements with LST estimated with a land surface energy balance (EB) model to fill gaps caused by clouds. The EB model solves the surface energy balance mostly using products derived at LSA-SAF. The new product is compared with in situ observations made at 3 dedicated validation stations, and with a microwave (MW)-based LST product derived from Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer-Earth Observing System (AMSR-E) measurements. The validation against in-situ LST indicates an accuracy of the new product between -0.8 K and 1.1 K and a precision between 1.0 K and 1.4 K, generally showing a better performance than the MW product. The EB model shows some limitations concerning the representation of the LST diurnal cycle. Comparisons with MW LST generally show higher LST of the new product over desert areas, and lower LST over tropical regions. Several other imagers provide suitable measurements for implementing the proposed methodology, which oers the potential to obtain a global, nearly gap-free LST product
