Reliability modeling of a 1-out-of-2 system: Research with diverse Off-the-shelf SQL database servers
Fault tolerance via design diversity is often the only viable way of achieving sufficient dependability levels when using off-the-shelf components. We have reported previously on studies with bug reports of four open-source and commercial off-the-shelf database servers and later release of two of them. The results were very promising for designers of fault-tolerant solutions that wish to employ diverse servers: very few bugs caused failures in more than one server and none caused failure in more than two. In this paper we offer details of two approaches we have studied to construct reliability growth models for a 1-out-of-2 fault-tolerant server which utilize the bug reports. The models presented are of practical significance to system designers wishing to employ diversity with off-the-shelf components since often the bug reports are the only direct dependability evidence available to them
Rehabilitation Works Of The Existing Asphalt Pavement And Connecting The Existing Asphalt Pavement With The Newly Constructed Pavement, Motorway E-75, Section Tabanovce - Kumanovo From Km 0+764.70 To Km 8+388.43, Part Of The Corridor X
The Corridor X is part of the pan-European network of corridors. The starting point of the corridor is in Salzburg, Austria and the end point is in Thessaloniki, Greece. The corridor passes through Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Macedonia and Greece. The Construction of the Corridor is supported by the international financing institutions like the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD). The paper refers to one of the sections in R. Macedonia that is under the construction, section between Tabanovce and Kumanovo in length of 7.62 km.Part of the pavement works consisted of rehabilitation of the existing pavement with applying polymer grids, specially designed for such purpose. In the paper the entire procedure of the pavement design will be presented, with particular attention on the quality requirements of the materials that should be for the road construction. Numerical analysis of the pavement was accomplished using the software package PLAXIS. The results of these analyses are presented in the paper, namely: stress fields and zones where the plasticity limit of the materials was reached. The cross section was treated with and without polymer grids. The number of the polymer grids in the cross section was also varied, as well as its location. The presented procedure of the pavement design coul
Levels of self-reported depression and anxiety among HIV-positive patients in Albania: a cross-sectional study
Aim To gain an initial perspective of mental health issues
facing the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)-positive
population at the University Hospital Center of Tirana
(UHCT) HIV/AIDS Ambulatory Clinic.
Methods From June-August 2009, we conducted semistructured
interviews with 79 patients (93% response rate)
at the UHCT HIV/AIDS Ambulatory Clinic. The interviews
assessed patient-reported histories of mental health diagnoses,
patients’ demographics, and current emotional
health status.
Results The percentage of patients who reported a history
of diagnosis of depression or anxiety was high – 62.3%
and 82.3%, respectively. Factors associated with a history
of depression included having been diagnosed with anxiety
(P < 0.001), having a higher number of barriers to care
(P < 0.001), having a higher number of current medical and
social needs (P < 0.001), or having not obtained antiretroviral
therapy (ART) abroad (P = 0.004). Factors associated
with a history of anxiety included having been on firstline
ART (P = 0.008), having been diagnosed with HIV for
shorter periods of time (P = 0.043), having been diagnosed
with depression (P < 0.001), having a higher number of current
medical and social needs (P = 0.035), or having not obtained
ART abroad (P = 0.003).
Conclusions Mental health problems are widespread
among the known HIV-positive patient population in Albania.
The high prevalences of anxiety and depression
and of dual diagnoses of these conditions suggest the
need for more mental health care for HIV-positive patients
in Albania
Energy and decay width of the pi-K atom
The energy and decay width of the pi-K atom are evaluated in the framework of
the quasipotential-constraint theory approach. The main electromagnetic and
isospin symmetry breaking corrections to the lowest-order formulas for the
energy shift from the Coulomb binding energy and for the decay width are
calculated. They are estimated to be of the order of a few per cent. We display
formulas to extract the strong interaction S-wave pi-K scattering lengths from
future experimental data concerning the pi-K atom.Comment: 37 pages, 5 figures, uses Axodra
COVID-19 mental health care toolkit: an international collaborative effort by Early Career Psychiatrists section
The collaborative effort of an international research team from the Early Career Psychiatrists section of the World Psychiatry Association has brought about an easy-to-use, quick and stepwise mental health care toolkit for the identification and appropriate referral of those in need of mental health care during the pandemic. This simple guide can be applied in the general outpatient setting and is catered for all healthcare professionals, regardless of their expertise within the mental health field with minimal training. It is our hope that by incorporating this toolkit into our daily clinical care during the pandemic for high-risk patients and patients with non-specific complaints, we will be able to bridge the mental health gap present in our society
Finite-size effect on two-particle production in continuous and discrete spectrum
The formalism allowing one to account for the effect of a finite space-time
extent of particle production region is given. Its applications to the lifetime
measurement of hadronic atoms produced by a high-energy beam in a thin target,
as well as to the femtoscopy techniques widely used to measure space-time
characteristics of the production processes, are discussed. Particularly, it is
found that the neglect of the finite-size effect on the pionium lifetime
measurement in the experiment DIRAC at CERN could lead to the lifetime
overestimation comparable with the 10% statistical error. The theoretical
systematic errors arising in the calculation of the finite-size effect due to
the neglect of non-equal emission times in the pair center-of-mass system, the
space-time coherence and the residual charge are shown to be negligible.Comment: LaTeX, 77 pages including 5 tables and 18 figures. Somewhat extended

(Pi+Pi-) Atom in Chiral Perturbation Theory
Hadronic (Pi+Pi-) atom is studied in the relativistic perturbative approach
based on the Bethe-Salpeter equation. The general expression for the atom
lifetime is derived. Lowest-order corrections to the relativistic Deser-type
formula for the atom lifetime are evaluated within the Chiral Perturbation
Theory.Comment: 36 pages, LaTeX-file (revtex.sty
Compound double ileoileal and ileocecocolic intussusception caused by lipoma of the ileum in an adult patient: A case report

Abstract

Introduction

The initial diagnosis of intussusception in adults very often can be missed and cause delayed treatment and possible serious complications. We report the case of an adult patient with complicated double ileoileal and ileocecocolic intussusception.

Case presentation

A 46-year-old Caucasian man was transferred from the gastroenterology service to the abdominal surgery service with severe abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. An abdominal ultrasound, barium enema, and abdominal computed tomography scan revealed an intraluminal obstruction of his ascending colon. Plain abdominal X-rays showed diffuse air-fluid levels in his small intestine. A double ileoileal and ileocecocolic intussusception was found during an emergent laparotomy. A right hemicolectomy, including resection of a long segment of his ileum, was performed. The postoperative period was complicated by acute renal failure, shock liver, and pulmonary thromboembolism. Our patient was discharged from the hospital after 30 days. An anatomical pathology examination revealed a lipoma of his ileum.

Conclusions

Intussusception in adults requires early surgical resection regardless of the nature of the initial cause. Delayed treatment can cause very serious complications.</p
