Kahler potentials for the MSSM inflation and the spectral index

Recently it has been argued that some of the fine-tuning problems of the MSSM inflation associated with the existence of a saddle point along a flat direction may be solved naturally in a class of supergravity models. Here we extend the analysis and show that the constraints on the Kahler potentials in these models are considerably relaxed when the location of the saddle point is treated as a free variable. We also examine the effect of supergravity corrections on inflationary predictions and find that they can slightly alter the value of the spectral index. As an example, for flat direction field values ϕˉ0=1×104MP|\bar{\phi}_0|=1\times10^{-4}M_P we find n0.92...0.94n\sim0.92 ... 0.94 while the prediction of the MSSM inflation without any corrections is n0.92n\sim0.92.Comment: 13 pages, one figure. Descritores epidérmicos de cyperaceae forrageiras - guia para identificação da dieta de herbívoros usando o programa Delta.

    Get PDF

Influence of age, gender and obesity on pressure discomfort threshold of the foot: A cross-sectional study

[EN] Background: Foot pain is a highly prevalent health problem for which measures such as a pattern of Pressure Discomfort Threshold of the foot plantar surface can provide valuable information for orthosis design. This study aimed to describe such pattern as a tool for the assessment of painful conditions of the feet and to analyse how it modifies according to age, gender and obesity. Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed with participants allocated in: Group 1 people aged 20 to 35 years, Group 2 aged 50 to 65 years and Group 3 aged over 65. Pressure Discomfort Threshold on twelve points of the foot plantar surface was measured with an adapted manual dynamometer. Inferential analyses of the data were performed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) considering foot areas, age group, gender and obesity. Findings: 36 participants were analysed. The pattern of Pressure Discomfort Threshold for all individuals showed a significantly higher threshold on the heel and external foot (P < 0.001, eta(2) = 0.124) and was statistical significantly influenced by age (P < 0.001, eta(2) = 0.17), especially in participants aged over 65; by gender, with women having higher values (P < 0.001, eta(2) = 0.13), and by obesity (P < 0.001, eta(2) = 0.19). Interpretation: A Pressure Discomfort Threshold pattern exists in the foot plantar surface. The characteristics of the discomfort pattern of the foot and its association with aging, gender and obesity may have considerable implications for orthosis and footwear design.Dueñas, L.; Arnal-Gómez, A.; Aparicio, I.; Balasch-Bernat, M.; López-Bueno, L.; Gonzalez Garcia, JC.; Solves Camallonga, C.... On the Optimum Long Baseline for the Next Generation Neutrino Oscillation Experiments

For high energy long baseline neutrino oscillation experiments, we propose a Figure of Merit criterion to compare the statistical quality of experiments at various oscillation distances under the condition of identical detectors and a given neutrino beam. We take into account all possible experimental errors under general consideration. In this way the Figure of Merit is closely related to the usual statistical criterion of number of sigmas. We use a realistic neutrino beam for an entry level neutrino factory and a possible superbeam from a meson source and a 100 kt detector for the calculation. We considered in detail four oscillation distances, 300 km, 700 km, 2100 km and 3000 km, in the neutrino energy range of 0.5-20 GeV for a 20 GeV entry level neutrino factory and a 50 GeV superbeam. We found that the very long baselines of 2100 km and 3000 km are preferred for the neutrino factory according to the figure of merit criterion. Our results also show that, for a neutrino factory, lower primary muon energies such as 20 GeV are preferred rather than higher ones such as 30 or 50 GeV. For the superbeam, the combination of a long baseline such as 300 km and a very long baseline like 2100 km will form a complete measurement of the oscillation parameters besides the CP phase. To measure the CP phase in a superbeam, a larger detector (a factor 3 beyond what is considered in this article) and/or a higher intensity beam will be needed to put some significant constraints on the size of the CP angle.Comment: 21 LaTeX pages, 13 PS figures, typos corrected, references adde

Effects of new physics in neutrino oscillations in matter

    Get PDF
A new flavor changing electron neutrino interaction with matter would always dominate the nu_e oscillation probability at sufficiently high neutrino energies. Being suppressed by theta_{13}, the energy scale at which the new effect starts to be relevant may be within the reach of realistic experiments, where the peculiar dependence of the signal with energy could give rise to a clear signature in the nu_e --> nu_tau channel. The latter could be observed by means of a coarse large magnetized detector by exploiting tau --> mu decays. We discuss the possibility of identifying or constraining such effects with a high energy neutrino factory. We also comment on the model independent limits on them.Comment: 11 pages, 5 figure

Advances on the automatic estimation of the P-wave onset time.

This work describes the automatic picking of the P-phase arrivals of the 3*10^6 seismic registers originated during the TOMO-ETNA experiment. Air-gun shots produced by the vessel “Sarmiento de Gamboa” and contemporary passive seismicity occurring in the island are recorded by a dense network of stations deployed for the experiment. In such scenario, automatic processing is needed given: (i) the enormous amount of data, (ii) the low signal-to-noise ratio of many of the available registers and, (iii) the accuracy needed for the velocity tomography resulting from the experiment. A preliminary processing is performed with the records obtained from all stations. Raw data formats from the different types of stations are unified, eliminating defective records and reducing noise through filtering in the band of interest for the phase picking. The advanced multiband picking algorithm (AMPA) is then used to process the big database obtained and determine the travel times of the seismic phases. The approach of AMPA, based on frequency multiband denoising and enhancement of expected arrivals through optimum detectors, is detailed together with its calibration and quality assessment procedure. Examples of its usage for active and passive seismic events are presented.PublishedS04342V. Dinamiche di unrest e scenari pre-eruttiviJCR Journalope
