Determinants of working capital management
This paper analyzes the determinants of working capital management (WCM) for a sample of Spanish firms during the period 1997-2004. We find that firms have a target investment in working capital and that they take decisions in order to achieve this. The results appear to support the hypothesis that the working capital competes with investment in fixed assets for the funds of the firms when they have financial constraints. Finally, we also find that WCM depends on bargaining power and other financial factors such as the availability of internal finance, cost of financing and financial constraints.Research Agency of the Spanish Government ECO2008-06179/ECO
There is plenty of literature analyzing the environmental management practices of firms, from a multisectorial perspective as well as a sectorial perspective. Nevertheless, very few studies have been carried out in the construction sector, probably because of the peculiarities of the industry and the subsequent singularities of the environmental management in building firms. In this context, this paper has a double aim: on one hand, to design a specific measurement scale on the environmental management practices of building firms, and on the other hand to analyze the implantation level of these practices in the Spanish building firms
There are a lot of agricultural products and foodstuffs with geographical designations of quality. These figures
were initially recognized in a national area and later at the Community level. In this article we check the
different geographical designations that exist at present, what they consist on and which can be found in Spain.
Later we study the geographical designations of Galician products applied to agricultural products and
foodstuffs, wine-sector products and spirits drinks and we analyze their representation, economic importance and
level of penetration in foreign markets, making a national comparison
Caracterización física y química de madera torrefactada de pino (Pinus patula)
Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina.
The influence of thermal treatment on physical properties and on the chemical composition of
Pinus patula wood was analyzed. The wood was obtained from single-use export pallets for the
shipment of paper reels. The test tubes were subjected to thermal treatment in the Pulp and
Paper Laboratory of La Molina National Agrarian University, where the evaluations of the
chemical properties were also carried out and the physical properties were carried out in the
Wood Technology laboratory. The effects of six heat treatments were evaluated, which
consisted of exposing the wood to temperatures of 180°C, 200°C and 220°C at times of 15 and
30 minutes. The tests were carried out to determine the physical properties: moisture content
test; test for determination of density, swelling test; measurement of color in wood using
CIELab methodology. The following chemical tests were also used: Determination of
extractables in wood, presence of lignin, presence of cellulose and the presence of
holocellulose. It turned out that the swelling and equilibrium moisture content in torrefied wood
will be lower than in untreated specimens. The color loses luminosity in wood subjected to heat
treatment. The basic density is influenced by time. The effects on the physical properties are
caused by the modification of the percentage value of the chemical components of the wood.
Cellulose presents a higher percentage value in roasted wood reaching 71.5%, this indicates
that the increase in temperature causes an increase in the crystalline index of cellulose.
Hemicellulose was the component with the lowest percentage value (5.08%) after roasting.
Lignin undergoes changes and tends to decrease as treatment intensity increases, achieving
minimum values of 25.72%. The extractives of the wood do not show significant variation after
the roasting treatment
criterios económico-financieros.The aim of this paper is to introduce a multicriteria methodology to calculate a ranking
for Spanish Saving Banks. The main shortcoming of most rankings is their unicriteria
nature, for they are obtained considering only one criterion. Our proposal employs goal
programming, to synthesize one multicriteria ranking for Savings Banks from different
financial criteria
Using a sample of 55 Spanish privatised firms in the period 1985-2003, we analyse whether the identity
of the main shareholder influences on post-privatisation firms’ performance. After controlling for possible
sample selection bias related to the government’s choice of firm method of privatisation, the results
suggest that when State is not the main shareholder an improvement in firms’ efficiency seems to take
place. In addition, the industry competitiveness seems to play an important role in the success of
privatisation as post-privatisation improvements take place in competitive sectors
State of the art of financial research in Mexico
The objective of this research is to present the state of research in the financial area, from the scholarly papers
presented at the three main forums which bring together much of the academic sector in Mexico Administrative
Sciences: Academy of Administrative Sciences , Research Forum FCA-UNAM and UAM Congress
Organizational Analysis, for a period of 5 years 2003 to 2007.
The findings help determine which was the extent of incipient financial investigation that has developed in
Mexico in comparison with the countries of Europe and the United States, the challenge for researchers in
Mexico is the development of themes such as: Personal Finance, Finance behavior and financial innovation, as
they have been little studied and contextualized issues in our environment
A proposal of an effective platelet-rich plasma protocol for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia
Background: Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has emerged as a promising treatment for androgenetic alopecia (AGA). In spite of the several studies previously reported, to date, a standardized protocol for PRP preparation and application, as well as a standard method for evaluating results has not been established. Aims: The aim of this study is to propose a standardized method for preparation and application of PRP for male AGA (MAGA) and female AGA (FAGA) and assess its safety and efficacy as a co-adjuvant therapy. Materials and Methods: Seventy-eight patients, 19 men and 59 women with AGA Grades II-IV in Ebling's scale, currently on treatment with topical minoxidil and/or oral finasteride for more than a year without improvement, were included in this study. PRP was prepared using a single spin method, and injected in affected areas for 3 monthly sessions, followed by 3 bimonthly sessions. A decrease of at least one grade in Ebling's scale was considered a successful result. Results: After the 6° session, 71.4% of MAGA and 73.4% of FAGA patients reached a successful outcome while 21.4% and 16.3%, respectively, remained without changes. Only 7.1% of MAGA and 10.2% of FAGA presented worsening of their condition. Conclusions: PRP together with a periodical application protocol can be considered effective as a coadjuvant therapy in patients who no longer respond to pharmacological treatments. Ebling's scale was a practical and reliable parameter to allow a better evaluation in both MAGA and FAGA
