    Background: The problems of rhinosinusitis and nasal polyposis have been discussed further back in time. Nature of nasal polyps is diverse. Therapeutical approaches back then were original and strange in some cases. Connections with rhino-sinu-nasal pathologies have been proven in patients with obstructive sleep apnea. Data shows that OSA severity is directly related to the response of the tissues in the area.Materials and methods: Scientific databases – PubMed, SCOPUS and MEDLINE were used to search for gathering the data in need. The following keywords rhinosinusitis, nasal polyposis, treatment. Information and data from the official websites of the organizing committees has been used. The aim of the following article is to study the history of rhinosinusitis and nasal polyposis diagnosis and treatment development.Results and discussion: Acute and chronic rhinosinusitis and nasal polyposis are conditions more frequently diagnosed nowadays, due to the multifactorial etiology they are linked to. Authors have been continuously working on the field, more abruptly since the year of 2000. A number of scientific events have been organized, where clinicians reached to consensus and issued guidelines on how the mentioned conditions should be treated. FESS and computer aided surgeries have been in the focus in the last 10 years.Conclusions: Rhino-sinu-nasal pathology is directly related to the quality of life of patients affected. Therefore, clinicians should continue working in the field, and investigating the root causes of the disorders. More attention is to be brought on the allergic etiology, often main cause of the nasal pathologies

    Neurofibromas in otorhinolaryngology. Literature review presentation of a rare clinical case of intramastoid solitary neurofibroma

    Neurofibromas are precancerous neoplasms originating from the sheaths of peripheral nerves with a slow growth rate. A large proportion of cases (90%) are solitary tumors, while the rest (10%) are associated with the manifestation of neurofibromatosis type 1 (Morbus Recklinghausen) - an autosomal dominant genetic inherited disease. This type of tumor is relatively rare in the head and neck region. It involves mainly the skin and subcutaneous tissue of the trunkus, and represents about 5% of all benign soft tissue neoplasms. In the available english articles 22 cases of intratemporal solitary neurofibroma have been reported of which only 2 were intramastoid. We present a rare clinical case of a solitary intramastoid neurofibroma in a 39-year-old woman mimicking the clinical representation of latent mastoiditis with a brief literature review

    Historical development of methods for diagnosis and treatment of OSA

    Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) has been known to mankind since ancient times. Medical  documents from 2000 years ago that have been found contain information describing severe snoring (apnea) characteristic of OSA. In order to obtain the information targeted research was carried out in the Scientific databases PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, Web of Science. „History of OSA”, „CPAP”, „Polysomnography” keywords were used in for the search.The aim of this article is to present the historical development of methods for diagnosis and treatment of OSA. In 1981 Sullivan et al. published in the Lancet scientific paper on Obstructive Sleep Apnea “ Reversal of obstructive sleep apnea by continuous airway pressure applied through the nares “ . At the end of the XIX th century, the term “Pickwickian syndrome” was introduced in the medical literature. In 1965, the polysomnographic unit was created and for the first time, with the help of electronic device, sleep apnea was registered in patients. Eventually ambulatory sleep testing was introduced as an alternative to polysomnography. Apnea Graph is a new innovative ambulatory sleep analysis tool that identifies the location of snoring obstruction and OSA. It also determines the type of OSA. In 1981, the first CPAP for treatment OSA was created. Sullivan’s findings prove that CPAP is a very effective device for treating OSA

    A natural embedding Am1An1Amn1A_{m-1}\oplus A_{n-1}\subset A_{mn-1} for the corresponding quantum algebras is constructed through the appropriate comultiplication on the generators of each of the Am1A_{m-1} and An1A_{n-1} algebras. The above embedding is proved in their qq-boson realization by means of the isomorphism between the Aq\mathcal{A}_q^{-} (mn)nAq\sim {\otimes} ^n \mathcal{A}_q^{-}(m)mAq\sim {\otimes}^m\mathcal{A}_q^{-}(n) algebras.Comment: 11 pages, no figures.     Staggering behavior of the low lying excited states of even-even nuclei in a Sp(4,R) classification scheme

    We implement a high order discrete derivative analysis of the low lying collective energies of even-even nuclei with respect to the total number of valence nucleon pairs N in the framework of F- spin multiplets appearing in a symplectic sp(4,R) classification scheme. We find that for the nuclei of any given F- multiplet the respective experimental energies exhibit a Delta N=2 staggering behavior and for the nuclei of two united neighboring F- multiplets well pronounced Delta N=1 staggering patterns are observed. Those effects have been reproduced successfully through a generalized sp(4,R) model energy expression and explained in terms of the step-like changes in collective modes within the F- multiplets and the alternation of the F-spin projection in the united neighboring multiplets. On this basis we suggest that the observed Delta N=2 and Delta N=1 staggering effects carry detailed information about the respective systematic manifestation of both high order alpha - particle like quartetting of nucleons and proton (neutron) pairing interaction in nuclei.PACS number(s):21.10.Re, 21.60.FwComment: 22 pages and 6 figures changes in the figure caption

    Modelling of interactions of polar and nonpolar pollutants with soil minerals and soil organic matter

    Environmental pollution of soils by organic contaminants such as pesticides is one of the serious problems of our civilization. Contaminants can undergo various physical, chemical and biological transformation processes in soils governing behaviour, distribution, and fate of organic species in environment and subsequent environmental risks. Mechanistic understanding of molecular interactions of organic pollutants with main soil components represents a key factor for estimating the behaviour of contaminants in soils. Molecular modelling offers an opportunity to investigate and characterize various details of these interactions at molecular level providing specifications, which are difficult to obtain at the experimental level. This work represents a comprehensive overview of our investigations of the molecular interactions of organic contaminants with selected soil components. Particularly, we focused on the characterization of the structure and the surface complexation of the phenoxyacetic acid derivatives (herbicides MCPA and 2,4-D) and typical soil minerals such as clay minerals (kaolinite and montmorillonite) and iron oxyhydroxides (goethite and lepidocrocite). Further, interactions of several representative nonpolar polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (e.g. naphthalene, anthracene, pyrene, and phenanthrene) with iron oxyhydroxides were modelled, as well. It was found that in case of polar species, hydrogen bonds and electrostatic interactions play an important role in the formation of the surface complexes. In case of nonpolar PAHs, dispersion forces dominate in the planar stacking of the PAHs molecules on mineral surfaces. Another study focused at a complex 3D model representing humic substances firstly, featuring polar hydrophilic and nonpolar hydrophobic domains and also a nanopore SOM structure. This model was taken to simulate trapping and interactions of MCPA (polar) and naphthalene (nonpolar) species inside of the nanopore. It was found that MCPA is preferentially stabilized close to polar functional groups (carboxyl) whereas naphthalene interacts mostly with nonpolar aliphatic chains through dispersion interactions
