More about Less. Fast Speech Phonology: the Cases of French and Dutch

    Get PDF
Contains fulltext : 32041_moreable.pdf (publisher's version ) (Open Access)This thesis treats two different phenomena of fast speech: vowel reduction in Dutch, and schwa deletion in French. For both, an overview of the existing literature is presented. Next, these data are tested in two corpora: the Corpus Gesproken Nederlands for Dutch, and the PFC corpus for French. Finally, an analysis in Optimality Theory is provided, taking into account the linguistic variation found in the two corpora.Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen, 29 januari 2008Promotores : Jacobs, H.M.G.M., Laks, B.M.XIV, 293 p
