    Tachyon Couplings to Fermion

By fixing the internal CP factor of tachyon and massless Ramond vertex operators in different pictures, we have shown that the internal CP factor of the disk level S-matrix elements of two fermions and odd number of tachyon vertex operators in the world volume of non-BPS D-branes/D-brane-anti-D-brane is zero. We have calculated the S-matrix element of two fermions and two tachyons which has non vanishing internal CP factor, and found the momentum expansion of this amplitude. In the abelian case, we have compared the two-fermion-two-tachyon coupling at low energy with the corresponding coupling in the gauge-fixed supersymmetric tachyon DBI action. The couplings in the two cases are exactly the same.Comment: 16 pages, latex file; V2:a missing term in the modified tachyon DBI action adde

    Tachyon Tunnelling in D-brane-anti-D-brane

Using the tachyon DBI action proposal for the effective theory of non-coincident Dp_p-brane-anti-Dp_p-brane system, we study the decay of this system in the tachyon channel. We assume that the branes separation is held fixed, i.e. no throat formation, and then find the bounce solution which describe the decay of the system from false to the true vacuum of the tachyon potential. We shall show that due to the non-standard form of the kinetic term in the effective action, the thin wall approximation for calculating the bubble nucleation rate gives a result which is independent of the branes separation. This unusual result might indicate that the true decay of this metastable system should be via a solution that represents a throat formation as well as the tachyon tunneling.Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures, Latex file, minor changes, reference adde

The solution of tachyon inflation in curved universe

In this paper, we have considered the curved universe which is filled by tachyonic field. We have found the exact solutions for the field, pressure, density, and scale factor and some cosmological parameters. In such universe, we have investigated the role of tachyonic field in different stages of k for the evolution of the universe. Finally we draw the graphs for the scale factor, Hubble's parameter, energy density, pressure, acceleration parameter, equation of state and potential for the different values of k. Also we obtained the exact form of field which shows that the tachyonic field has the kink form.Comment: 8 pages, 21 figure

    Nonabelian D-branes and Noncommutative Geometry

We discuss the nonabelian world-volume action which governs the dynamics of N coincident Dp-branes. In this theory, the branes' transverse displacements are described by matrix-valued scalar fields, and so this is a natural physical framework for the appearance of noncommutative geometry. One example is the dielectric effect by which Dp-branes may be polarized into a noncommutative geometry by external fields. Another example is the appearance of noncommutative geometries in the description of intersecting D-branes of differing dimensions, such as D-strings ending on a D3- or D5-brane. We also describe the related physics of giant gravitons.Comment: 21 pages, Latex, ref. adde

Excited D-brane decay in Cubic String Field Theory and in Bosonic String Theory

    Get PDF
In the cubic string field theory, using the gauge invariant operators corresponding to the on-shell closed string vertex operators, we have explicitly evaluated the decay amplitudes of two open string tachyons or gauge fields to one closed string tachyon or graviton up to level two. We then evaluated the same amplitudes in the bosonic string theory, and shown that the amplitudes in both theories have exactly the same pole structure. We have also expanded the decay amplitudes in the bosonic string theory around the Mandelstam variable s=0, and shown that their leading contact terms are fully consistent with a tachyonic Dirac-Born-Infeld action which includes both open string and closed string tachyon.Comment: 19 pages, Latex, v3; references added, some words about contact terms are adde

    Winding effects on brane/anti-brane pairs

We study a brane/anti-brane configuration which is separated along a compact direction by constructing a tachyon effective action which takes into account transverse scalars. Such an action is relevant in the study of HQCD model of Sakai and Sugimoto of chiral symmetry breaking, where the size of the compact circle sets the confinement scale. Our approach is motivated by string theory orbifold constructions and gives a route to model inhomogeneous tachyon decay. We illustrate the techniques involved with a relatively simple example of a harmonic oscillator on a circle. We will then repeat the analysis for the Sakai-Sugimoto model and show that by integrating out the winding modes will provide us with a renormalized action with a lower energy than that of truncating to zero winding sector.Comment: 21 pages, 3 figures. v3: discussion and references added, published versio

Kinky D-branes and straight strings of open string tachyon effective theory

In this letter we construct the kink D1-brane super D-helix solution and its T-dual the D2-brane supertube using the effective action of non-BPS tachyonic D-branes . In the limit of zero angular momentum, both types of solutions collapse to zero radius, giving rise respectively to a degenerate string configuration corresponding to a particle travelling with the speed of light and to a static straight string configuration. These solutions share all the properties of fundamental strings and do not have the pathological behavior of other solutions previously found in this context. A short discussion on the ``generalized gauge transformations'' suggested by Sen is used to justify the validity of our approach.Comment: 10 pages, latex, typos corrected and references adde

Cosmology from Rolling Massive Scalar Field on the anti-D3 Brane of de Sitter Vacua

We investigate a string-inspired scenario associated with a rolling massive scalar field on D-branes and discuss its cosmological implications. In particular, we discuss cosmological evolution of the massive scalar field on the ant-D3 brane of KKLT vacua. Unlike the case of tachyon field, because of the warp factor of the anti-D3 brane, it is possible to obtain the required level of amplitude of density perturbations. We study the spectra of scalar and tensor perturbations generated during the rolling scalar inflation and show that our scenario satisfies the observational constraint coming from the Cosmic Microwave Background anisotropies and other observational data. We also implement the negative cosmological constant arising from the stabilization of the modulus fields in the KKLT vacua and find that this leads to a successful reheating in which the energy density of the scalar field effectively scales as a pressureless dust. The present dark energy can be also explained in our scenario provided that the potential energy of the massive rolling scalar does not exactly cancel with the amplitude of the negative cosmological constant at the potential minimum.Comment: RevTex4, 15 pages, 5 eps figures, minor clarifications and few references added, final version to appear in PR

The Entropy Function for the Black Holes of Nariai Class

Based on the fact that the near horizon geometry of the extremal Schwarzschild-de Sitter black holes is Nariai geometry, we define the black holes of Nariai class as the configuration whose near-horizon geometry is factorized as two dimensional de Sitter space-time and some compact topology, that is Nariai geometry. We extend the entropy function formalism to the case of the black holes of Nariai class. The conventional entropy function (for the extremal black holes) is defined as Legendre transformation of Lagrangian density, thus the `Routhian density', over two dimensional anti-de Sitter. As for the black holes of Nariai class, it is defined as {\em minus} `Routhian density' over two dimensional de Sitter space-time. We found an exact agreement of the result with Bekenstein-Hawking entropy. The higher order corrections are nontrivial only when the space-time dimension is over four, that is, d>4d>4. There is a subtlety as regards the temperature of the black holes of Nariai class. We show that in order to be consistent with the near horizon geometry, the temperature should be non-vanishing despite the extremality of the black holes.Comment: references added, compatible with the published versio

More on WZ action of non-BPS branes

We calculate the disk level S-matrix element of one Ramond-Ramond, two gauge fields and one tachyon vertex operators in the world volume of non-BPS branes. We then find the momentum expansion of this amplitude and show that the infinite tachyon/massless poles and the contact terms of this amplitude can be reproduced by the tachyon DBI and the WZ actions, and by their higher derivative corrections.Comment: 17 pages, no figure
