Automating ATLAS Computing Operations using the Site Status Board
The automation of operations is essential to reduce manpower costs and improve the reliability of the system. The Site Status Board (SSB) is a framework which allows Virtual Organizations to monitor their computing activities at distributed sites and to evaluate site performance. The ATLAS experiment intensively uses SSB for the distributed computing shifts, for estimating data processing and data transfer efficiencies at a particular site, and for implementing automatic exclusion of sites from computing activities, in case of potential problems. ATLAS SSB provides a real-time aggregated monitoring view and keeps the history of the monitoring metrics. Based on this history, usability of a site from the perspective of ATLAS is calculated. The presentation will describe how SSB is integrated in the ATLAS operations and computing infrastructure and will cover implementation details of the ATLAS SSB sensors and alarm system, based on the information in SSB. It will demonstrate the positive impact of the use of SSB on the overall performance of ATLAS computing activities and will overview future plans
Russian VLBI network âQuasarâ: Current status and outlook
This paper presents the past, present and future status of the Russian VLBI network âQuasarâ. This network has been developed for at least 20 years by the Institute of Applied Astronomy of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IAA RAS). The equipment installed currently at each âQuasarâ station and the facilities for processing observational data are described briefly. The latest results are presented, including the Earth orientation parameters (EOP) determined from the âQuasarâ VLBI data and comparison with those from other processing centers. Our future plans to extend the âQuasarâ VLBI network to the east and to the west will be carried out by establishing the Ussurijsk station in the Far East and the Russian-Cuban station in the west. They are considered in the context of the Russian section activity in the GGOS project. The expected improvement of the EOP determination accuracy can be obtained within the future configuration of the âQuasarâ network, which is proved by simulation. Charged Particle Identification using the Liquid Xenon Calorimeter of the CMD-3 Detector
This paper describes a currently being developed procedure of the charged particle identification for CMD-3 detector, installed at the VEPP-2000 collider. The procedure is based on the application of the boosted decision trees classification method, and uses as input variables, among others, the specific energy losses of charged particle in the layers of the liquid Xenon calorimeter. The efficiency of the procedure is demonstrated by an example of the extraction of events of e+e- to K+K- process in the center of mass energy range from 1.8 to 2.0 GeV
