Recent QCD Results from LEP-1 and LEP-2

A summary is given of some recent QCD results from LEP. For LEP-2, the topics include event shape measurements, determinations of the strong coupling constant, and measurements of the charged particle multiplicity distribution at the recently completed run at 189 GeV. For LEP-1, the topics presented are a test of the flavor independence of the strong coupling constant and a study of gluon jets using a hemisphere definition to correspond to analytic calculations. Tests of QCD using differences between gluon and quark jets

I present recent results from LEP which utilize differences between gluon and quark jets to make quantitative tests of QCD. The principal topic is a determination of the ratio of QCD color factors, C$_{\mathrm{A}}$/C$_{\mathrm{F}}$, using either the multiplicity or fragmentation functions of the jets. The Issue of Globalization-An Overview

[From Summary] In the 1990s, globalization gained widespread usage as a term with many interpretations. Globalism is employed in this report to describe networks of interdependence functioning at multi-continental distances. Globalization is an increase in globalism and de-globalization a reduction. In providing an introductory view of these networks, with an emphasis on contemporary economic factors, a goal of this report is to illustrate how policy consequences, sometimes unintended, may be dispersed via globalized networks. As networks expand and become more intricate there is an opportunity for feedback along previously non-existent linkages

Testimony Submitted to the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary: The Uniting American Families Act, Addressing Inequality in Federal Immigration Law

A large body of research has shown that same-sex "unmarried partners" identified in the U.S. Census are primarily composed of lesbian and gay couples. The Census includes questions about citizenship status and country of origin and offers valuable information about same-sex couples who may be affected by UAFA. A 2005 report entitled "Bi-national Same-sex Unmarried Partners in Census 2000: A Demographic Portrait" provides important information about the size and demographic characteristics of bi-national same-sex couples where one partner is a U.S. citizen and the other is not.
