    Borehole Resistivity Inversion

    Get PDF
In this paper we perform the inversion of borehole resistivity data using the software package developed by Western Atlas Logging Services, Houston, TX. Direct current resistivity methods, namely lateral sounding and conventional laterolog methods, are the main interest in this paper. In resistive formations drilled with a conductive mud, where induction methods are not logged, it becomes imperative to combine these two methods in order to provide a reliable solution to the inversion problem. Lateral sounding provides comprehensive information about the resistivity distribution away from the borehole, while the higher resolution of the laterolog allows for detailed delineation of the formation. We perform the inversion computationally using the constrained least-squares Marquardt algorithm combined with singular value decomposition. The nonlinear inversion problem is linearized after each iteration of the Marquardt method. One of the main benefits of the algorithm is its ability to incorporate all resistivity/conductivity methods into a unique solution that is able to explain and satisfy all measurements. Several levels of inversion analysis are considered, from one-dimensional inversion to a rigorous and comprehensive two-dimensional approach. We demonstrate the method with multiple synthetic examples in which the algorithm successfully recovers the formation parameters. Different noise levels, resistivity contrasts, borehole conditions, and initial guesses are considered. We then apply the method to field data consisting of lateral sounding logs and laterologs. The inversion results are then checked against the available sampling data

Purpose: The paper is devoted to the study of verbalizing the social and cultural notion "family" in the second volume of the novel “War and Peace” by L. Tolstoy and the novel “In Chancery” by J. Galsworthy. It describes the stylistic devices enabling to realize positive and negative connotative components of the meaning of linguistic units verbalizing the notion “family”. Methodology: In order to achieve the goal of our research we conducted a thorough comparative analysis of the texts of the works under study. Result: The results of our study allow us to draw a conclusion regarding the linguistic means enabling to realize ameliorative and pejorative connotative components in the meaning of the word “family” used in combination with it. Furthermore, the evidence from this study allowed us to compare the images of the British and Russian in the studied works represented by the analyzed linguistic means. Applications: This research can be used for universities, teachers, and students. Novelty/Originality: In this research, the model of Verbalization of “Family” as a Cultural Notion in the Novels “War and Peace” BY L. Tolstoy and “In Chancery” by J. Galsworthy is presented in a comprehensive and complete manner

Toxic action of petroleum and oil processing products on Daphnia magna straus

The kinetics of spontaneous transformations in crude oil (forming fractions and film, sorption, evaporation) in the aquatic medium was under laboratory studies. There have been stated the degrees of toxicity of crude oil, diesel fuel, and gasoline (petrol) to laboratory culture of D. magna. Bioassays with daphnia may be recommended to reveal the presence of petroleum and products of its processing in the water

Purpose: The article conducts the study socio-cultural conditions of educational environment development. Methodology: The criteria for assessing the quality of synchronization actions of heads of educational institutions are determined as well as the criteria for assessing the quality of inter-agency cooperation and self-organization of actors of educational systems and the cooperation among themselves. Result: We found out that the current process of educational environment development is in crisis at the level of goal-setting; selection of approaches and principles, forms, methods, and means; selection of criteria for the effectiveness of actors’ activities. Applications: This research can be used for universities, teachers, and students. Novelty/Originality: In this research, the model of socio-cultural conditions of educational environment development is presented in a comprehensive and complete manner

On the solvability of geometrically nonlinear problem of sandwich plate theory

© 2015 I. B. Badriev et al. The problem of determining the stress-strain state rigidly fixed sandwich plate with transversely soft core in the presence of constraints (i.e., material nonlinearity) corresponding to the ideal elastic-plastic model for the core material is considered. Solvability of the generalized statement of the problem as a problem of finding the saddle point of some functionals is investigated

Solving physically nonlinear equilibrium problems for sandwich plates with a transversally soft core

© 2015, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd. A generalized statement of the problem of determining the stress-strain state of sandwich plates with a transversally soft core in the presence of constraints is proposed. Its correctness is discussed. The generalized problem is stated as the problem of finding a saddle point of some functional. The existence and uniqueness of a solution is proved. An iterative method for solving the problem is proposed and its convergence is studied

Structural transformations during swelling of polycomplex matrices based on countercharged (meth)acrylate copolymers (Eudragit® EPO/Eudragit® L 100-55)

With a view to the application in oral controlled drug delivery systems (DDS), the design of new interpolyelectrolyte complexes (IPECs) between countercharged types of Eudragit® EPO (EPO) and Eudragit® L 100-55 (L100-55) was investigated. The formation and composition of four new IPECs between EPO and L100-55 were established by elementary analysis. The structure of the synthesized IPEC was investigated using FTIR spectroscopy and modulated-temperature differential scanning calorimetry. The binding ratio of a unit molecule of EPO with L100-55 was found to range between 1:2.75 (Z = 0.36) and 1:0.55 (Z = 1.81) while increasing the pH value from 5.5 to 7.0. As a result of electrostatic interaction between the copolymer chains, the glass transition temperature of the IPEC increased significantly. A large pH-sensitive swelling behavior was observed for different structures of the IPECs. The outcome of swelling and diclofenac sodium release from the polycomplex matrices confirm that they have great potential to be used as a controlled DDS in specified regions of gastrointestinal tract. © 2010 Wiley-Liss, Inc. and the American Pharmacists Association

All rights reserved. The relevance of the research problem is reasoned by global use of Internet technologies, altering the forms of personal self-identification: Atransition of the external world and human individuality in a digital code, the creation of informational imprint in space of the worldwide web, the alienation of the student youth in society, the substitution of reality by virtual world. In this direction a significant potential belongs to humanities, studying of which contributes to the interpenetration and mutual reinforcement of students’ social and virtual identification based on universal norms, values, value orientations, correction of virtual identity redundancy in real society. This article is aimed at scientifically-methodical substantiation of structure and content of pedagogical correction of higher school students’ self-identification in the process of humanities’ study. The leading method in this problem study is a method of modeling of the structure and content of students’ self-identification pedagogical correction in the process of humanitarian disciplines’ study. The article presents the theoretical and methodological foundations of the design and implementation of student’s social and virtual identity correction’s model, its discursive content and mechanisms, structure and new forms’ content in the process of humanities’ study. The presented materials in the article contribute to evidence-based correction of students virtual and social identity in the process of humanities’ study and are recommended to use for teachers, methodologists, university information departments’ programmers, improvement of qualification and teacher retraining courses’ attendants

Metal complex catalysis, allowing modification of molecules with atomic precision, leads to a significant saving of resources and by-products decrease and, therefore, completely corresponds to several principles of “green chemistry”. However, it should be worth considering that homogeneous metal complex catalysts can be used only once. Taking into account the high cost of noble metals, the use of homogeneous catalysts becomes a very expensive procedure, especially in industrial scale. The author s gratefully acknowledge of the RSF (19-13-00095) and RFBR (19-03-00519) for the financial support
