Ceramic composite protection for turbine disc bursts
Ceramic composite turbine disc protection panels for the A300B were developed using armor technology. Analytical predictions for modifying the ballistic projectile armor system were verified by a test program conducted to qualify the rotor containment system. With only a slight change in the areal density of the armor system a more than two-fold increase in kinetic energy protection level was achieved. Thickness of the fiberglass reinforced plastic backing material was increased to achieve an optimum ratio of ceramic thickness to backing thickness for the different ballistic defeat condition
Professional wellbeing
The aim of this chapter is to review issues relating to wellbeing and stress that may affect psychologists. It will discuss the causes of stress and wellbeing and the outcomes for psychologists, then set out some realistic ways in which stress can be managed and wellbeing can be supported
Switchable filtering in vivaldi antenna
Presented is a new frequency switchable Vivaldi antenna that has a capability to operate in a wideband mode (1-3 GHz) and reconfigure to six different subbands of operations. The reconfiguration is realised by coupling and changing the effective electrical length of ring slots inserted in the structure by means of pin diode switches. To examine antenna performances, simulated and measured results are presented. Good impedance matches and radiation patterns have been achieved. The proposed antenna is suitable for wideband and multimode radio applications
Symmetrization in Geometry
The concept of an -symmetrization is introduced, which provides a
convenient framework for most of the familiar symmetrization processes on
convex sets. Various properties of -symmetrizations are introduced and the
relations between them investigated. New expressions are provided for the
Steiner and Minkowski symmetrals of a compact convex set which exhibit a dual
relationship between them. Characterizations of Steiner, Minkowski and central
symmetrization, in terms of natural properties that they enjoy, are given and
examples are provided to show that none of the assumptions made can be dropped
or significantly weakened. Other familiar symmetrizations, such as Schwarz
symmetrization, are discussed and several new ones introduced.Comment: A chacterization of central symmetrization has been added and several
typos have been corrected. This version has been accepted for publication on

Interior noise prediction methodology: ATDAC theory and validation
The Acoustical Theory for Design of Aircraft Cabins (ATDAC) is a computer program developed to predict interior noise levels inside aircraft and to evaluate the effects of different aircraft configurations on the aircraft acoustical environment. The primary motivation for development of this program is the special interior noise problems associated with advanced turboprop (ATP) aircraft where there is a tonal, low frequency noise problem. Prediction of interior noise levels requires knowledge of the energy sources, the transmission paths, and the relationship between the energy variable and the sound pressure level. The energy sources include engine noise, both airborne and structure-borne; turbulent boundary layer noise; and interior noise sources such as air conditioner noise and auxiliary power unit noise. Since propeller and engine noise prediction programs are widely available, they are not included in ATDAC. Airborne engine noise from any prediction or measurement may be input to this program. This report describes the theory and equations implemented in the ATDAC program
