Pressure Dependence of Wall Relaxation in Polarized He Gaseous Cells
We have observed a linear pressure dependence of longitudinal relaxation time
() at 4.2 K and 295 K in gaseous He cells made of either bare pyrex
glass or Cs/Rb-coated pyrex due to paramagnetic sites in the cell wall. The
paramagnetic wall relaxation is previously thought to be independent of He
pressure. We develop a model to interpret the observed wall relaxation by
taking into account the diffusion process, and our model gives a good
description of the data

Integration of TGF-β-induced Smad signaling in the insulin-induced transcriptional response in endothelial cells.
Insulin signaling governs many processes including glucose homeostasis and metabolism, and is therapeutically used to treat hyperglycemia in diabetes. We demonstrated that insulin-induced Akt activation enhances the sensitivity to TGF-β by directing an increase in cell surface TGF-β receptors from a pool of intracellular TGF-β receptors. Consequently, increased autocrine TGF-β signaling in response to insulin participates in insulin-induced angiogenic responses of endothelial cells. With TGF-β signaling controlling many cell responses, including differentiation and extracellular matrix deposition, and pathologically promoting fibrosis and cancer cell dissemination, we addressed to which extent autocrine TGF-β signaling participates in insulin-induced gene responses of human endothelial cells. Transcriptome analyses of the insulin response, in the absence or presence of a TGF-β receptor kinase inhibitor, revealed substantial positive and negative contributions of autocrine TGF-β signaling in insulin-responsive gene responses. Furthermore, insulin-induced responses of many genes depended on or resulted from autocrine TGF-β signaling. Our analyses also highlight extensive contributions of autocrine TGF-β signaling to basal gene expression in the absence of insulin, and identified many novel TGF-β-responsive genes. This data resource may aid in the appreciation of the roles of autocrine TGF-β signaling in normal physiological responses to insulin, and implications of therapeutic insulin usage
Effect of disorder with long-range correlation on transport in graphene nanoribbon
Transport in disordered armchair graphene nanoribbons (AGR) with long-range
correlation between quantum wire contact is investigated by transfer matrix
combined with Landauer's formula. Metal-insulator transition is induced by
disorder in neutral AGR. Thereinto, the conductance is one conductance quantum
for metallic phase and exponentially decays otherwise when the length of AGR is
infinity and far longer than its width. Similar to the case of long-range
disorder, the conductance of neutral AGR first increases and then decreases
while the conductance of doped AGR monotonically decreases, as the disorder
strength increases. In the presence of strong disorder, the conductivity
depends monotonically and non-monotonically on the aspect ratio for heavily

Average distance in a hierarchical scale-free network: an exact solution
Various real systems simultaneously exhibit scale-free and hierarchical
structure. In this paper, we study analytically average distance in a
deterministic scale-free network with hierarchical organization. Using a
recursive method based on the network construction, we determine explicitly the
average distance, obtaining an exact expression for it, which is confirmed by
extensive numerical calculations. The obtained rigorous solution shows that the
average distance grows logarithmically with the network order (number of nodes
in the network). We exhibit the similarity and dissimilarity in average
distance between the network under consideration and some previously studied
networks, including random networks and other deterministic networks. On the
basis of the comparison, we argue that the logarithmic scaling of average
distance with network order could be a generic feature of deterministic
